He's on the D+C show right now.

They asked him about that report awhile back about him wanting to come back, and he said that was a joke on the Felger show. He said the whole "I'll come back if I get a raise" thing was sarcastic, and that there was "no way in hell" he was coming back.

But can we really believe this? He sure didn't sound like he was joking when he said it.

Sounds like damage control, heard it the first time he said it, did not sound then like he was kidding.

I don't believe the guy. He's agenda driven and seems to be working out personal demons. Lots of remarks like the Pats are one of a few teams that don't do neurological exams, etc. D&C and the Globe thrive on any anti-Pats controversy. That's not to say that the Patriots should not re-examine their medical approach to concussions in light of current data.

I thought he was "trying" to be funny during the original Felger interview. He has made a lot of mistakes and his life is a mess, he is most accountable but there are also significant systematic issues that contributed.

Everybody knows he is an idiot,I don't believe him

Yes. The guy needs help and someone should tell him to look for it someplace else than on talk radio. I am still very sympathetic to his situation and that of many other players, but I'm losing my emphathy with him personally.

I understand he's trying to get his point across, but why is there a need to bring Belichick's name into it? He could have gotten his point across a thousand different ways without mentioning Belichick.

Evidently he believes Belichick is, in part, responsible.

BB has been noted to value toughness. What would be a logical error associated with that value, assuming BB can, in fact, make errors? Possibly, being too tough. Creating an expectation that a player will play through injuries they should not play through.

It is also possible this is Ted Johnson's perception, but I do not think he runs around smearing his coach for no reason whatsoever. For a deluded reason? For a drug-magnified reason? Maybe. I wasn't there. If he's addicted to amphetimines, they do have a side effect of paranoia. And anyone who's ever attributed motives and thoughts to a bass that were not there, knows that communication is different from assumed communication. If he thought BB wanted him to play with a concussion, that's different from BB being caught red-handed.

But in terms of your question, why not bring the coach into it, if you believe he should take some of the responsibility? The real question is whether the coach, in this circumstance, is in fact ultimately responsible.

Is his motive to spread awareness, or to find out who is responsible? Or by an extension to place blame? I just don't see the need to bring down the reputation of the coach, particularly when TJ knows full well that all coaches are like that.

Did D+C try to get him to say anything about Belichick being a jerk? It seems like their goal is to drive BB out of town.

Given the frequency that the team uses the IR, this team kills its players, has the worst training staff in the world, or errs on the side of caution. Since I've never heard anything but good things said about the staff itself, that knocks it down to 2 choices.

Now, does putting people on IR at the drop of a hat mean that this team is just crushing these guys to get them hurt at such a rate, or does it mean that they use their depth as a way to augment a precautionary style of dealing with injuries?

I realize that the 4th option of "Just crap luck" exists as well.....

It means they suffer freak injuries a la Barry Gardner or Rodney Harrison. Teams are aggressive against the Pats. The Pats are aggressive back.

I hate to be a cynical Ba$tard but to me this whole thing stinks of a massive lawsuit on the horizon. Ted is probably lawyered up the ***** and this whole media thing is just the first salvo in terms of laying the ground work for a huge litigation.
Ted was a good player who had the right to not play. If I think an employer is jeopardizing my health, I'm not going to work for him. And I don't have the benefit of a first round draft pick contract behind me as security.
Personal responsibility is non existent in the US and Canada these days. Everything is someone elses fault.
ENOUGH!!!

They were talking about some interview/story coming out on a 10-year NFL safety who "we all will know." Ted said that this safety can't even recite the months of the year.

Steve Atwater, maybe?

The Patriots are near the top of the league every year in man games lost due to injury. No way he HAD to play. Why are there so many players not playing if Belichick is such a meanie.

Very good point, that a lot of Pats could go to the IR, because the Pats won't put them in harm's way (rather than that the Pats just murderlize their players.)

Also, the cynical point is taken too, that TJ is laying the groundwork for a colossal lawsuit. We'll see.

As to the call for personal responsibility, it's fine in the abstract, but when you're the guy, it might look a little different. Of course, you most often see the public face of some not-really-injured punk suing a company or a celebrity for fictitious reasons, because it makes the best news story. But there are also perfectly just uses for the justice system. They're just not sexy. Honestly, I do not believe myself to have enough facts to support or gainsay TJ's claims, other than that it seems to revolve around his perception, not BB's explicit actions/statements, which is a weak point from which to start a civic action (not that it matters sometimes.) The juicy target would be the Pats themselves, or the Krafts, not Belichick.
