Cap Update

Anyone have a decent cap update with the new signings? I realize it's alot of speculation but I am beginning to worry about what we have left to go after the likes of talib, abraham, freeney, sanders. Obviously some of these are more important than others but we must be getting close to that cap number.

Until we have solid numbers, it's hard to say where the team is at.

Other than Talib with his 1yr/$5M contract, the others have signing bonuses and guaranteed money that make things harder to decipher.

My guess is that the Pats still have better than 13M in cap space.

Wee need to see where we are with Lloyd by day's end.

We still got plenty of room for rookies, Emmanuel, and one of the old pass rushers. We can make back decent $ too I think with the following:

-Lloyd cut (3mil?)
-Gregory cut (1mil) If we trust Tavon and Ebner to be the backups in their 2nd years.
-Fells (1mil) Gronk, Hernandez, Ballard, Hooman.

Lets say Vollmer get $5/year.......who would have imagined the Pats could have filled slot WR, CB (Talib's position) and RT for a '13 cap hit of 13.7 mill. I would have guessed $22 mill to resign WW, AT, and SB.

The patriots passed one procedural hurdle. They know can now go to the next step. If they win there, the team will get monies from Fanene. THEN, the league will decide whether there is any cap relief. Obviously, there could be appeals of any definitive action.

I think if the Pats prevail on Fanene, it's a given they'll get cap "relief."

I know that for every FA signed at above vet-min levels, another player is knocked off the top 51. So you can add about $2m in cap room for that.

According to multiple reports, the Patriots have won an appeal that allows them the right to challenge the $2.5 million they paid as part of a signing bonus to defensive lineman Jonathan Fanene.

Fanene, who was signed as a free agent last season, had health issues throughout the summer and struggled to stay on the field. He was released during training camp under the recently instituted “failure to disclose a physical condition” designation, and did not play at all in 2012. It remains to be seen if the Patriots will be able to apply that toward available cap space.

two seventh rounders at about $400k a piece ($800k)
