Anyone have a decent cap update with the new signings? I realize it's alot of speculation but I am beginning to worry about what we have left to go after the likes of talib, abraham, freeney, sanders. Obviously some of these are more important than others but we must be getting close to that cap number.

Any guess on how much Cap Space is left?

So we just got Talib at 1 yr 5mil, right?

Where does that leave the team in regards to cap space?

Until we have solid numbers, it's hard to say where the team is at.

Other than Talib with his 1yr/$5M contract, the others have signing bonuses and guaranteed money that make things harder to decipher.

My guess is that the Pats still have better than 13M in cap space.

I agree.

Wee need to see where we are with Lloyd by day's end.

We still got plenty of room for rookies, Emmanuel, and one of the old pass rushers. We can make back decent $ too I think with the following:

-Lloyd cut (3mil?)
-Gregory cut (1mil) If we trust Tavon and Ebner to be the backups in their 2nd years.
-Fells (1mil) Gronk, Hernandez, Ballard, Hooman.

My guess is that they have around the 12 to 18 million depending on how they ...spread out the signing bonuses.......

Didn't we have 25m to start?

They got 2m+ back in the signing bonus
For the hurt DL last year. Not sure how much
Of a savings that is for 2013.

Amendola 3.5m cap number in 2013.
Talib 5m in 2013

Not sure of the Wilson or Arrington CAP
Hit in 2013.

My guess we have 10-12m left & that
Could increase if Loyd is cut.

I hope Arrington's contract is backloaded.....when the cap expands....

We have gotten ZERO cap relief from the Fanene proceedings.

Amendola is 3.7 as it stands ( 2 salary, 1.2 bonus, .5 roster=3.7)
Washington will be 1.5 if makes team
Arrington unknown but max should be 4
Talib is 5
Wilson ???
Jones ???
So at no more than 14.2 with two complete unknows and no RT signed

Lets say Vollmer get $5/year.......who would have imagined the Pats could have filled slot WR, CB (Talib's position) and RT for a '13 cap hit of 13.7 mill. I would have guessed $22 mill to resign WW, AT, and SB.

It was posted a few days ago that we got 2.5mill back. Was that not correct?

I estimate the signings list above, plus Niko have a total net cap hiot of 15-16mill.

I believe the ruling was NE was now allowed to go after the money. Very fuzzy for sure

The patriots passed one procedural hurdle. They know can now go to the next step. If they win there, the team will get monies from Fanene. THEN, the league will decide whether there is any cap relief. Obviously, there could be appeals of any definitive action.

Wilfork an Mankins could (maybe) re-structure still, along with what AJ said.

I'm starting to wonder if we'll have Cap space for next year, we need to consider that as well. I imagine these contracts accelerate next year (or maybe not) (plus DMac, Spikes, Talib are next year).

We need money next year. We also need Vollmer this year.

I think if the Pats prevail on Fanene, it's a given they'll get cap "relief."

I know that for every FA signed at above vet-min levels, another player is knocked off the top 51. So you can add about $2m in cap room for that.

Regarding Fanene, his bonus, and that cap space:

Patriots can go after Jonathan Fanene's bonus - Extra Points - Boston.com
The collective bargaining appeals panel has allowed the NFL Management Council, on behalf of the Patriots, to proceed with an attempt to recoup "some or all" of the $3.85 million signing bonus that they gave Jonathan Fanene last March, according to documents obtained from a league source.

No date has been set for the hearing.

Ruling opens door for Patriots to recoup $2.5 million from Fanene - CBSSports.com-
According to documents obtained by NFL.com, the panel ruled that Fanene made "inaccurate and incomplete disclosures of his medical condition," specifically, that he failed to "disclose his regular use and need for painkilling medication to practice and play."

The ruling moves the Patriots one step closer to recouping the $2.5 million in bonus money they gave to Fanene when he signed with the team in March 2012.

The next step in the process is a "merits hearing." If the Patriots are successful there, it will allow the team to possibly "recover some or all of the signing bonus paid to the player as a remedy for the player having made material misrepresentations in the course of negotiating the player contract," senior vice president of labor litigation and policy Dennis Curran said.

It Is What It Is » Reports: Patriots eye possible return of bonus paid to Jonathan Fanene
According to multiple reports, the Patriots have won an appeal that allows them the right to challenge the $2.5 million they paid as part of a signing bonus to defensive lineman Jonathan Fanene.

Fanene, who was signed as a free agent last season, had health issues throughout the summer and struggled to stay on the field. He was released during training camp under the recently instituted “failure to disclose a physical condition” designation, and did not play at all in 2012. It remains to be seen if the Patriots will be able to apply that toward available cap space.

We still got plenty of room for rookies,

They'll be spending $3-3.5 million max on rookies

first rounder will get about $1.2-1.4mill
second rounder will get about $750k
third rounder (if Sanders doesn't come) about $550k
two seventh rounders at about $400k a piece ($800k)

$3.3-$3.5 million at the most.

$2M of this is already in the cap, in the players that the draftee will replace.
