C) We should see some action at corner. At least that what Erika tells us.

D) We might know whether we have signed an agreement with Sanders.

UNBELIEVABLY, almost all our most serious goals of free agents EXCEPT RIGHT TACKLE will have been addressed. Perhaps, WR may not be quite solved.

Obviously, there will more to do. However, we will still be addressing backups and camp competition at lots of positions, certainly including OL, DB and WR.

I think they sign abraham tomorrow and get a deal done with talib by sunday. And we may hear of an offer sheet for sanders..but who knows

One bit of rationalization that I think also has merit is that we've had fairly good luck with street FAs and the difference between drafting in rounds 6 and 7 (maybe 5, too?) and inking guys off the street have not been all that stark lately for BB.

Adrian Wilson isn't Ed Reed, but Wilson is more of a need. Not as flashy, I still like it even if I might prefer 2 FS in todays NFL.

Danny Amendola isn't Wes Welker, never will be, but he signed for less than we thought and he has the "potential" label.

Donald Jones is another "potential" kind of guy, should be cheap. Might spell Edelman's end? I'd prefer Edelman, really. (might be 100% unrelated, but the WR activity is making me doubt Edelmans return)

Leon Washington, a top kick returner in the NFL, I'd certainly take a designated role player here over one of our best defenders.

Arrington, signed for more than we all expected, however, a slot corner is an extremely important position in the NFL these days and Arrington was actually one of the top performers in the league at this position. Your 3rd corner is now officially a starting corner these days. They WILL begin being paid like it.

I love all 3 so far, Abraham will boost our pass rush as a proven vet, a mentor to the young guys, and as a rotation, one of the things that kept the Giant's pass rush so fierce for so long was a solid rotation.

Sanders had a decent season in a new offensive system playing as a 4th target, stuck behind Wallace, Brown, and Miller. A 3rd rounder matches his production IMO. I'll take it as long as the contract isn't stupid.

I think most of us want Talib back, not only is he an above average corner, he's a play maker. You don't often get both. A contract protecting us from off-field issues and injury will be a great pickup for us. McCourty/A.Wilson - Talib/Dennard/Arrington. Not a bad starting secondary. A nice mix of talented coverage guys and physicality. Not much change from late last season but it will give guys some continuity which seems to be underrated at times.

If we can sign all 3 of the rumored guys, use the rest of the "big" money to sign either Vollmer to shore up the line or Dumervil to further boost the pass rush I'd call it one of the best offseasons in recent memory. And this is before the draft has even happened. This draft can become about depth and not expecting any impact starter right away.

Lets assume for data sake that we will sign Sanders and Abraham. And assume if we miss they will sign another WR and Pass Rusher. Also that Talib will be back.

That leaves us having spent on DA, Jones, Sanders, Washington, A Wilson, and Abraham.

I am not the strongest cap guy and all the numbers cant be known yet are some arent even more than rumors but I think we easily spent 10-15 Mil on first year cap hits on those guys right leaving 10 Mil or so left not counting an additional restructures that may or may not happen.


My opinion is that if there is still someone specific you want you can go get him now but it might not be to bad an idea to save a little turn your attention to the draft and A) wait and see what we get there to see what holes are left and B) save a little for some inevitable cuts from other teams.

You left out Arrington, who should be around $3 million.

Looking at all our needs and how fast the money is going, and I don't feel as bad about Welker. We saved 2.2 million, which isn't a ton, but we need it. Brady really saved this team.

Let's look at the arithmetic. We had $24.9 to start per Jason and others. Miguel is $900K below this but I'm sure all will be synched soon.

Amendola is $3.5M. Call it ten million so far, including Arrington.

So we have fourteen to fifteen million left. After Lloyd restructures, we will have more cap room.

We need a couple of million for JAGs. These are guys a bit over the vet minimum. They have little cap effect, but they add up. We need not worry about the rookies and late season costs. A restructure of Mankins will take care of that. Also, I have not included Hooman since either he or Fells will be cut in camp, or earlier if the cap money is needed.

Is this you agreeing to yes we have about ten million after what was said? Or you just saying thats what you would do with the 10 mil left that I assumed?


Also I had accounted for Talib (or a like CB) in my book keeping that spent the 15 Mil. Again I dont pretend to be a cap genius but first year hits as shown by what Amendola gets dont have to be big I think the moves so far with the assumption that the rumored moves are either true or a different like player will take the money if we miss on some of the guys being rumored.

I guess maybe I will do some math and see what I come up with.

DA - We know this to be 3.5
Washington - We know this to be 1.5
Jones - I havent checked to really see what this is but I assume a lot less than 3.5 - I am going to call it 1-2mil
Sanders - this is just rumor but to make it tough for the Steelers to match the first year money would need to be good - 6-8mil?
Abraham - my guess 4 mil
Arrington - looked like 4 mil by early numbers
A Wilson - not sure didnt look close enough to see this either but 2-4 sounds right

These are first year hits and some get absorbed by rule of 52 by bumping other guys down. not knowing exactly what bumps I got 22-27 spent above I hope some of my numbers are high then because I spent way more than 15.

What did I miss? Feel free to fix my numbers or change any assumptions?

Edit whoops - I dont have Talib on here either I would guess at least 4 mil too. so now my spending is 26-31 but I am sure I am a little high in more ways than one.

I think about 9 mill left. if we give away our 3rd for sanders...that's less money for a rookie and only what 4 picks? 2.5 mill may cover all of the picks. We can still sign talib, abraham sanders and freeney and another CB if needed.

And if we drop lloyd we save $3 mill so there is all the draft guys $$
