(I am 100% serious in this thread fyi)
Leave the Behavior commnents out of this thread, because he hasn't ever played on the pats, he hates where he is now and we don't know whether he'd be like Dillon or not so save it.

I was reading this nfl.com article about the Raiders possibly trading Moss http://nfl.com/news/story/9988414
(it says nothing about the pats)

I was wondering if it's a possilbity.. It would cost less than a first obviously, and if we could re-structure his contract (i think we could do that  ) it's an option.

What would it cost?? a 2nd rounder?? maybe less?

I would like him here if he wasn't a problem.
We would no longer have to worry about receivers on this team for a while. Every single receiver would instantly improve if the pats got this guy.

I would rather see Jerry Porter,Not as much talent but not as much baggage either.

I expect it would take a 3rd rounder, maybe with a 4th or something to sweeten the pot (since our 3rd rounder is relatively late). I would DEFINITELY consider it, but I think it's very, VERY unlikely.

And as a public service announcement to those who may jump all over this thread - the question posed here is "any CHANCE we trade for Randy Moss?" In that context I'd say, Yes. There's a chance. But it's quite small.

but if you remove anything about his behavior like i mentioned in the original post, it seems like an obvious deal to make.

If they can somehow be assured that he'll pull a Corey Dillon and be cool about his role here then I would definitely do it.

Sign him up! Everyone thought CD was going to be a problem and he helped the team win the SB. We really need another big time playmaker on offense.

I think RM's "attitude" will change when he is playing for a winner. Other teams HAVE to account for him in their defensive game plan. Do you really think other teams are game planning for Caldwell and Gaffney??

Let's assume that we get Moss and he turns over a new leaf and plays with heart again.

If we don't improve the defense it still won't matter. Besides, Moss is very overrated. All he does in Oakland is run fly routes, which is the most simple of all pass routes.

exactly.

look how good Gaffney played with Reche Caldwell next to him.

IF he comes and isn't a problem (which obviously would be the case since the pats would never get him unless they were 99% sure), the receivers all improve on this team.
Every single one of them.

Maybe he wants a ring and maybe he grew up.
Maybe he's still a jerk, we don't really know but it would be nice if the pats did this.

well it could be argued that they don't use him right in Oakland.
Culpepper was not the reason he was sucessful in Minnesota.

And if we trade him that doesn't use up all our money,

can't they restructure his contract?

can't they sign players for defense also?

Keegs and I agree! Woo-hoo! I think, were we to do it that would signal that BB is comfortable with it, and that would be plenty good enough for me. Since we're likely only fantasizing here, it's worth noting that trading a 3rd or so for Randy Moss would take that need completely out of the draft picture, allowing the Pats FO to concentrate on DB/LB pretty much all day (one) long. That would be fantastic.

agreed...

This whole thread relies on the fact that if the Pats did get Moss, the whole "behavior" situation means nothing.

and as you said, if it's good enough for the pats it is obviously good enough for me.

and we'd still probably draft 2 tight ends but whatever i'm cool with that. I actually like it when they do it in a sick way b/c everyone gets pissed, i love tight ends, and i think it's funny.

First off, you can't take behavior out of the converstation. It's part of the player. If it weren't for those issues, the price would be several first round picks. Not to mention he probably would have been the 1st overall pick of his draft.
Second, you can't compare every headcase to Corey Dillon. Dillon played for a losing team (with a loser's attitude) that as a franchise refused to commit to winning for 8 years! That's very different than a guy who takes off plays, doesn't practice hard and refuses to lead his team mates. Corey was clear even when he was a problem that he wanted to win. Randy just wants the ball every play.
With that being said, we've never seen Moss in a strict environment. We have seen him, I think his first two years, under the leadership of a vet leader in Chris Carter. Either Carter covered up Randy's behavior or Randy took well to proper mentoring.
When Randy's head is in the game he's almost unstoppable. If BB wants him and can get him for less than a 2nd rounder I'd be thrilled with him.

Well, it seems that your premise is that we need help at WR. I disagree. Gaffney and Reche were good enough to get us to the AFCCG. If Chad Jackson dosesn't bust in 2007, we'll be even better. Moreover, there will be other opportunites to find rough diamonds at WR. I don't believe that this postion merits big money and high draft picks.

If your D can hold teams to under 20 ppg, you'll win at least 12 games. The Pats need LBs across the board and this year's FA and draft crops are abundant in affordable 3-4 DE hybrid talent. Plus re-signing Asante should be top proirity, since CB is weak in FA and the draft. A FS is also needed. Hawkins showed his age late in the season and got injured in the AFCCG.

Outside of quality depth, WR is not a problem with this team. Gaffney and Reche should get better in their 2nd years as Pats.

JMHO :)

I think Gabriel was that 1% that they did not notice as NOT being a team player which IMO was the reason for being cut prematurely..and guess what team where he came from..Yep-Da Raydaz!!

I don't know how you can leave behavior out of a conversation with Moss. Moss' behavior is nothing like Dillon's was in Cincy. Dillon was frustrated with his reduced role. Moss anounced he wasn't going to try because no one else was. Dillon always gave 100% even when he was a problem. Moss tends to take plays off even when he is happy.

Moss is not a Patriots type of WR. He doesn't run good routes. He doesn't run complicated routes. He takes plays off when the ball isn't going his way. He doesn't like to block.

I have serious doubts about how good Moss is anymore. He hasn't been an elite WR in four seasons. He has been injury prone in recent years.

I wouldn't invest more than a sixth rounder on Moss and only if he redid his contract. I don't think he can be the answers to our WR issues. I don't even think he can be an every down WR in our offense unless we revise the offense to be geared around him which is a huge risk since he hasn't been that good in the last three years.

LOL, it has become a little fun every year to be so surprised/disappointed/pi$$ed and then think, Well, whatever they do pretty much works, at least in terms of early picks. Seymour, Graham, Warren, Watson, Wilfork, Mankins, Maroney. It's gotten to the point where I would now HATE if they traded up with both #1's. It's far better, value-wise, to stick with both picks (or even trade one for future picks). And they STILL always, always, ALWAYS get impact players in round one.

While I agree with you that the "need" for WR is GROSSLY overblown by some of the hysterics on this board, buying low on Randy Moss would still be fantastic - IF Belichick believes he will not be disruptive. Presumably, at this point Randy wants to win and I think would take well to a veteran team. I think Chad's development, coupled with Gaffney and Caldwell's continued acclimation, will work out just fine for the offense. But there's pretty much NO WAY we can land a player in round 3 who would have more of an impact on this team than Randy Moss (if we get him for that compensation).

I think it's a fair question. If you believe that he would take some salary risk to have a shot at a ring and that we were just a couple of pieces away from getting the chance to beat the bears in the SB, then it's a matter of what it would cost, cap wise and pick wise, but they could probably structure an incentive-weighted contract and get away with maybe a third rounder.

I also thought it would not have been a bad idea last year, when he would have been more expensive. I checked his career stats back then and they were bigger time than I thought. He's 21st all time in receiving yards and fifth in TD's. Up until 04 he was top five in the league six years in a row in just about every major area.

IF the price to sign him was reasonable and IF what we had to give up was reasonable and IF his poor attitude was Kool Aid curable.....THEN......I would love to see him stretching defenses for Brady & Co. The guy is a true deep threat and i think would have plenty left in the tank to be a huge weapon for us.

Now, I really don't think any of my IF's would be acceptable or amenable to the player, but it is fun to dream a little.

I would not be at all surprised to see a big time impact signing of some type this off season. These things usually come right out of thin air (Who had a clue about Ted Washington, Cory Dillon or Colvin??

Bingo, could not agree more, there is a tendency to look for a quick fix for the receiving corps.. bottom line there is not much really wrong with what we have.. lots of people are enamored with the whole stretch the field thing, however this corps will do ok.

This is about he 450th thread on Moss since last off season. He does not change his attitude, his is what he is. TO won't change and neither will this guy .
