Who would you rather have? Welker or Amendola?

Edelman was given the starting role over Wes at the beginning of last year. Amendola is arguably a more explosive wr option than Jules. Both of whom have injury issues. Not bad insurance for each other at their unique wr roles for each other, much like we have tried to insure both aspects of gronkandez this year. The question is Lloyd or Jennings, and who is the deep threat. Heywordbey is intriguing based on deep speed alone. Don't get me wrong, I want nothing to do with him, however he would fit the moss type role of potentially demanding dedicated safety play. I think this would be better suited to a drafted player but haven't paid enough attention lately to give a name to target.

That said, bring back seabass, and pump money into the defensive secondary. An I the only one that thinks namdi would look great in the flying Elvis? Vet safety to "lead the kids" and a flyer late on a drafted db who fell.

Welker in a landslide. Better, more consistent, and more durable. I'm not going to get overly emotional about the move like some posters are doing, but it wasn't a good one. The team needs at least one more WR, hopefully in the big, physical, athletic mold.

This is my feeling. If people could get as consistently open as Welker, there'd be more guys like him in the league. There aren't.

But how many NFL QB's can make those passes and reads on underneath coverages? Brady, Manning and less than a handful more. It's not as easy as people think those are very congested tight spaces and bad passes result in pick sixes because OL and QB's are all that that stand in the way.

If other QB's could do it more teams would of been in play for Welker than Brady and Manning teams.

Welker by far.

Anyone trying to act like Amendola is some sort of good replacement is kidding themselves. The timing of Brady and Welker is impeccable and the best duo in the league from a chemistry standpoint which is huge in this offense.

The Patriots needed a wideout more then anything by far. That has held up this offense a lot in the last few years against top defenses in tight games. There hasn't been any real threat to stretch the field in years. Had they gotten Wallace and then signed Amendola then this wouldn't sting so bad, but they haven't addressed the wideout position for years other then those cheap bandaid attempts at getting Chad Johnson and Lloyd. Get a real freaking wideout for Brady already for god sakes. This method has already proven itself to fail.

BB shouldn't be given GM duties and I've wanted that to happen for a few years now. The guy hasn't been able to fix that defense to save his life, and he gets all this credit for the team's wins over the last few years, but it's been at the hands of the offense which is mainly due to having Tom Brady who is probably the best QB of all time. The Patriots need a GM that won't be some "yes man" to BB. That's what they need more then any free agent right now. Get a guy who can actually make a top defensive unit and a guy that understands what a really good wideout could do for this offense.

Do you just go thread to thread cutting and pasting the same thing?
Why wouldn't you post on your teams board instead of coming the one of the team that blew you out twice this year to criticize a better organization?

And Manning has never had a Welker kind of player either, so him using Welker properly is no guarantee.

I said Amendola this time last year so I'll stick with that.

Just got a feeling the kid will be a star.

Very true.. Either way the only constant in life is change and this is one for Wes and the Patriots

If BB ever has a losing season with the Patriots you can repost this and you might get a few likes but till then you sound silly. Your terrible GM drafted your best QB all time in the 6th round has been 5 SB and with .600 win percentage in them.

My question is, which player is in the better situation to succeed. Welker having Manning throwing to him or Amendola having Brady throwing to him? My answer is Welker. He's better than Brandon Stokley. Conversely, would Amendola split time with a re-signed Julian Edelman? Imagine that, you would need a third slot wide receiver to backup both of those players. Brandon Stokley? Austin Collie? Markus Wheaton?

Welker! No question about it!

Amendola's signing bonus...

I wish they kept Welker. His quality of play and chemistry with Brady is a known quantity. There's no guarantee that Amendola will fit into this offense. He could do very well in the offense, but now you're taking an unneeded risk. Brady's window is closing and I rather not have the team gamble with another new part when you released a pretty damn good part.

We'll have to see how well Amendola grasps the offense this coming fall and if he can interpret coverages anywhere near the level that Welker did. Welker was very rarely fooled.

It is not a question of whether or not Amendola will grasp the offense as well as Welker did; that will never happen.

The question is if he will grasp it well enough to cover up adequately what we will lose with Welker's departure.

3 Ram players now are all McDaniels
Plus Greg Salas last year. And Lloyd

Not to mention Maroney, Jackson, and O'Connell

I trust that BB and co. have done their homework. I yearn for the years where we won SB's due to clutch performances in big games. Brady rec'd much of the credit in those years and rightfully so but one aspect that never gets mentioned was how clutch our receivers were back then. Our receiving core back then, while less productive overall, rarely dropped passes and never in big spots. Troy Brown, Deion Branch, David Givens, David Patten....these guys were all tremendously clutch and collectively contributed to Brady being clutch.

Welker's drops frustrated me and I'm not talking about the one in the SB which wasn't his fault. That was a difficult ball. I'm talking about the 1,2, or 3 drops he'd have just about every game that would bounce of his hands or chest. Welker's reputation as a sure handed receiver has always been overstated.

We need WR's who elevate their games in big spots. Is that Amendola? I don't know. But in six years with Welker, this team transformed from one who would steal victories out of nowhere into one who would frequently give them away instead. Is that all Welker's fault? Of course not. Not at all but perhaps it is time to move in another direction.

Wes, I appreciate all you've given to this franchise and wish you the best of luck. But I'm no less excited by our prospects moving forward now than I was 48 hours ago. We'll be just fine. BB and co. will make sure of it.

If it's who would I rather have (to help us win a SB next year) then the answer is very easy ..... WW in a landslide.

In fact, I highly doubt that Amendola would even register on my wish list of 30 receivers that I'd like to see in place of Welker if confronted with the choice.

uh...maybe it's a bit early but...there are a number of high grade receivers in this draft with breakaway speed...the Pats could be planning a revamp of the offensive set, the setr that was shut out in the 2nd half at home in their last playoff game...perhaps they are looking for half of Welker's slot production and the other half being made up on the outside...I mean, we haven't even SEEN the 53 man roster they are going to start the season with...I don't see how you can answer the OP's question right now.

I'd rather have a DE or OLB that can get to the QB ... that's what I really want.:mad::mad:

EXACTLY! We think alike, J. I see Amendola as more or less Branch's replacement. I expect Edelman to be re-signed and that he/Ahern will share the slot/inside stuff. Gronk stretches the seam. We should be seeing a speedster at No. 1 for a change, hopefully.

Agreed....We definitely need someone to stretch the field.
