Who would you rather have? Welker or Amendola?

So I think it's obvious welker was let go for money reasons. Regardless of how you feel about that who would you rather have?

Welker over the next two years or Danny vs the next 5?

Personally welker over the next two years seems the obvious choice, I don't see a scenario baring a injury how he doesn't give you the 200 catches the next two seasons.

I don't care how old he is he hasn't had injury concerns and any argument using that is moot considering who they brought in to replace his production. Thoughts?

I suppose that's a legit point. I can't blame welker for bein angry but it's hard to imagine that giving an option at 2 years/12 or was t 14? That he wouldn't choose the pats even given how they treated him.

Not to mention giving Danny equal money. I'm not sure why they thought that was worthy of their money. He hasn't performed up to welkers numbers and there isn't any guarantee he will. Yet he's gonna be paid as if he is

Welker and it's not even close. Besides being made of glass Amendola (who has played 11 games over the last two years) isn't anywhere near as good as Welker. Very upsetting day.

Welker in a landslide. Better, more consistent, and more durable. I'm not going to get overly emotional about the move like some posters are doing, but it wasn't a good one. The team needs at least one more WR, hopefully in the big, physical, athletic mold.

I'd choose Welker since I feel we are in position to compete for a SB for the next 2-3 years and I believe he has at least 2 more great seasons in him. Plus us not having Welker also means a team like Denver and Peyton Manning has him.

I don't feel disappointed to the extent of alot of the guys bashing the FO, because there is a chance Amendola makes the offense a bit more dynamic and is a longer term solution. Right now though I think Welker is the safer option and I feel he should've been here until he started declining.

See that's the point I think is overlooked exactly what you are saying its not an option of Welker of the past for $6M it's a 33 & 34 year old Welker and we have no idea if that is the same player or not but historically WR especially start to slow down at that age. We paid $9.5M for a 31 year old Welker so I can't put it on the money aspect as much as on the age.

I can't answer this question without using only emotion and guess work. To put things simply, I'm not a GM.

Is it crazy to think Amendola could be more productive as soon as next season? Is it far-fetched to think Welker wins a Super Bowl next year while Amendola finishes the year on the IR? Who knows?

I can't be upset by Belichick making a lateral move to brings in a comparable player who is a bigger part of long-term plans. Sure, I felt a little anxiety when I read Welker signed the new deal with Denver. I couldn't believe the term of the contract. But then Amendola came along. If I had to guess, time and Amendola will heal our wounds, but that is only a guess.

Durability is the key factor. Welker has been made of nails. Amendola, fine china. I love Amendola's game, but he needs to keep it on the field. I don't have much doubt he can produce at or near Welker's level if he's healthy.

He is bigger, faster and more athletic it's just a question of durability and intelligence

If Welker was 27 there wouldn't have been a decision. He would have gotten the 5 year deal probably for double what Amendola got, if you can somehow make Welker 27 but still have the production he had after 27.

Anyone trying to act like Amendola is some sort of good replacement is kidding themselves. The timing of Brady and Welker is impeccable and the best duo in the league from a chemistry standpoint which is huge in this offense.

The Patriots needed a wideout more then anything by far. That has held up this offense a lot in the last few years against top defenses in tight games. There hasn't been any real threat to stretch the field in years. Had they gotten Wallace and then signed Amendola then this wouldn't sting so bad, but they haven't addressed the wideout position for years other then those cheap bandaid attempts at getting Chad Johnson and Lloyd. Get a real freaking wideout for Brady already for god sakes. This method has already proven itself to fail.

BB shouldn't be given GM duties and I've wanted that to happen for a few years now. The guy hasn't been able to fix that defense to save his life, and he gets all this credit for the team's wins over the last few years, but it's been at the hands of the offense which is mainly due to having Tom Brady who is probably the best QB of all time. The Patriots need a GM that won't be some "yes man" to BB. That's what they need more then any free agent right now. Get a guy who can actually make a top defensive unit and a guy that understands what a really good wideout could do for this offense.

At 27 Welker had played 48 games with 208 catches, 2,296 yards and 9 touchdowns..
