with Hernandez and Edelman in the slot
plus the usual half dozen free agents like Branch and Stallworth

Does this work for you?

From a team-building standpoint, yes. That is enough talent at WR.

From a rooting standpoint, no, bring Welker back.

...why would we voluntarily downgrade instead of just signing Welker?

Welker, Jennings, Edelman and a first round WR.

Jennings, Welker, Edelman and a draftee works better for me

If we have the $$$$s

I'd like welker, just because of his history here, but I wouldn't be mad with Jennings, if he can stay healthy.

It works for me if Lloyd is a 3rd down WR only. If Ballard has any pass catching skills, then the triple TE threat/depth plus the OP roster is more than enough. Time to diminish the small ball mindset and get the play action game working again with a legit deep threat.

I'd rather have Wes than Jennings, but the bottom line is that if we add a high draft pick to some receiving group resembling last year's, I think we're OK. I know it makes a lot of people - maybe even Tom Brady - feel a little uneasy, but we're going to have to rely on a rookie at WR if we want to appreciably improve the group that we have.

This would be taking a step back on offense without saving money. I don't see how this would be a good idea.

Right, but how much money are we saving on Jennings in lieu of Welker?

I am simply proposing an option if the team can't come to terms with Welker.

I could live with it. Ive been a big proponent of the Pats passing offense getting away from the "over the middle" stuff and working the ball more to the outside. More balance. We still have Gronk, Ahern and Edelman if resigned to do that. Its just unfortunate that Welkers contract is up and he would be the odd man out. Jennings a better option on the numbers and #1 WR then Lloyd, and in turn making Lloyd a better option on the other side as a #2. The Draft is deep with WR so we could use a 2nd rounder on a WR (and maybe add a day 2 or 3 WR) to add depth.

Getting rid of Welker would satisfy BB's ego. He doesn't like Wes's antics.

David Nelson, Josh Cribbs (mostly as a returner) and Brandon Gibson.

Cut Lloyd and don't resign Welker if they can't come to terms on a reasonable deal.

Use the savings to sign a couple of Cornerbacks.

That would really suck.

They could do alot more then add a couple of corners. Add a safety and beef up the Dline. Talib, DRC, D Bryant and Reed. That would make the D alot better. Then draft a couple of WR with the first couple of picks.

That would be decent if they drafted a WR high and re-signed Welker.

Otherwise: doo-doo.

Yes, I would rather have Cribbs than Edelman.
