I would not be shocked if BB does NOT pick a WR

I wouldn't be shocked. Pats only have 5 picks, and you know BB will be doing a lot of trading to acquire more picks. So I doubt we will have a first round pick. If we do, I wouldn't be surprised if that was used on a defensive player, OR an offensive tackle (to replace Sea Bass). I would not be shocked to see a TE picked though. IF Welker and Edelman get resigned, AND the Pats sign another WR in free agency, no way does he select a WR. We all may want that big, physical, talented receiver in the draft (there are plenty), but when was the last time BB went the way we thought he would (besides last year).

It's an excellent year for WRs. The Patriots have a huge need for them. It will be a shock if they don't take one.

I dunno BB doesn't have the greatest track record drafting WRs (Chad Jackson, Brandon Tate, etc). I'd rather he sign a F/A.

Deion Branch, David Givens, Julian Edelman...

I definitely support a trade down this year. If we can get another two, I would like Jordan Poyer CB and Chris Harper WR in second round.

It would be plain stupid not to considering the draft class and the dire need. Even if we keep Lloyd and resign Welker, do we want two 33 year old starting WRs in 2014 with no young talent behind them?

we can probably get wheaton or patton with our 2nd round pick and we can get rogers with our 3rd most likely why wouldnt we pick one and plus we rehired daboli who helped develop the givens and branch

I'm with you. I'd rather see them draft an offensive and defensive lineman where they have had success. If they want to take a chance, use the 7th round picks and load up on high end UDFAs.
.

I would be absolutely stunned if they don't draft at least 1 WR. I think there is a good chance they draft 2.

I agree. There's either age or injury concerns for all the WRs we can bring back. Unless we go all in at WR in free agency, I just don't see how they look past the position.

Really just depends on how FA goes leading up to the draft and how the draft unfolds.

Deion Branch, David Givens, Julian Edelman...

Chad Jackson, Brandon Tate, Bethel Johnson...

2 can play at that game. LOL.

Pats have been very hit and miss with WRs, mostly miss. There are more names but I won't go through them. Their track record with 2nd/3rd round corners is also pretty awful.

Then again on the bright side, the Pats got fairly mediocre results on TEs - Graham/Watson until we hit the jackpot with Gronk Hernandez.

Positive turnarounds can happen with proper scouting/decision-making on draft day.

Are there any NFL teams that have hit on all their WR picks? As you've said in another thread, BB has never drafted a 1st round WR so a 50% success rate or thereabouts isn't bad at all.

This is the year to gain tall speed in the draft. While BB is always capable of surprising us, I think he's seen enough of his WR crew to know that he needs this sort of player.

well, no, obviously...
but...
thinking out loud...

PIT: Wallace, Brown
AZ: Fitz, Boldin, Doucet, Roberts
GB: Jennings, Jones, Nelson
PHI: Jackson, Maclin, Avant
ATL: Jones, White,Douglas
NO: Colston, Henderson, Meachem

I would be absolutely stunned if we didn't draft a wide receiver. Firstly, this draft is so deep in good young receivers so the value is there, secondly we currently have no one on the roster at the position. Even if we bring Welker back and sign a few players in free agency, we need an injection of youth. I just can't envisage a situation where Bill allows us to only have ageing receivers on our roster next year with no young developing back ups. He always tries to fill needs one year early. If it wasn't for the lack of picks I'd guarantee two draft picks at receiver.

GB: Cory Rodgers, Terrence Murphy
PHI: Freddie Mitchell
ATL: Laurent Robinson
NO: This one I'll give you although there have been some later round misses and Donte Stallworth hardly lived up to his first round billing.

So even the best teams at drafting WR's had their failures. I think this helps my point not hinder it.

Do you really think Rogers will be there in the 3rd round, he's a helluva talent.

i think since the WR group is so deep many teams will opt for the player without problems when they can get another solid WR in the 3rd round
