Why do people believe Revis will be traded?

Jets will understandably ask for an incredibly high price.
Revis will understandably not negotiate a long term contract with a new team to be more cap friendly.
No team will understandably trade a high price for a one year rental.

Quite frankly I wouldn't be that surprised if the highest bid the Jets got was a second. Everyone knows that they have no leverage and are desperate for draft picks, young talent, and getting rid of Revis' contract.

I just find it hilarious when Jets fans talk about how they will get two first round picks for a me-first, cap killer cornerback. When they have zero leverage and no one is stupid enough to pay anything significant for a one year rental of a player who is coming off ACL surgery and lateral quickness is hugely important for his position.

Jets are stuck with Revis' contract. Told them for years that building in the back end and not in the trenches and giving big money to corners is the quickest way to get your team cap killed. That's akin to giving franchise money to a RG and RT.

My hope is that Revis takes a paycut to play for the Patriots for the sole purpose of sticking it to the Jets and help winning us a superbowl. Of course that will never happen as he's proven he's all about the money, but boy would that be hilarious.

The reason why the Jets may trade Revis is that they are in cap hell.
And by the time they get out of it and have a chance to be a contending team again -- in a few year; Revis will be too old at that point. They'd be better off just blowing up the team, sucking for a few years (while Sanchez's contract expires), and rebuilding in the mean time.

Mallet is playing out a rookie deal from the 3rd round. add in a low round pick and the jets are sitting pretty with cap space, a legitimate potential starter at QB and an additional pick to fill their massive amount of holes.

I dont see them getting a really great deal for Revis via trade.

I don't like Revis as a person, but I do have to say that he looks damn good in that uniform. I just don't want the team to pay top quarterback money for a CB.

I think he will be traded. Revis is not an idiot. He's coming off of ACL surgery, and the question of whether he'll ever be 100% again won't be answered for at least another year. I do not expect an Adrian Peterson type of comeback, and we should remember that's the exception and not the rule. From Revis' perspective, if he can sign a long-term deal north of $10M per year, it's going to be a huge payday that will make him set for life. Some team will gamble that Revis will be the Revis of old and will give him a mega-deal. I think the Jets will shop Revis and Revis will cooperate by negotiating an extension with the potential suitor, as that is the only way this makes sense for everyone involved. The alternative for Revis is to play through a one-year deal, risk looking like a non-star as he continues to recover, and going through another year with the losers in NY and the whole circus atmosphere.

He's not going to want to sign a contract without getting a king's ransom. And no team will want to pay him what he thinks he deserves until he's proven that he's back at 100%.

Because the Jets know they can't pay him, they're screwed with the cap even discounting Revis's hit and he suffered a significant knee injury. In this day and age, most guys recover fully from those injuries, provided they take care of themselves and rehab properly, but you never know for sure.

Just because a player has QB next to their name on the depth chart doesn't make them a legitimate trade option for the best CB in football.

Many people in the media don't believe he will be traded. Many sources in the league have said it is unlikely he will be traded.

But the Jets have to trade him by the trade deadline. He has a no franchise tag clause in his contract and the Jets aren't going to pay him top dollar after Tannebaum gave the team a lot of top heavy contracts. That means if they don't trade him by the trade deadline, the most they will get is a compensatory pick in 2015 for him (which could be a third, but a low third).

A team trading for his contract will only have at most a $6 million dollar cap hit. The Jets meanwhile will take a $12 million dollar cap hit this year if they trade or release him.

And if Revis doesn't hold out of any mandatory off-season activities or training camp, he becomes a UFA without the Jets being able to Franchise Tag him. Which means even with the $12m cap for trading him, you do it now and get higher picks than a 3rd comp pick.
