SF gets a second rounder in 2013 & 2014 plus for Alex Smith.

That is a good deal for San Francisco...

The pick in 2014 is a conditional "mid-round" pick. Not necessarily a 2nd round pick.

KC sure likes to give up 2nd round picks for QB's, first Cassel and now Smith.

Re: Alex Smith traded to KC (title change)

SF is hitting on all cylinders these days. With an inexpensive QB for a another year or two, they can really build a sustainable force ...reminds me of the early Brady years.

Steal for SF.

Smart coaches like Jim Harbaugh know how to work with what they have instead of try to force a square peg into a round hole. With Smith, Harbaugh simplified the reads to get the most out of him.

KC's coach better understand this, or else the Smith era there is going to look a lot like the Nolan/Singletary era in SF.

Regards,
Chris

How is this such a good trade for SF? What was the cap hit if they released him? Seems to me like they should have got more value in a year with such few QB prospects and free agents... Kevin Kolb went for DRC and a 2nd himself...

Because Alex Smith sucks and should have almost no value. He's going to be awful without Harbaugh.

I agree but looking at previous years QB trades I'm trying to understand how Cassel goes for similar compensation and Kolb goes for more? Out of the 3 doesn't Smith have the best resume at the time of trade?

Don't you want more out of a former #1 pick which you invested stupid money in?

Re: Alex Smith traded to KC (title change)

I love Smith, but KC got hammered here in terms of not understanding leverage.

SF will take whatever they can get reasonable. No-one was parting with a 1st rd pick knowing that SF would more than likely cut him if no-one bit.

Presuming a contract extension for Smith, this is a good deal for both teams. Filling a major need with a 2nd rounder is a huge gain for KC.

I guess.... just makes the pats front office look even better for getting similar compensation for Cassel a few years ago.

Those of you who don't mind the salty language might want to pop on over to Chiefsplanet....

Their displeasure is on full display.

Alex Smith has no arm or accuracy. They aren't much better off than with Cassell. They got hosed.

Re: Alex Smith traded to KC (title change)

the rich got richer. SF already has the most picks in the draft and now a very high second rounder, too...I think this can be a very good draft this year and for the future for them.

In my opinion Kansas City gave up to much.
