Definitely weird, but I can't complain about the Anothony Spencer pick.

Look at their explanations, just plain ridiculous.
His explanation for the Miller pick is fine - no holes in his reasoning. BTW, Rob Rang is as solid as they come for media draft guys. In his mock for NFLDraftScout he has us taking Amobi Okoye and Spencer but in this newer one he's got Okoye higher now.

If we draft a TE in the 1st round, I'll fly to NE and b!tch slap BB. There are so many other needs it's insane to even think about drafting a TE that high even if Graham goes.

If we lose Graham, Samuel and TBC while signing no FA, then sure. It's a fairly easy scenario to see us signing a few second tier FA and having few holes heading into the draft. It's impossible to really do mocks before FA but Belichick has shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that he values TE highly on draft day.

This has to be one of the worst drafts i have seen done up yet.

Detroit? Gaines Adams? Yea they dont need a QB or OT or anything. Just sjip over two studs in college in Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn.

Miami, as much as miami needs o line help thats not there biggest concern. They need to improve their secondary with the first pick.

Carriker to San Fran? i dont see why not but a small reach

Buffalo taking Jarrett, this move reaks of marv levy they have LB problems and losing Clements yet they take a WR when they already have two solid ones. Nice one.

Carolina and Dwayne Bowe. Its a big no. Panthers will draft defense here no matter if its safety linebacker etc they will get someone.

Had no idea Revis was the best CB now.

Cowboys picking Ginn. is egh. No real need for him with Glenn and Owens.

Patriots taking Spencer is a reach seriously.

Zach Miller? Terrible pick.

.

I wouldn't be suprised at all if Miami drafted an offensive lineman in the first round.

Their defense is certainly aging but that unit is not the biggest of their problems. They have had issues at QB, and if Culpepper is going to be the guy they need a line that can keep him upright, especially because he is coming off an injury.

Most Fins fans are hoping for an O-lineman or a QB with the first pick.

Besides, IMO this is a relatively deep draft for DB's, especially safeties. Chances are a CB like McCauley, Wilson, or Houston will be available by their early second round pick, or a safety like Meriweather or Griffin.

I agree. We can't tell anything for sure until our FA's situations are settled, but even if Graham leaves and Samuel & TBC are re-signed, it would be a massive mistake to use a 1st rounder on a TE. Thomas has shown he can block. Watson is basically a WR trapped in a TE's body. So we have two solid TE's right there. Sure we need depth if Graham leaves. Jermaine Wiggins is likely to be a FA and I have no problem with taking a TE in the mid rounds. We wen't through so much crap just to get an extra 1st so at least draft a DB, LB, WR, or even OL. These positions need an influx of youth. TE is not a concern.

Personally I wouldn't take a TE in round one. I think we all liked what we saw in Thomas - in fact he really excites me. But looking at history, we'd all better be prepared for the possibility. However if we're passing up on the likes of Patrick Willis or, my favorite, Brandon Merriweather, that TE better be REAL good :)

If the patsies draft a TE in the 1st round, I'll drive the 7 hours to NE, meet you there, and we'll give BB a double b!tch-slap. Even if Grahambo is already gone.

The days of ignoring the LB position are (or should be) over.

PFT has us taking an O tackle for the first pick and a CB for our second pick.

Rang's mock draft is all about second-guessing teams' needs, but the Patriots look for "Best Player Available". What's more, he misinterprets the Patriots' needs when he says that they need a tight end if Graham leaves because they like to use a lot of two-tight-end sets. It's the other way round: they use two tight ends because they have talented tight ends they want to get on the field.

That said, if there is an outstanding tight end available, be prepared for us to pick him. Somehow, I don't think it is likely.

I 've thought we would take a TE in the first, no surprise there. Now its down to whether BB has evaluated one that high. We will see.

I think the situation is fairly simple. Posters here, as in every year, don't value TE's as highly as bb and pioli. They've used 2 firsts and third (plus the pick to trade up to get graham) to get what we had last year plus all the picks on failures long gone. This doesn't count Mills, who is a mystery man.

If Graham goes, we will certainly look at TE. To think that bb and pioli won't consider a TE with two first round picks shows a misunderstanding of how the team values positions in the draft.

I recognize that it is POSSIBLE that the FO values Watson and Thomas so much that they will let Graham go, and sign JAG free agent to replace him, and think everything that is fine. I just don't see it.

BTW, the fact that the FO chooses to bring in veteran linebackers year after year, instead of drafting them, does NOT mean that they don't value the position. It simply means, that in THEIR experience, they'd rather train UDFA's like Alexander, Woods and Mays or get their linebackers from other teams like Colvin, Vrabel, Cox, Phifer and Seau (and yes, Beisel, Brown and Gardner). Just by the way, this regime has drafted five linebackers in six years. None are signed for the 2007 roster. The bottom line is that this position has been a strength.

Defensive backs are another matter. They will definitely draft a defensive back or two, especially if Samuel is not expected to play.

The issue is VALUE and perceived need. I think that posters here have different views than than the FO regarding first round value by position, and the need at TE.

Whether any of the TE's will be an appropriate value pick is another question entirely.

It was worth the read if only for the line.....

'The Bengals' defense continues to be more dangerous off the field than on it.'

Stranger things have happened.
Maybe the LB position get's filled in via free agency.. Thomas from Baltimore

But Thomas is only an OLB and we need younger help inside.

Right now, there are only four positions I can't see BB/SP picking in the first round: QB, K, P, and LS. About the only other thing that could surprise me is if BB/SP spent BOTH first-rounders on offense.

If Graham leaves, Miller in the first isn't a terrible idea (although, as others have said before, Brian Leonard is an even more obvious fit for the Pats).

I actually like Carriker to San Fran. They seriously need to build up their defensive line, and Carriker could play in both a 4-3 or a 3-4.
