I now presume that we will have Welker, Lloyd, Edelman, a top draft choice and a JAG free agent.

Since we brought in 47 WRs in addition to those guys last year I wouldn't presume anything

I presume that camp will be the same. I'm just predicting that one of the many free agenst brought in will be on the squad to start the season.

Hopefully you're right but hopefully he's not a JAG. You can only afford to carry so many on a roster... What they need is a legit middle deep physical threat. Someone to compete with Lloyd for the #2WR/#3-4 target slot including in the red zone. Especially considering it is not a given Gronk will ever again be seemingly the indestructible force he was for his first two seasons here...

I don't know...if Welker sets us back $9M annually, it's hard to justify spending another 2.5-3 on Edelman. That's more money spent on slot receivers than on the greatest QB of all-time.

Welker's cap will not be $9M, probably closer to $7M.

We are hoping that the player you seek will be our first or second round draft choice. I just don't see us paying a lot for an additional free agent wide receiver. Free agency (one we sign our own) will be all about defense, with perhaps some money spent on a couple of offensive linemen.

I'm hoping that it will be a draftee too, particularly a higher round one, but I am also expecting at least one of the usual amount of WR's brought in to potentially upgrade the WR3/4 spot (depending on where you'd place Edelman..or the draftee).

One in the mid-lower tier free agent market, possibly from the list that none of us much cared for (Devery Henderson etc), or possibly from a cap crunch casualty (Breaston, possibly M.Austin, etc, etc, etc). I have a feeling they will have better luck at turning in a mid-lower cost player into something more productive this time without risking too much cost.

The value at the top in most drafts and in this draft is defense and trenches. Skill players on offense don't translate as well from college to the pros let alone in this system. Find WR's who can play in the league and teach them the system. I'm fine with drafting a kid for development, but not in the fist or even second this season. I think Bill will look for value FA on defense, he's not looking to sign a stud defender to his big 2nd deal...bad enough when he has to sign one of his own to one of those. He needs to draft additional talent for defense, not pay a premium for it.

Welker's cap # won't be anywhere near that on a 5 year $8M deal as rumored. And Edelman isn't even seeing $2.5-3M in his dreams unless it's on a 2 year deal...with per game incentives. Edelman is a punt returner and backup receiver or a #3-4 WR on a team that seldom uses that many here. The only pro offense he's ever done a thing in is a fairly specific one no one else runs let alone with a HOF QB at the helm. That and his durability issues really limit his FA market.

just saying that because I say it every year
