From @AdamSchefter & I: Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski underwent surgery last week for an infection in the forearm he re-broke against Houston.

Rob Gronkowski's elbow infection was caught early enough that he is likely not miss any extended time and is expected to be for camp.

Heel up big fella.

"Shouldn't miss any time in camp" per Schefter...

I'd be interested in whether Schefter knows about another European league or something that Gronk plays in during his offseason here? Surely he's not talking of NFL training camp that starts in late July.

That'd have to be one significant arm infection to keep him out for something that doesn't happen for 5+ more months!!

I had a staph infection in my leg once and it only took a couple of weeks to heal that. Unless he developed some kind of mega-virus that will chew his arm off from the inside, I think we should be okay.

Thank God for Schefter.

Maybe he's talking about OTAs and mini camp? :noidea:

So he wasn't pulled from Oscar duty by team PR, he just had a medical reason to be elsewhere?

Booze and antibiotic don't go together so he had the surgery.

Just noting the infection followed Gronk one arm wrestling a grown man

I imagine this is what kept Gronk out of the Oscar Interviews he was supposed to do for something (a podcast? a radio show? don't remember). So can we please stop with the "The Patriots are reigning in Gronk" and the "Let Gronk be as dumb as he wants!" bickering in the other thread?

Surgery on arm for infection?? Maybe it is me, but that sounds serious.. bone infection or just an infection?

An infection following bone surgery is very serious stuff.
That probably means bone was removed.

So the "should be ready for training camp next summer" is relevant.

Body slamming people with a cast on probably doesn't accelerate the healing in this situation.

I pray Ballard is going to be ready for a full season, we are gonna need him.

Come on now. We all know what a delinquent Gronk is unless he's being chaperoned by BB and Stacey James. I mean.. we just have to look at this board and see the thread saying so..

Just noting that they noted that the infection had nothing to do with the one arm wrestling.. But thanks for mentioning it..

Except that he didn't Bodyslam anyone. Bodyslamming someone involves picking them up. Something that Gronk didn't do. Also, you can't tell in the video if his arm hits the stage because there are two people between the camera and the stage so you can't see what the left arm does. It's very likely that the arm didn't hit anything.

Now, as for whether it's a bone infection or what not, let's stop speculating. For all you know it could have been an infection around the new plate they put in. The body can be fickle about having a steel plate in it. Or, since it was so deep, the interior sutures to help the muscle heal could have gotten infected. We don't know.

Let's wait until there is some actual story blurps instead of just taking SWAGS..

More serious than the infection Brady got while recovering from his ACL/MCL surgery around this same time of year? The one where he reportedly wheeled around his IV drip of anti-biotics? The fact that Gronk was just seen in public probably states that it's nowhere near as severe, and that Schefter is simply drumming up some added drama.

Like DaBruiz said, it very well could be an infection from the steel plate also. Let's see how severe this enormous setback is in April or May before we start worrying about missing training camp, not that it would matter that much anyway. He could probably show up for the last 10 days of camp in about 6 months and still be quite a force to start the season.

The real worry would be if he's still in bad shape in 6 months from now, taking us to the last week of August.

Oh come on it's just Gronk bein' Gronk.
If this doesn't wake up the mental midget nothing will.
Sadly the name Kellen Winslow Jr keeps coming to mind.

Of course, that thread had nothing at all to do with Gronk acting like a hyperactive out-of-control drunk teenager with ADD now, did it? Yeah, we conjure faux controversies of pure imagination here at Patsfans ...

You're so ridiculous, he was dancing with a friend... Tons of people on this board go out dancing, but they don't matter at all in the grand scheme of life, so no one cares that they're out dancing so no one takes videos of them and then writes news articles.

Hyperactive, out of control drunk teenager... wow...

So glad that we don't have total idiots in the front office, because if people on this board were in charge this team would be awful... It would be full of church going folk that you would like as your neighbor, but it would be full of total sallies and would never win a title.
