The objective for any team should be the field the best units possible. Defensively, it's generally a good idea to add an enforcer in the defensive backfield that is at least competent in coverage. Chung is a hard hitter, and completely incompetent in coverage. By drafting him, though, Belichick made it pretty clear that he favors an enforcer type back there, just as he did when he picked up Rodney all those years ago. I suspect he'll be looking again this offseason.

Absolutely he will be looking for one but Rodney is not walking through that door hopefully we can find someone closer. Just saying it is not a requirement to getting to a SB see 2011. Brady and this O is going to be what carries you and realistically just getting better at coverage back there would be alot if one of those guys can lay the lumber too all the better.

This defense needs to:
1. Re sign talib or a corner as good or better than him for a fair price
2. Sign desmond bryant or henry melton to improve the interior pass rush(if we can even afford him, this would definetely cost us volmer, welker, and anyone else)
3. Draft the honey badger in round 4 or 5 if available to play slot cb
4. Try to sign a fair priced ss like adrian wilson if he gets released, or traded(unless we can draft a guy like elam in the 2nd round).
5. I think the pats will have no money left to spend for a pass rushing specialist, so maybe we will have to try to draft one late, or hope chandler jones can get much better and the inside pressure gets better.

The front 4 will have a nice balance of run stop and pass rush, the linebackers are all great at the run and some can even blitz, but the coverage must improve, and the secondary will be much improved with Cb1: talib Cb2: dennard Slot: Honey badger Backup cb: downling

If dennard has to miss a few games, the team can survive with dowling(and if he gets hurt) then go back to mccourty at cb and put in another safety

And the Pats need someone with experience and explosion to go along with Chandler Jones. As opposed to previous years, this defense actually needs an injection of experience, it doesn't need to get younger.

Now CB, WR, OL you draft those because they are generally too expensive as free agents - ie 10m per for the good ones.

Strong Safety can be fixed very easily, either through Fa or the draft. The pats can sign a guy like reed (who is a bit overrated now) or try to trade for adrian wilson. The pats can also try to see what they have in tavon wilson or draft elam or dj swearinger(projected round 3-4). If the pats dont spend on fa for a SS and wr(draft tavon or someone else) then they should definitely spend for a guy like henry melton or desmond bryant and talib.

It's also important to note that the WR class this year is deeper than any year they've selected a WR within the first three rounds.

After a year spent in Oakland, Richard Seymour is headed for unrestricted free agency.

He's open to playing for just about any team. Except the one that drafted him.

"There's probably about 31 teams I'd consider going to," Seymour said in a conversation with Tom Curran of Comcast Sports New England. TC asked him if he'd take a call from the Patriots if they approached him.

"That isn't something I'm looking to do at all," Seymour said. "But there's no ill will. I wish them the best. I really mean that. . . . I think it could have ended in a more respectful way, but that's just my personal opinion."

Seymour certainly isn't at his career peak, but he'll be an attractive, experienced starting option for the many 3-4 teams in the league. (The Chiefs and Broncos come to mind.)

With that said, the Patriots are likely very content to hold Oakland's first-round pick in 2011.

As someone who watches a lot of Cardinals games, I can assure you he's not. Yes he'd provide leadership and hard hitting, but he used to be great in coverage for a strong safety and the last 2-3 years his coverage has been horrible. They can't afford to have that big of a liability in coverage, although I agree they need a hard hitting safety.

Right now corner is a much bigger concern. Their top 3 corners either are unrestricted free agents or are waiting to get sentenced. As good as the group of safeties in this draft is, it would make more sense to use another early pick on a corner.

Seymour believes that the Patriots treated him disrespectfully. Further, there are a number of other organizations out there that will most definitely offer him more for his services than the Patriots would. He's not coming back.
