Looks like top priority over jennings despite price. Would have to face him twice a year but with tannehill still being new in the league.. i wouldn't be worried for a few years. Plus Wallace likes to have the dropsies every now and then

I don't blame the Dolphins for wanting him over Jennings. Jennings has been injury prone the last few seasons and Wallace is still young. They'll overpay, but why should we care about that?

I think he would be a nice fit in Miami. Especially if they keep Hartline.

Potential skill player breakdown:

Tannehill

Wallace
Hartline
Bess

Fasano

Miller

To me, that's a lot of "meh". But I'm not big on either Tannehill or Hartline. I certainly won't be shocked if they don't bring back Fasano, either.

Five picks in the first three rounds of this deep draft though. They could start getting better in a hurry.

If anyone in the league could screw that up, it's Jeff Ireland.

Potential is a dirty word. Miami is full of it.

tannehill does not impress me. I don't expect much from him this upcoming year. same as last year

Some media opinions on Wallace, from the Dolphins' perspective:

Is Mike Wallace worth a $60 million contract from Miami? - South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com
The Miami Dolphins haven't hidden the fact they'll upgrade the receiver position through free agency, providing quarterback Ryan Tannehill the weapons he needs to jump start the passing game.

"I think this is the year that you've got to do something," General Manager Jeff Ireland said. "We're looking for playmakers on offense."

INDIANAPOLIS: Miami Dolphins’ search for impact wide receiver might not come in NFL Draft - Miami Dolphins - MiamiHerald.com
That’s why free agency is so important. By re-signing Hartline (which by all appearances the team is trying to do before he hits the open market) and then adding a Mike Wallace or Greg Jennings, it would open up all kinds of possibilities in the draft.

Wallace is expected to fetch in excess of $10 million annually — a steep price, but one the Dolphins probably need to pay, according one league personnel evaluator. Even if Wallace does nothing but run go-routes, the source said, he’ll be worth the investment if he catches 12 touchdown passes and 1,400 yards for the Dolphins.

Should the Dolphins sign one of those free agent receivers, they could wait until the second or third rounds — where they have four combined picks — to add receiver help. Baylor’s Terrance Williams, West Virginia’s Tavon Austin and Louisiana Tech’s Quinton Patton would be options.
That would allow the Dolphins to use their first-round pick to fill other another hole.

And while the receiver position might be uninspiring, this is a great draft for offensive and defensive tackles, experts agree.

Miami Dolphins Free Agency Target Mike Wallace Scouting Report - The Phinsider
The Miami Dolphins will be looking to add weaponry to their offense this offseason, building around second year quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The team, according to reports yesterday, will target Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace as their top priority in free agency, looking to add much needed speed to the offense. While Wallace is one of the top free agents this year, he also comes with baggage.Wallace has the same problem that infuriated Dolphins fans for the two seasons Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall was in Miami - drops. Wallace also has a reputation as a "diva," something that Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin has been reluctant to deal with in his first year with the team.

To get a better idea of what the Dolphins could expect from Wallace if they land him, I turned to SB Nation's Pittsburgh Steelers blog, Behind the Steel Curtain. Managing Editor Neal Coolong gives us an in-depth look at Wallace:

Mike Wallace will entice Miami Dolphins; Darrelle Revis buzz - NFL.com
1) The Miami Dolphins are poised to be big spenders in free agency, with more than $40 million in cap space. Who will they target? Expect a major push for an offensive skill player. In talking with general manager Jeff Ireland, he focused on landing a player who can produce explosive plays. That would seem to indicate their eyes will turn to receiver Mike Wallace. When I mentioned how a player with scheme familiarity could hit the ground running -- like receiver Greg Jennings, who spent time with coach Joe Philbin in Green Bay -- Ireland responded that it could be helpful. (Last year, rookie QB Ryan Tannehill eased his way into the NFL by playing in an offense under his old Texas A&M coach, Mike Sherman.) Early signs point to Wallace being the target, though.

Five picks in the first three rounds of this deep draft though. They could start getting better in a hurry.

5 picks in the top 3 rounds in addition to their 40 million in cap room should definitely make them better, even if they only hit on 50/50. I think we'd all be shocked if they didn't bring in either Wallace or Jennings, and then probably added another top round WR in the draft with one of their top couple/few selections. That could improve their WR position dramatically.

This is definitely Ireland's best chance and last chance at turning the team around. We'll see if he's able to do that, but I think there's nowhere to go but up.

Read earlier that Jennings is looking for $14M. They figure he will be on the market for a while and rethink his asking price once the initial wave of FA overpayments passes him by.

These rumors make Welker look better every day.

I'm perfectly okay with the Dolphins overspending for Wallace.

Yet people have the gall to demean Welker's production and likely salary demand despite showing no sign of slowing down. If Jennings and Wallace are 12 and 14 guys then Welker is an 18 million man.

jenning wants 14 mill a year? HAHAH good luck with no job buddy. makes harvins 10 mill look like nothing

The GM of the colts likely agrees with you.

That's the first thing that came to my mind too. As good as it is making Welker look here, he's also a much more affordable option, and really more consistent and durable too, with better production as an option for any of the potential landing spots.

My worry is that Belichick and his evaluation process in deciding the ultimate value on Welker will probably not change too much if any, so all of these other outside circumstances such as what these receivers want aren't going to matter any to Bill as far as coming up too much on his offer.

It could also allow Welker to realize that he needs to stand firm with his demands, since they aren't nearly as steep. It may even push him towards coming up a bit in price, although that's debatable. It probably isn't doing much to make him think that he is unreasonable though, or making him think twice about meeting the front office in the middle any.

In the meantime, Welker may be looking more and more of an option as certain teams' first choice when you set aside the Miami's and Team X's of the world looking for big fast receivers like Wallace/Jennings, so the price driving of both Wallce/Jennings could really be hurting our chances of keeping Welker in multiple ways.
