I am really hooked on WR Tavon Austin of West Virginia. I really feel, if the Pats don't sign Welker, this guy would be the perfect replacement. He is truly a Swiss Army knife. 225 catches the last 2 years, a great return man, can run out of the backfield as a RB, just a perfect pick for the Pats. He would add such a great speed element as well. The fact that he's be a perfect pick for the Pats, scares me, because Belichick never picks what the scouts and fans feel is perfect for the Pats.

I was a big fan of Desean Jackson a few years back, and of course, he turned out to be as good as I thought he'd be. I think Austin can be even better, due to the RB factor. I'd be very disappointed if the Pats don't pick him.

You guys and gals ever feel the same way about a prospect and the Pats bypassed them ? Who was it ?

I was desperate for Mark Barron last year until his late rise just before the draft.

We kept passing on Marvin Jones last year. I wanted him bad and it would be nice to have him on the roster now considering the mess we're in at WR.

I've had a few of those. Learned to not be so closed minded towards the draft to avoid disappointment. Lamar Woodley, Connor Barwin, Cliff Avril,Eric Weddle were some.

I like your Tavon Austin crush. Only problem with him is I feel we almost have to sign or draft a outside threat to go with him. Super production and I think he would succeed with someone like Wheaton on the outside. 175 pounds is pretty light though.

Never.

Well...

Maybe 20 or 30 times a year.

Makes me wonder why I haven't read too many "Sign Connor Barwin" posts now that he's on the market.

I loved JJ Watt and Aldon Smith as prospects. Also really liked Connor Barwin, but he let me down this year and doesn't really fit as a pure pass rushing DE for the Pats next season.

My list of latter-day unrequited draft loves:

Trumaine Johnson
Ras-I Dowling (heh)
Everson Griffen
Ziggy Hood
Domonique Rodgers-Cromartie

Toby Gerhart and Stephen Hill.

Yeah, good thing I'm not the GM. :D

I was a HUGE fan of Jarron Gilbert, and not because of that Youtube video in which he jumps out of a pool. I really thought he was going to the next Trevor Pryce or something and I was upset when the Pats passed on him. As it turns out, he was massive bust even for a 3rd rounder.

Give it time. First, we need to see if he is re-signed. :)

Da'Quan Bowers
Alshon Jeffery
Juron Criner
Micah Johnson

For me it was Greg Hardy a few years ago. They definitely should have took a flyer on him in the 4-5 round.

I've always been a linebacker fan so passing on James Laurinitis had me peeved.

True, but Laurinaitis had to go to the Rams so he could be there to, ahem, welcome GRONK to the NFL. :D

I really wanted the Pats to draft JJ Watt. He was my favorite DE in the draft. Turned out I was right but he was picked by the Texans ahead of us at #11. So we'll never know. Solder was a pretty good pick and filled a need so it worked out.

Don't be upset if the Pats don't pick the guy you wanted. It might even be that they wanted the same guy but other team swoop ahead and scoop em up.

Or, as in 2011, when the Pats played "keepaway" and screwed the Ratbirds three times (trading down to let the Cowboys take Dez Bryant, then trading ahead of them to get GRONK, and then taking Hernandez one pick before the Ratbirds took Dennis Pitta).

Belichick usually makes us look dumb, but not in the beginning of the 2nd Round of 2009 when he drafted Chung, Brace and Butler. We still haven't recovered.

Naah. We could have had Laurinitis AND Gronkowski.

2009 ROUND 2

Chung was drafted at #34. Laurinitis was the next pick at #35. I wanted Laurinitis. Others wanted Mauluaga or Barwin.

The we picked Brace at #40. I want an OL: Unger or Levitre, or S William Moore.

Almost all were OK with Butler with the next pick (other than Barwin folk).

Belichick saved the draft by drafting Vollmer at #58.

There have been so many but Mike Wallace is the one that killed me the most especially how it turned out but he may never have fit into the system so who knows. Kevin Turner another since they drafted Cobbs much to my chagrin. I think that's the worst when they take a guy from the same position that you don't like with your guy on the board.

I don't count guys like Patrick Willis, Aldon Smith or JJ Watt who were gone.

Conversely the two picks I loved that they took might to my delight were Gronk and Hightower.

The draft pick I hated from the start was Chad Jackson. I had him as a bust. I loved Maroney though so...
