Rumored Cuts?

Will the Titans think he is worth the money, especially when they have all those drafted WRs above him?

That's the question.

how much do they stand to lose if they release him? how much of a cap hit? and what was his signing bonus?

can't see them cutting him

Ken Lucas is very good too. Alot of these guys have injury knocks (Morgan's career is probably over, he's had too many concussions). Booker played well in a #2/3 role with the Dolphins last year, too. Smoot's struggled, though he was a good #2 CB at one point.

In the wake of Ted Johnson's complaints about the Pats and their treatment of him, the last thing they would do is sign a guy with a history of concussion problems...

The guys that I would want the Pats to go after would be in no particular order:

1. Maybe Llyod. Showed potential with the 9ers with crappy QB's, didn't do much in Washington because there were more crappy QB's.
2. Horn for sure; yes he is 35 but his stats speak for themselves before injury. 37-679-4 td's and 18+ yard per reception. I'm sure he can still play at a very high level. Could even keep Chad Jackson in check? Maybe teach him a few things?
3. Marty Booker is very underrated and always gave the Pats a hard time. He is a big, strong, physical receiver that runs good routes and has solid hands.
4. CB Ken Lucas. Great cover corner, big, strong, physical type that likes to jam recievers at the line. Something the Pats need. Would be a solid pickup for sure.
5. David Patten. Would love to see David end his career with the team that he had the most success with. I'm sure Tom Brady would be happy to re-unite with him.
5. Damien Woody. Someone needs to push Stephen Neal. He is the weak link on the line. Woody might be able to push him. Woody is a good run blocker. Something the Pats need.

Hartwell, Patten, Smoot.

Hartwell is a refugee from the Ravens 3-4, and is an ILB that we so desperately want/need.

Patten knows the offense, instant #3/4 WR plugin with Troy Brown.

Smoot has had trouble with the Vikings man-to-man defensive scheme, but did very well in Washington when he was provided with help. Worth a look, especially with the Samuel situation.

However, as this is John Clayton we are talking about, and as several as these players were on last year's certain cut list, I'd have to say this smells like bull****. I'd be surprised if he bats higher than .200 on these predictions.

Why do people want Patten back? He's led the team in 2004 in Drops and was basically benched going into the play-offs. It was OBVIOUS he wasn't coming back.

I'd be very surprised if Ken Lucas was let go. When they signed him in 2005, it was to a 6 year deal with a 13 million signing bonus. That leaves 8.7 million in signing bonus amortization they'd have to eat if they let him go. I don't see that happening when they are already over the 109 million cap and still have to eat Peppers 3 million NLTBE bonus this year.

Atlanta is in the same boat with Hartwell. His deal was a 6 year/26.25 million deal. His signing bonus was $ 8 million, but the contract was guaranteed.

1) Lloyd - was just signed LAST YEAR by the Redskins to a 5 year/$25 million deal with a 10 million signing bonus. That means they'd have to eat 8 million in cap hits. Not gonna happen

2) Horn - *shrug* He's been injured the last 2 years.

3) Booker - 6'0 210 lbs. Wouldn't exactly call him big and physical. He's quick, for sure. Got decent hands.

4) Ken Lucas - Has 8.7 million in SB money remaining on his contract. I don't see the Panthers eating that.

5) Patten - Guy got benched and basically was a non-factor during the home stretch and play-offs in 2004. Its why he was let go. Wouldn't make this team

6) Woody - The only way Damion Woody would push Neal is if Woody was trying to get to the food line. The Patriots were more than happy to let Detroit over-pay for the over-weight center turned guard. He's also injury prone.

I hope you didn't mean David Patten. There is no way he will make this team![/QUOTE]

I'd be fascinated to learn, space ...
how many of today's posters have any idea what you're referring to ?

That's a good question.

Back then, looking at the thread provided in Pats Fanatic's post, you were p2v. Then you became f2p (which led me to find out about "The Pass") and now, thanks to Mr Casale....

I think some of these players will be re-signed by March 2nd, or signed by someone else at an outrageous price by March 16th. Then it will be time to really look at free agents. I think there are very few that we will make market offers to before then. Of this list, Horn certainly qualifies. Fletcher qualifies also and Stallworth if he's available.

Patton does too, but he'll never make the team. I'd guess that there are a lot of long-time lurkers who might recall the reference, and most who have posted 1,000 times.

Please do not take Dan Morgan MLB Panthers
He is always hurt and is one more hit away from forced retirement!

Al these players have their warts but if they all enter free agency the overall available talent increases. Having more available options can only help the Patriots.

I'm reading the article by John Clayton explaining every teams cap situation going into the offseason and he mentions some players that may get cut. These players include:

WR Brandon Llyod
WR David Patton
WR Justin McCareins
WR Joe Horn
CB Fred Smoot
WR Marty Booker
OG Damien Woody
CB Ken Lucas
ILB Ed Hartwell

Any one of these guys would be worth looking into? What do you guys think?

I don't get why the Saints would cut Joe Horn. He's still agood receiver and really is the emotional leader of the team. Plus I don't think he's gotten into trouble since the cell phone thing.
