Charles Woodson to Be released by Packers?

Andrew Brandt ‏@adbrandt
Reports of Charles Woodson's impending release from the Packers. Special player, remember recruiting/signing him as a free agent.

Woodson's Twitter handle below...

@TwentyFourWines: Thank you Green Bay it was a great run! Twitter / TwentyFourWines: Thank you Green Bay it was ...

Has been somewhat injury-prone recently and is more of a FS(where McC is now), but big time veteran leadership and could maybe play in the slot?

Get him on the phone Bill, now!

Intrigued. I know he's 36, but I'm guessing he's a better DB than Steve Gregory & Tavon Wilson, still.

Re: Charles Woodson to Be released by Packers?

What kind of coin is he expected to seek?

Don't know, but I can't imagine there's a huge market for 36 year old DBs.

If he comes cheap and can stay healthy, could be a hell of a bargain.

Aged or not,a secondary with Ed Reed at Safety and Charles Woodson at CB would make a defense an instant top 10 ranked one.

I know we won't sign both, let alone one being unlikely...I just hope no AFC team decides to look at them both

Woodson doesn't play CB anymore. He's almost strictly a safety. Signing both of them would be redundant.

I wasn't aware that he was strictly a safety .... I thought he was used wherever it was needed with team injury problems

He's old, broken, and living off his past performances and name he got in 2009.

Same with Reed. Wouldn't mind Reed as he can cover a lot of ground and help organize the backend, but people expecting 2007 Reed or any sort of elite play out of either of these guys are kidding themselves. They are old and overrated. Ravens fans for much of the season wanted Reed benched, though that may have been a little overreaction to some poor plays.

His better days are clearly behind him as a player, even more so than Reed, but either would be valuable as a veteran presence and on field coach. George Wilson is still playing pretty well and he brings that leadership plus Wilson knows the AFC East. He is another option.

I would take Reed on one leg and one hand tied behind his back then keeping Gregory if a choice had to be made.....smarts and positioning sometimes makes up a lot of ground for speed

I don't know. I'm tired of the Pats picking up other teams' aging stars and trying to squeeze a few more good years out of them, often with mixed results (which look like this - older guy comes in, looks good in camp, looks like he's going to be great, oops, injury, just can't get back to form, after teasing us for a while). Is it too much to ask that they go into the draft and get a stud that can start young and healthy here and be here for years to come? It's been a while since Rodney Harrison joined the team.

I like Wilson.....at a decent price

Its a gamble no matter how you pick them or what position they are playing.

For every aging player like Fred Taylor who was a bust in FA due to injury, you have a guy like Andre carter and Brian Waters who played great here for one season.

He told his agent he wants to play for a contender with a great chance to win now. Don't know how much of an impact he have but what we had last couple of years and not filling in those needs other than signing Talib end of season can he be that bad?

I hear ya, but even Andre Carter and Brian Waters aren't doing us any good now. I want good young players who are going to be here for a while.
