2013 NFL Football Free Agents - CBSSports.com Player Movement

You must pick exactly four players from this list.

1 from those ranked 1-25
1 from those ranked 26-50
1 from those ranked 51-75
1 from those ranked 76-100

Assume none of our current FA (Welker, Talib, Vollmer, etc...are previously signed)

The combined "ranking" must be at least 200.

Yes, I realize there are a lot of other factors (cost/cap mostly), but just go with it.

Here are mine:

Wes Welker (18)
Sean Smith (27)
Ed Reed (67)
Kyle Arrington (88)

Strongly considered going DL (Seymour, Dorsey) but ended up heavy DB.

= 200 (just worked out that way)

Welker
Talib
Landry
Arrington
203

Welker
Seymour
Reed
Arrington

219

Desmond Bryant
Derek Cox
Ed Reed
Kyle Arrington

207

Tempted to try and fit Hartline, Barwin or DRC in there but it was tough

Wow..I'd be really happy with just about anyone's choices so far.

Without Asomugha released yet, I'll go with what Deus has.

Salary and Cost aside

1-25 Ryan Clady - Replaces Vollmer and is a stud at T... probably gives us the best tackle duo in the league.

26-50 Richard Seymour - Adds a penetrating DE/DT across from Vince who knows our system and he doesn't have to be the star here. (attitude aside as this is a perfect world)

51-75 Ed Reed - Solidifies Saftey with a all time great and veteran presence.

76-100 Toss up between Leodis Mckelvin and Arrington here Mckelvin for a reclamation project away from Buffalo. Arrington for a guy who knows the system.

Oh, what the hell...I'll try and go outside the box a little out of boredom.

Danny Amendola WR 25

William Moore S 26

Cary Williams CB 57

Ricky Jean-Francois DT 97

205

Since we are ignoring external factors and assuming this is a one year deal, just BPA for 2013:

20 DT Desmond Bryant
32 CB Derek Cox
57 CB Cary Williams
94 OT Demetress Bell

=201

Then in the draft look to add two wide receivers, a safety, and the best lineman available. Lets say OG Jon Cooper (rd. 1) WR Justin Hunter (rd. 2), WR Quinton Patton (rd. 3). Send the receivers over to Cali for the summer.

Cox-McCourty-Gregory-Williams (Dennard-Dowling-Wilson nickel and dime)
Mayo-Spikes-Hightower
Jones-Bryant-Wilfork-Armstead (Ninkovich-Love-Francis rotational)

Solder-Mankins-Wendell-Cooper-Cannon (Bell-Connolly-Zusevics options)
Gronk-Hernandez-Lloyd (plus whoever of Hunter-Patton-Ballard-Hooman)
Brady
Ridley (Vereen-Woodhead-Bolden-Demps)

The weak link in this scenario would be cover LB/safety. Not sure how to cover all the bases though...

25 Danny Amendola- was tempted to keep welker but I think Welker will want major $$$. Amendola gives a similar skill set is younger and should be cheaper too.

32 Derek Cox- replaces Talib probably costs less than Talib less likely to blow up in our faces is a similar size.

67 Ed Reed- veteran safety helps bring on our young team DMc and Wilson get to learn from one of the best while coverage gets an upgrade. This is a 1-2 year lets make a run for Super Bowl again

92 Tracey Porter- My numbers left me able to pick anyone in the last 25 by chance but I only considered 4 players. Dorsey, Arrington, Mckelvin and Porter. My choice of Porter is simply I think he is an upgrade over Arrington able to play slot and outside corner has had several clutch moment in his career a decent tackler.

We need to resign or replace Talib and Arrington we can't draft DB's very well so I figured to get them via FA rather than trade a solid quick WR to replace welker I just don't see him taking a team friendly deal. Let Vollmer go draft another OT Scar can make it work and save some cap. Having decided to fill OT via draft left me with a luxury pick I considered Connor Barwin or Ed Reed Barwin seemed like a player we didn't really need we have 3 good LB's but lack a coverage LB which Barwin is not be can play 4-3 DE but we have Jones and Ninkovich plus Armstead is an unknown who looked good up in the CFL but can play inside too. so Reed became my choice I wanted to take a CB in this slot but none of them appealed to me.

My total=216

I know you said one from each 1/4 of the list, but a more Patriots way of doing it I think would be to pick either all four from the 25-75 slots, or maybe one from 1-25 and the remaining three from say 40-75.

When I was looking at the list originally I forgot your 1 from each quarter of the list requirement and I came up with:

Dwight Freeney (49)
Brian Hartline (54)
Dominique Rogers-Cromartie (55)
Ed Reed (67)
Total = (225)

I thought about putting Seymour over Freeney, but Freeney is a bit younger, has a history of fewer missed games, and (as far as I know) has never publicly stated that he would not play for the Pats.

Jairus Byrd- Need a great Safety Duh
Osi Umenyiora- Reasons
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie- Talib Replacement
Ted Ginn - #3 Wr/Return man

200...........Looks like I win

With this scenario of course we would draft a WR first round

Greg Jennings
Sean Smith
LaRon Landry
Kyle Arrington

15 + 27 + 74 + 88 = 204

Smith, Dennard, McCourty & Landry looks like a good secondary.

Paul Kruger: (7) I like this guy, i thought he played well in the games I saw.
Terrance Knighton: (42) beef.
Cary Williams (57) like the size.
Demetress Bell (94) highest available

200

1-25: 18) Wes Welker
26-50: 46) Richard Seymour
51-75: 57) Cary Williams
76-100: 91) Josh Cribbs

WR, DT/DE, CB, and PR/KR. Total: 212

1-25: 18) Wes Welker
26-50: 46) Richard Seymour
51-75: 57) Cary Williams
76-100: 91) Josh Cribbs

WR, DT/DE, CB, and PR/KR. Total: 212

I'd probably roll with this, but I really want Melton.

DL- Henry Melton - 9
WR - Brian Hartline - 54
TE - Dustin Keller - 63
S - Laron Landry - 75

201

DL- Henry Melton - 9
WR - Brian Hartline - 54

S - Laron Landry - 75

201

So you're expecting the Pats to roll with Gronk, Hernandez, Ballard, and Keller?

BTW: you can't pick Landry.
