Odds are that if he is fired, yesterday was his last day on the air. Rarely to radio stations put fired hosts on the radio.

Surprisingly, that is not the case.

Ordway on air today. Promises to discuss things he's never talked about before. Has some things to get off his chest. Should be interesting.

Obviously, Ordway isn't a far better host because he didn't get the ratings.

That's one of the sillier things you'll ever post. If you're really going to try to start your argument there, this is a waste of time.

But, but who's going to "break it all down" for me?

Obviously, Ordway isn't a far better host because he didn't get the ratings. Radio hosts are measured on ratings and Ordway doesn't have them.

If this was still 1999, Ordway would be a far better host. His act is old and tired. Talking over callers and other hosts, putting on moronic caller just to make yourself look smarter, endless beating to death low hanging fruit topics, and his general smugness is not what people want anymore. He literally has become Eddie Andelman.

I seriously doubt Ordway could be successful in most markets today. His style of radio is outdated. He is best off moving to the west coast of Florida and working on a radio station there where the audience skews far older.

On the topic of low hanging fruit, will WEEI in general ever learn that most people don't want to hear days on these "hot button" topics of non-sports related sports issues. That is a huge reason why they are getting creamed in the ratings. 98.5 for all their warts don't really beat topics to death.

GFY & the horse you rode in on!

I think Felger and Mazz are better hosts in general because whether you agree with them or not, their show is just run better. But ratings are how hosts are judged. Felger and Mazz give the audience what they want and obviously Ordway isn't. That is what makes a good host.

Wow! They must have a bonus that using as leverage or something that they feel will keep him from going nuclear on the station. Usually, they don't let fired hosts on the air because they can be wild cards.

God, this must be what it felt like to be an American on VJ Day...I feel badly to some degree when anyone loses her/his job, but this obnoxious, pompous gasbag got just what he deserved. As an addendum, just for the record, I think Felger and Mazz suck more.

First, Felger and Mazz haven't been winning every season, and they're lousy hosts.

Second, host quality is not a direct tie to ratings. You know this, which is why your post was so ridiculous.

Long overdue. Before 98.5 come on the air WEEI was the only sports station on Boston (beside 1510 the zone when it was on the air was not very competitive) Big O has always been loud, obnoxious, host who constantly talks over the listeners with his know it all attitude. When you're the only game in town that will fly with the listeners. When people have the choice they will switch. I don't agree with everything Felger said but I enjoy listening to him. 98.5 is just a better station.

Lastly WEEI has too much red sox talk.

Here is the run down of what the talk about all year.

January-April: Red sox training camp talk. More talk about the upcoming season.

May-September: Red sox talk. All day every day.

October-December: Talk about the previous season, what they can do this off season, take calls from the listeners about their half baked red sox trades and signings.

Yeah, WEEI won in the spring when there were quite a few day baseball games. Otherwise, Felger and Mazz have won their time period. Holley can spin it as the Big Show won that time period all he wants.

As for quality of the hosts, that is subjective. Some people agree with you while others don't. The only way you can really judge a host is on their ratings.

I love Ordway.

This sucks.

If ratings was all that you used, you'd have one host being better in spring and another being better in summer, etc...

Again, you know that's not how it works. You're making a piss poor argument, and you know it.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Your calendar run-down, is at best, an exaggeration and, at worst, simply inaccurate. Other than Holley, I don't like one other host on WEEI. However, any station that runs out Felger and Mazz and Gresh and Zo (except for football season), can't be "much better" than any radio transmission, including the emergency broadcast buzzing messages.

Ratings clearly show that Felger and Mazz are clearly more popular. Again, the ONLY reason why WEEI won afternoons in the spring was because of live Red Sox broadcasts, not the Big Show. Isn't ironic that the only quarter that WEEI has won 3-6 was the one quarter where Ordway and Holley are on the air the least?

As for how you measure them. I say Felger and Mazz are far better by any measurement. Not that they are exceptionally good, but that Ordway is that bad. You disagree. Neither of us are right or wrong based on our opinions. The only measurable way to judge them is rating and Felger and Mazz is ratings. And the ratings show that they are more popular and WEEI gets far better ratings when the Big Show is on hiatus for a baseball game.

WEEI was that way prior to the arrival 98.5. 98.5 (which talks a lot of Pats and Bruins) and the titles by the Celts and Bruins along with the decline in interest in the Sox have forced WEEI to diversify their subjects. They were once very much Red Sox all year round. They are still far heavier on Red Sox than anything else and far more than 98.5, but that is because they are the flagship station of the Sox. They stills kowtow to the team generating the most revenue to the station, but they are more balanced than before.

I am not a huge fan of any of the 98.5 shows, but they are just far better than WEEI stations. Hopefully, the changes at WEEI will make them better than 98.5.

Holley with a competent host could be a good show. Ordway dragged Holley down though. Hopefully, the new guy is a good match for Holley.

Opinion- You can say hosts are terrible or good. Those are opinions.

Fact- Ratings and Sponsorships drive the Radio industry.

My opinion I like Sports Hub better. Only time I listen ti WEEI is when I am in the car and listening to a Red Sox game that doesn't interfere with Bruins or Pats game. And yes I am biased towards Sports Hub because of the way WEEI treated Bruins fans(other than Dale Arnold) and people who like hockey in general before 2010. WEEI treated hockey fans and the game terrible.

EEI spent a lot of time mocking the Bruins and hockey fans in general so when the Bruins became the best team in town again they couldn't be taken seriously with hockey talk. Felger whether he saw the opening, actually really loves hockey, or just because 98.5 is the Bruins flag ship dove in with serious Bruins talk. Then the Bruins win the cup, the Red Sox go in the toilet, the NBA has a lockout, and the Pats are already on 98.5, just killed EEI's ratings. The fact that the Bruins are in beast mode coming out of the NHL lockout didn't help EEI either. I think Ordway is a good radio personality but I can't get over the way he treated Bruins fans, I stopped listening to the Big Show and flipped to 98.5 when that happened. Granted I can only take about an hour or so of Mazz before I tune out, I really enjoy Zolak from 10-2 more than anything on EEI.
