Can the red faced beluga whale be next?
One can only hope.

Interesting. I wonder what they'll do with Michael Holley?

Replacing Ordway was two years too late. Should have dumped him before Felger and Mazz destroyed WEEI's afternoon ratings.

Ironically, Ordway became Eddie Andelman. Like Andelman, he became a radio dinosaur who is out of touch with the listening audience and refused to or were unable to adapt to the changing market.

Whoops - should have read the article first - they said Holley will be paired with his replacement.

BTW, there has been speculation that Dennis and Callahan could be moved to the WRKO due to their rapidly declining ratings. Would make sense since their politics are in sync with that audience and their contracts make them unfirable.

That would be great since I never listed to WRKO (LOL). I wish a sports radio show would get some good sports radio hosts for the morning show. Toucher & Rich are slightly better on talking sports, but it's clear that music and general he-man/frat boy schtick are their first loves. Would love it if either EEI or 98.5 put some Boston sports homers on and let them run wild. I think it would be a great ratings boon for them too. Most people listen to the radio on the way to and from work.

Orway, the 60 plus year old wig wearing blowhard, flirting with young girls whever he could gets his just due today. Like previous poster said, he became a radio fossil like Eddie Andelman.

Dennis will get "Rotillo-ed" next....

well well well..if true, this afternoon should be priceless

That's a very sad commentary on the Boston sports audience. Then again, the success of Felger/Mazz was already making that commentary.

Until WEEI becomes something other than a few minutes of sports talk between commercials it'll remain irrelevant.

Odds are that if he is fired, yesterday was his last day on the air. Rarely to radio stations put fired hosts on the radio.

What are you talking about? They talk sports all the time. They are the go to guys if you want to hear about:

  • Mike Sandusky and Penn State
  • Lance Armstrong and doping
  • Mante Teo and his imaginary girlfriend
  • Gronk's partying (although Zo went overboard with that today)
  • Ray Lewis and deer antller spray
  • Curt Schilling and him conning RI out of millions
  • ARod PED scandal

That's wall to wall sports talk right there. There isn't a radio station who has mastered the non-sports sports talk than WEEI.

Although Felger and Mazz have their warts, it doesn't change the fact that Ordway is a dinosaur who has mailed it in for far too long because he never had any competition.

His fall from elite status to getting canned had little to do with Felger and Mazz per sea. It was he got old, tired, and lazy. Felger and Mazz were just the beneficiaries of weak competition just like Ordway was for over a decade.

If WEEI actually put on good sports talk with good hosts, they might know Felger and Mazz back down. Don't know this new guy. Maybe he will be the guy to do it with Holley.

Felger I can stomach...Gasbaggarotti will NEVER NEVER EVER get a pass from me on anything the rest of his short, smug, little rat mouth life for what he did in the press to the Pats leading up to the 2007 Super Bowl...he's a little fake tough guy with a rat's tail and a rat's face.

Although Felger and Mazz have their warts,

Should have just left it there.

Ordway is a far better host than either Felger or Mazz. As happens in this region with pretty much everything other than the political party in charge of most of it, a few people attack whatever is institutionalized and the idiots pile on. Again, the fact that Felger and Mazz have succeeded as they have is all the evidence you need to damn this region's sportsradio listeners. They should be nothing more than a commercial switch.

Then again, this may be a case of 'careful what you wish for'.

Chad Finn Reports WEEI To Replace Glenn Ordway With Mike Salk

It’s a curious move from that aspect, especially given the continued beatings that the Dennis and Callahan show take in the ratings. It’s apparent that it was much easier to get rid of Ordway (who had already taken a pay cut) than to dump John Dennis and pair Gerry Callahan with someone else.

For some out there, the schadenfreude is flowing. They’ve awaited the day that Ordway fell. The day is here, and I for one, am a bit puzzled by the move, as I have been by many moves made at WEEI since Jeff Brown took over. Behind the scenes, there are unhappy people everywhere at WEEI, and not just the on-air side.

The addition of Salk is an interesting one. He has the local ties, the show he hosts in Seattle is a popular one, but I can’t say I remember a whole lot about him from his time on the airwaves here. I don’t know what style he will bring, though I can guess. (Think: Felger)

You have to think there are other moves coming, though contractual issues with the morning show might force WEEI to hang onto Dennis and Callahan longer than they’d prefer to.

Obviously, Ordway isn't a far better host because he didn't get the ratings. Radio hosts are measured on ratings and Ordway doesn't have them.

If this was still 1999, Ordway would be a far better host. His act is old and tired. Talking over callers and other hosts, putting on moronic caller just to make yourself look smarter, endless beating to death low hanging fruit topics, and his general smugness is not what people want anymore. He literally has become Eddie Andelman.

I seriously doubt Ordway could be successful in most markets today. His style of radio is outdated. He is best off moving to the west coast of Florida and working on a radio station there where the audience skews far older.

On the topic of low hanging fruit, will WEEI in general ever learn that most people don't want to hear days on these "hot button" topics of non-sports related sports issues. That is a huge reason why they are getting creamed in the ratings. 98.5 for all their warts don't really beat topics to death.

BTW, Felger and Mazz do a lot things very well. They keep the show moving. They don't beat topics to death. They keep the grab arse to a minimum. They get rid of a lot of boring banter between hosts and callers that are boring to anyone other than the host and caller. If a caller has a complete diametric opinion, they don't berate or belittle them and do debate civilly. You might not like their opinions (I don't a lot of the time), but from a pure radio host standpoint, they do a pretty good job.
