Anquan Boldin to retire if released?

When did I ever suggest giving Boldin a contract with a ton of guaranteed money?

Then you are naive and it goes back to the point where I said he'd be overpriced.

He just won a championship with the Ravens and hates the Patriots. He's not going to give a discount.

Boldin and Flacco got hot at the right time and figured it out Good for them. His regular season was so so and pretty much comparable to Lloyd's. Good number 2 numbers for both of them though.

Boldin 65-921 4 tds.

Lloyd 74-911 4 tds.

Sure I'd like Boldin for the big play potential he showed throughout the playoffs, but lets not kid ourselves here. Boldin doesn't make us that much better than we were last year.

Austin Collie is broken because he played the slot for Peyton.

Wayne is going strong because his game isn't predicated on speed or elite athleticism. It's about finding creases in coverage and being an elite route runner.

Yes because the whole notion of "he's going well now, so he's going to be great the entire contract" isn't complete fallacy or anything. That's the same kind of logic that would have had us resign Seymour and lost Wilfork.

Welker is a much better receiver than Boldin. It's not a contest.

In the playoffs, Boldin averaged 5.5 catches/ 95 yds/ 17 yds per catch/ 1 TD per game. He carried the team offensively for 2 out the the 4 playoff games making money catches at crucial moments.
Lets understand that we are not comparing stats in a vacuum. NE operates in an up tempo pass first offense that relies on small ball completions, ergo more plays needed/ more opportunity. Baltimore is a run first traditional pro offense so comparing passing statistics is ridiculous. Pats fans need to get over the mentality that 100+ catches shows greatness while 65 catches proves inferior. Boldin has had his 100 catch years early in his career in a pass first offense in Arizona. Now he is in a run first/ lower % vertical strike offense.
Saying Boldin is inferior is ridiculous. The inferior guy just helped carry a team on his shoulders to the promised land. If Boldin is inferior, give me 4 more just like him.

Boldin's inferior. It's not even a close contest. And using one playoff run is ludicrous. Flacco's not better than Rodgers, Brees or Brady just because he won the Super Bowl this year.

First off, watch your tone. It actually is possible to state a disagreement without calling someone "naive" because you disagree with them:mad:

Next, I've never seen any evidence that he hates the Patriots and your stating so doesnt make it fact.

Finally, I wouldnt ask him to take a discount, I'd pay him fair, based on the perceived value he'd bring to the team, therw would certainly need to be some guaranteed money but I wouldnt support gambling huge money on him like the Cardinals did with Fitzgerald. If other teams are throwing crazy money at him then they're welcome to him.

Boldin arguably isn't even the best receiver on his own team, let alone better than a top 5 wideout.

Boldin is a full tier (or two) below Welker.

Why don't you just tell us what you think is fair market value for him.

idk, doesn't really make any sense. Yeah pretty much scratch what I said. Just seems bizarre a top player would retire.

Not the first time. I'm sure there are more recent examples but Barry Sanders and Robert Smith come to mind right now.
