Canty would be a good veteran addition if he's healthy. I doubt he would be asking for a ton of money. No matter what, lets stay away from Corey Webster!

And you likely would be wrong. He falls perfectly under "down year, but quality player someone will gamble on".

I'd be surprised if he doesn't make 5-6 million this season. He's Fanene with more injury problems. At that price? No thanks.

A 5' 8" bow legged cretinous dwarf who's now too old to play?
Oh, different Canty. My bad!

According to Bobby Grier he was only drafted to be a third corner.. what else would you use a first round pick for?

How the hell did Booby Grier get a job as the Pats GM?

Like any of the other potential vet signings, money is going to come heavily into play of course.

If the money can be right, then yes--I'd take a flier on C.Canty on the DL.

Cousin this would be an excellent Vet signing. Because of his medical he should be realistic. An upgrade on Love and Deaderick for sure.

I'm guessing you've not actually watched Chris Canty since 2007 then. Cousin.

Canty is still a better player than Love/Deaderick.

I heard the Giants might be parting ways with Corey Webster. I can see that as a realistic addition.

You just pointed that out to keep the little people naming coincidence sub-thread going

I refer the honourable gentlemen to the post I made yesterday.

Canty sucks. He was decent in Dallas, now he's just a lazy, broken down liability.

It's hard to project who would be a realistic fit and who wouldn't in my opinion.

I think like other years, we'll see the position of DL addressed with some players who we recognize and like, and some players who we think are going to be failures and who we don't like.

Money is always an issue, so that's certainly going to be one of the main aspects.

Hopefully we see another DL player or two taken in the draft also.

I'm not a huge fan of Canty, but if the price is right Belichick could bring him in, along with a lot of other guys in his class, price and experience wise.

Quite possibly.

Then again, if he were that good we wouldn't be talking about potentially bringing him in for competition either, so that's something to keep in mind. It's all about trying to hit on these kinds of vet players who may still have something to offer on some level. While we all want guys like this to be instantly looked over, it's just not realistic.

I think that for a lot of these guys the name may be wrong, but the idea of that particular class may be right. We could certainly use another vet DT who could add rotational/depth reps and possibly offer 3-4 sacks next season for sure.

The key of course, will be the specific salary situation and the injury concerns, along with scheme experience and obviously talent. Canty may not be a good fit for those reasons, but we can certainly expect a cap casualty vet or roster cut or two (or three) to be brought in along the same kind of mold as Chris Canty.

Unfortunately, since it's the offseason, we'll likely have to discuss about a million of these kinds of signings.
