The new norm: winning inspite of the refs and drops

This has been the one thing that always bothered me. There should be blowouts in the Super Bowl

Gambling is a HUGE biz.

Let the Pats go to the superbowl again, or, make history with 2 brothers?... hmmmm

Ratings and gambling are huge for all sports.

The fix is in!

JUST for the sake of argument, (haha) ;lets say the AFCCG was fixed for the Ravens. then which were the events that swayed the game?

- which calls by the refs changed the game?
- was welker in on it? or Brady?

and PS have you noticed that there are a lot of family deaths amongst and player deaths in the news. i dont hve a catalog of them, but there seem prevalent. could players be receiving threatening "messages" to play a certain way. certainly not unthinkable......

I think a big part of it for me is I'm frustrated and maybe I'm a sore loser. I'm still not sure that Ridley fumble was truly a fumble. I don't remember everything exactly but I want to say there was a pass interference call on us that they probably should have let go. On the flip side, there were some calls that weren't made that we should have got.

The Ravens were holding on both sides of the ball the entire game and nobody cared.

In my opinion the games aren't called consistently once you hit the championship games and the super bowl. He other factor is that emotion and energy play a bigger part T that level and can trump a more skilled opponent.

I do think all the close super bowls recently are pretty fishy.

This is another thing that baffles me about people like you. What you're saying simply makes no sense.

If the NFL wanted to fix the outcome for maximum ratings, the Ravens are the LAST team they would have gone with. Nobody (outside ESPN) gave a crap about the coaches being brothers. They would have wanted Denver-NE in the AFCCG and either one of those choices would have been better than Baltimore in the Super Bowl.

There's nothing I can say to you that will change your mind...you KNOW it's all on the level

I say to you I was a fan of the NCAA wrestler Brock Lesnar-(the NFL pre 2000)

I say I am still a fan of the WWE wrestler Brock Lesnar (the NFL post 1999)

you still go beserk accosting me with "that's a horrible analogy!!!!!"...WTF is it with you??? you must be the "I'm always 100% right about everything and if you disagree anything you say is horrible!!!!" internet Einstein.

Believe what you want...99% of the educated ruling classes of Europe believed the earth was flat in 1450.....and used the exact same denunciation YOU just gave me.
Another horrible analogy, which only further demonstrates the bankrupcy of your contention (not to mention that your analogy is 100% false; people in the 1400's knew the Earth was round).

Thing is, you obviously aren't even understanding what I am saying. I'm not saying I am right and you are wrong (even though that is certainly the case). What I'm saying is: If you're right and the games are rigged, why are you even bothering to watch them and be a fan of the league in the first place?

That's a question no one in here has answered yet, even though I have asked it several times.

Prove to me that sports aren't rigged. Good luck with that one bucko...
You're asking me to prove a negative. That alone shows your dubious hold on standards of logic and evidence.
and Pete Rose is a saint too.
Pete Rose gambled on games in which he participated. You will not find anyone argue more vehemently than me that he deserves his lifetime banishment.
You probably believe everything that you hear on tv. Those late night infomercials love you.
And the tin foil hat makers love you.

I only wish you were alive and running your mouth in the 1400's...I'd enjoy listening to your screams as you were burned at the stake for heresy.Myself, I'd take the same path that Copernicus and Galileo took and keep my mouth shut about any geocentric arguments that run counter to the holy mother church.

you must be a sub-mongoloid in a meat suit.....why do people watch?...because the NFL is entertaining.

People watch events because they are entertained by them....how many times does this need to be repeated before your get it, Rufus? I guess we should all "not bother" and just do things exactly like YOU, the moron dictator of absolute certainties, demands.

No foolin', and there are idiots alive today who think we have never stepped foot on the moon. There are also idiots around today who think the folks in the Middle Ages believed the Earth was flat.

You said "99% of the educated ruling classes of Europe believed the earth was flat in 1450." That statement is 100% untrue. Don't get mad at me when all I did was accurately call out your ignorance.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myth_of_the_Flat_Earth

"The idea that educated men at the time of Columbus believed that the earth was flat, and that this belief was one of the obstacles to be overcome by Columbus before he could get his project sanctioned, remains one of the hardiest errors in teaching."

"The myth that people in the Middle Ages thought the earth is flat appears to date from the 17th century as part of the campaign by Protestants against Catholic teaching."

Son, you really need professional help.
Myself, I'd take the same path that Copernicus and Galileo took and keep my mouth shut about any geocentric arguments that run counter to the holy mother church.
Galileo was charged with heresy for saying the Earth was not the center of the universe. Everyone knew the Earth was round.

What is so entertaining about watching a competition with a pre-determined outcome? Why come in here and discuss what happened, and stats and stuff.

Seriously, like I said. Get some help, son.

How do you account for the fact that if the NFL were fixed there would be so many people involved that someone would have spoken up by now, especially the players that were 'forced' to lose.

Did you really just try to slip in Wiki as your source? :bricks:

Ok, let's take a look at why that's a bad idea....

However Tattersall shows that in many vernacular works in 12th and 13th century French texts the Earth was considered "round like a table" rather than "round like an apple". "In virtually all the examples quoted...from epics and from non-'historical' romances (that is, works of a less learned character) the actual form of words used suggests strongly a circle rather than a sphere.[111]

Portuguese exploration of Africa and Asia, Columbus's voyage to the Americas (1492) and finally Ferdinand Magellan's circumnavigation of the Earth (1519–21) provided the final, practical proofs for the global shape of the Earth.

How come whenever someone comes up here from The Dump, the thread that they post in always turns into a pissing contest?

My thoughts exactly there is toooo much at stake for either side to have it dictated by some "higher authority".. can you imagine all the folks who would have to conspire to make this true.. too many folks have to stay silent.

If there was a scientific way of determining all the non call and blow calls, would suspect that it would be close to even..

The Ravens held, the Patriots held, the Ravens interfered and the Patriots interfered... when there are non calls we all like to say that the refs let the players play, when we lose and we believe that there are non calls then we cry conspiracy...

In our game, 4 turnovers did us in along with not being able to score in the red zone.. the refs had little to do with it, our team did not execute when it mattered most.

He's assuming that the refs are doing it, and not the teams. Still a pretty shoddy hypothesis either way, though.

I remember when opposing teams used to cry that the NFL was rigged when we would beat them in the playoffs. My how the tables have turned...

+1 +1 +1. The conspiracy theorists are too stupid to realize their theories just don't make sense.

1) IF the NFL wanted to rig the outcome of the game, they would NEVER have made it Baltimore. Denver-New England would have been a much better AFCCG with either one of those teams a much better pick for the Super Bowl.

2) IF the NFL rigged the winner of the CCG's why bother rigging the Super Bowl? By then all monies are delivered.

3) IF the NFL rigged games and was caught, it would cease to exist as a league. People would go to jail and lose BILLIONS. Why in the world would they risk so much with so little to gain?

It would be like playing a game of blackjack where you wager your house and your car and all your life's savings on one single hand, but if you won you would only win 5 measly bucks. Is that really a risk/reward payout that people would be comfortable with??!?

Rigging is unlikely to be league driven. Like soccer, it probably exists as refs encouraged to make calls in a certain way to get an over

That's an entirely different ball of wax. I don't think it is happening, but I wouldn't be surprised if some ref out there was pulling a Tim Donaghy. However, that is light years away from the notion that the league itself is fixing games.

(I neither know nor care what is going on in the world of soccer so I cannot speak to that analogy)

A rigged game wouldn't come down to one final play.

A rigged game wouldn't come down to one final play.
Excellent point..!! And one I have made in the past. :D

People often look at crazy, ridiculous endings as "proof" that a game is rigged, especially when that crazy, ridiculous ending shifts the team that covers the point spread. The December Eagles-Cowboys game comes to mind, when an Eagles returned a punt 90+ yards with 30 seconds to go to lose the game by 5 instead of 12 (thus covering the spread).

If that outcome really was rigged, it would have never gotten to that point.
