The non-call on the 4th Down Hold

Is it me or was that a HORRENDOUS, EPIC terrible non-call?

I have friends telling me that you need to let the players play and the refs made the right decision. That the Ravens outplayed them and the Niners play calling on the last drive was bad, so it was kind of OK that the zebra swallowed his whistle.

I think my friends are nuts. Like totally nuts.

I say the critical missed call was the illegal hit to Crabtree's helmet on third down, which would have given the 49ers a first down and the ball inside the 5. They could have ran there, killed the clock and the game would have been over.

That was absolutely a hold, there is no doubt about it. At the expense of sounding bitter or whiny, it’s BS that it almost SURELY would’ve been called versus us, that’s for damn sure. But it wasn’t called there? Give me a break

Amazing all year the call everything on helmet to helmet hit, but on the final drive of the season they let it go.

The officials were clearly afraid to make the obvious call. Reed was also lined up offside on the two point conversion. The side judge on that side of the field during the second half was terrible.

That's the problem. The Ravens' DBs two weeks ago as well as Culliver tonight got away with tons of contact. What's the rationale for different rules? The refs affect enough games to change playoff seedings in the regular season, so why do we want them to sit there and watch in the playoffs?

If your not gonna make that call, then you can't make the one they made when Torrey Smith got held on 3rd down.

Then again, early on they didn't make a call against SF on a deep throw down the right sideline to Smith that could of been a TD.

But thats how it typically goes in big games, Refs swallow their whistles.

The poll results thus far restore my faith in football humanity.

My two friends claiming that it was the right non-call are so into being non-homers that they lose their minds on a regular basis.

I think at the end of the day and when it's the last game of the season being shown world wide, the league and it's refs are more afraid of making a bad call than a non call. This game was set up with a crew chief if not crew that didn't get there for the right reasons. Bogger was jerryrigged into this game by Ray Anderson clearing all the dings off his in season record on appeal. Otherwise Jerome never sniffs a superbowl or even a post season gig this year. Non or missed calls are easier to dismiss than overtly blown calls from a referee grading standpoint. This crew was crap top to bottom. How the hell does that zebra that got pushed not drop his own flag? Only by sheer determination not to rock anyone's boat.

In many ways SF saved the league's ass on this game by making it one in the second half. Otherwise all they'd have talked about was how poorly this stinker was officiated. Sadly SF ultimately had the Lombardi within reach and just threw it away, literally.

I think it was the right call. The ball is on the five yard line, the DB gets five yards to check the receiver. I think the receiver initiated the contact, the DB wasn't trying to stop the receiver from getting to the corner, to me it looked like the receiver was trying to push off, then saw the ball going the other way & tried to run through the DB who had every right to be where he was.

What bugs me about this one is that our NE secondary would get 10 flags if they did what Jimmy Smith did on that play. So biased.....

They made the right call by calling nothing. They've been letting the DBs and WRs be physical all night. At least they kept it consistent.

Culliver's PI on Smith on an earlier drive was WAY too obvious to let it go so they called that one.
