I'd like if we could find a happy medium for these shows. It's either new pop music or classic rock music. A friend said the other day the perfect band to do a halftime show would be Red Hot Chili Peppers, and after thinking about it I am inclined to agree. I don't love the Chili Peppers, I am not even a big enough fan to download their music. But I've never heard a "hit" song of theirs I didn't enjoy. Their music is varied enough to have a pretty broad appeal. I don't know, I think they'd be good.

They might be pretty good, actually.

Personally, I'd love to see Muse. Or maybe Muse circa 2004-2006. I saw them in 2006 and it was a hell of a show. They know how to do spectacle and I like their music, but they're not quite recognizable here on this side of the pond, unfortunately.

Nothing will ever top Prince.

I honestly can't even remember most of the half time performances even though I know i havent missed one in the last 10 years.

But the prince one is burned in my memory. Great performance.

Worst=Madonna. I don't care if she was hurt or not, it was lacking for me.

Man, I remember that U2 one. My dad (an ex-Marine) and I watched that game together. I was 15 at the time. My dad HATES Bono. Can't stand him. But I remember after watching Bono open his jacket and show the flag with the symbolic towers collapsing in the background, I looked over at my dad and he had tears running down his face. That was the greatest. Nothing will ever top that.

Paul McCartney was my favorite...the guy still has it

His rendition of Cut Me Some Slack with Grohl, Novoselic & Pat Smear kicks serious ass.

Edit: AC/DC should have played a SB by now. Enough of the Beyonce/Madonna/Fergie garbage.

You dould listen to more music. :)

I'm not even a big fan of U2. I enjoy their hits, but I made the mistake of buying that album "Beautiful Day" was on and thought most of it was crap. But that Super Bowl show, for me and everyone in the sports bar in Omaha that night, was simply amazing.

That would be great. I'm not exactly sure how they might sound today. Every once in a while, when the wife is out, I crank up the surround on their "Live at Donnington" DVD. Nice.

Haha, last time my wife was out I put on the Led Zep DVD Celebration Day (concert of the 2007 reunion show). When the wife and kid are out it's the only time the music can be played loud. Hopefully they go out shopping today!

Me too. Wasn't a dry eye in the house. It still gives me goosebumps watching it on DVD. I try to explain it to my kids, and i just can't capture it for 'em.

i

Great picture! Greatest Super Bowl halftime moment ever, right there.

1. U2
2. Prince
3. The Boss

Nip slip gets honorable mention

Saw ACDC about 4 or 5 years ago.

It was cheesy. But fantastic.

such a guilty pleasure.

U2 was the only one that had any meaning. They're really all a bunch of over-produced fluff done for the TV cameras. I've been to four Super Bowls and got nothing out of the halftime shows -- Janet, McCartney, Petty (awful), Madonna. Meh.

When they opened with "Beautiful Day"…it really got everyone in the mood. Nobody knew the tears would flow with MLK and Where the Streets…

Kind of weird hearing "After the flood, all the colors came out" in Beautiful Day in New Orleans only a few short years before Katrina.

I was at SB 36 and I guess u2 was good. But I was so keyed up that I spent the half time mostly getting beer and going to the bathroom. I saw part of U2's show but I remember almost nothing about it. The Pats were winning the SB!!!! I'll go to a rock concert and really enjoy it some other time...

I've been lucky enough to go to 4 Patriots SBs....the half time show was the least important aspect to me of all of them.

And I'm still pissed at Janet Jackson's left breast for being a bigger story on the morning after SB 38 than the game itself!

I was only pissed that Janet Jackson's left breast wasn't bigger!

lol. Everyone knows U2's last good album & tour was back in 1992. Achtung Baby & Zoo Station Tour. Even Bono snickers about "Beautiful Day" getting a Grammy nod.

U2 had a great 13 year run 1979-1992...

Boy
October
War
Unforgettable Fire
Joshua Tree
Achtung Baby

Live albums- Under A Blood Red Sky & Rattle And Hum

They jumped the shark in 93/94 with the Zooropa album & Pop Mart Tour. Gotta be wary anyway of anyone who says "I like their hits" when speaking about a musical artist anyway. That's a phrase novices use.
