Here we go...

Ravens safety Ed Reed has all the respect in the world for Bill Belichick, and that sentiment is well-known to be mutual.

So could Reed, who is scheduled to be a free agent this offseason, see himself playing for Belichick some day?

"Yeah, oh yeah, man, I could definitely play for coach Belichick," Reed responded. "He is a great coach. I'm sure he can help me to expand my football knowledge even more as a player and as a coach, so if I'm ever able to be around him, just like I was at the Pro Bowl, it's huge. It's the reason why I wear my sweater cut off a little bit. He's the first guy I saw like, 'That's cool.' You know, that's cool. He cuts those sweater sleeves, and he'll be comfortable. So there's a reason why. Most people will tell you around the facility that's how I look.

It's just a blessing to even have met, to know coach Belichick."

After the Ravens lose in the Super Bowl, I could definitely see Reed playing for BB too.

I suddenly really like Ed Reed.

But Ed do you 2/10M like him?

I didn't think so.

lol he is so full of it

I haven't been big into the notion of signing Reed (due to a combination of cost and age), but I'm not averse to being talked into it.

Sign on for vet minimum, Mr. Reed, and it can happen lickety split.

Make it happen!! :rocker:

And BB will even throw in a bunch of Ground Round Gift Certificates.

Sounds like he's made up his mind.

I think it's flabbergasting that he's talking about this before the superbowl. That can't be going over well in the Ravens lockerroom now.

yes please!!

Leaving aside the money issue, this guy talks so positively of BB, even down to his fashion choices and he's a Raven. That's astonishing enough for me.

Reed needs to debate Suggs.

Can he give us just one year of good play left in his tank at age 35? That's all we would need out of him. Give us a legit safety duo in Reed/McCourty and maybe pass some wisdom down to Wilson/Ebner.

A secondary of Talib/Dennard and Reed/McCourty is too good to be true.

After getting lambasted daily in the media by the likes of Sharpe, Faulk, King, etc. , BB could sure benefit from some love and appreciation from the likes of Ed Reed. Players admire BB. Media hates BB. But you cant win against the media because they hold the ultimate power.

yeah..pats won't pay what he wants..especially for his age

Yes, it certainly would be but could we afford to keep Talib IF we did end up sighing Reed? Seems like Talib will test the waters in search for a bigger contract.

I guess we'll see.

I'm assuming we would only sign him on the cheap/discount like Lloyd. The Ravens won't be able to sign him (15 million in cap room but Flacco will certainly take all of that) I don't know why a building team would want him either at age 35.

Bill isn't as inclined to squeeze his binkies quite as much as some perceive him to be. He signed Rodney to a 5/$16M almost sight unseen, and that was back when the cap was $74M and Reed hadn't reset the bar at the position and we had guys like Ty with double digit cap hits in the secondary. I remember at the time a lot of folks predicted it was an overpay and he'd never seen the end of the deal. Now I'm not so sure Ed would stick out a deal if it wasn't. But then again if he wants to coach...and play under BB before he does... Heck, Ozzie has already offered him a coaching job any time he's ready. What he won't offer him is another deal to his liking. Sometimes guys are happy with less in these situations from a new team than they'd take from the team they feel has disrespected them.

Ed seems to think he can play at a high level for a couple of more seasons. If Bill agrees he won't nickle and dime him. He has long regretted his decision to pass on Reed in the draft. This would represent his last shot at coaching him and fielding a secondary with him in it. Bill may love his linebackers and DLinemen, but when he coached the pro bowl in 2006 he told Reed that if he had him and Champ that's all he'd need...all.
