In Super Bowl media day's first bombshell, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Randy Moss called himself the greatest wide receiver of all-time.

"I don't live off numbers," Moss said, noting he has had down years, including this year, his time in Oakland, and before he first retired. "I live off impact. So I really do think that I'm the greatest receiver to play this game."

Hall of fame receiver Jerry Rice, via Adam Schefter, responded saying, "Put my numbers up against his numbers."​

Big whoop. By this date next year, our 24 year old TE will have matched or EXCEEDED those 4 year Patriots numbers of Moss.

As a fan of Tom Brady, I can understand why Jerry Rice is laughing.

but when it comes to an entire career and looking at constant production, Jerry Rice is on top and to say randy is even close is just plain nuts.

It's nice that Randy averaged scoring 12 touchdowns a year over 4 consecutive years,

Jerry Rice averaged scoring 11 touchdowns a year over 16 consecutive years, 1986-2002 (not counting the 1997 season he lost to injury).

This is my take. I mean, you have Wes Welker breaking records over here and you have Megatron breaking records over there and Moss breaking that record over there. Three different type receivers with one thing in common: Their records were all formerly held by Rice.

As a Pats fan, I have to correct you: Montana had the benefit of playing with Rice, the best receiver ever, most of his career while Brady only had Moss, the second best receiver, for two whole years. Just sayin'.

Once again, a 24 year old kid next year will complete a matching (or exceeding) of Moss' 4 year Brady numbers. And the kid is a far better blocker than Moss ever was.

In fact, Randy Moss is the THIRD best WR Brady ever threw to.

Check any stats you want. Head to head (other than TDs' - - and yes, that is a big one I agree) Welker out performed Moss over the 4 years they were teammates.

Same 4 Years Catching from Brady:

Moss: 259 Rec 3,904 Yds 50 TD
Welker: 432 Rec 4,536 Yds 22 TD

And Welker fielded punts.

Well the 24 year old kid, if he is healthy enough to have a long career may be the GOAT at his position.

Rice is the GOAT but Moss in his prime was the most devastating receiver to play the game. I would compare him to Lawrence Taylor in that regard. Other LB's had longer careers with better numbers but no LB ever played at the level he played at. Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders would be another example.

It would actually be an interesting exercise to come up with an all time team based on the most impactful players.

It's his OWN fault that he missed the last 3/4's of his 4th year here.

That happened to be the same year Welker played a full season 7 months out from an ACL AND MCL tear. That year for Welker is also included in the 4 year comparisons to Moss. That wouldn't have handicapped Welker's numbers some that year?

Spare me about the greatness of Randy Moss. He WAS great. The 3rd greatest WR or TE Brady ever threw to.

Rice has 4 rings. Moss is a Ringless Wonder.

Now if you want to state that Randy Moss was the most TALENTED WR ever to play, then there would be a good argument to be made for that.

He burned his way out of Minnesota. He burned his way out of Oakland. He burned his way out of NE. And today at SB Media Day he pulled this crap 'I hate the way I'm being used by the Niners'.
