Why do people want Brandon Lloyd cut?

As in the title. Why? Lloyd had over 900 yards this year. He has a low cap hit compared to a lot of other receivers. People are talking like he is our worst receiver. I just don't get it. Is it because he doesn't get good yac? People seem to think that he sucks.

He doesn't suck. Some people just want "someone better" -- faster and more explosive -- in his role. Just like they want "someone better" than Tom Brady. A lot of ignorant children post in this forum, you'll learn who they are over time.

Considering our 2nd best outside receiver currently is Deion Branch, I think people wanting Lloyd cut are pretty silly. Even if you DON'T re-sign Welker, you're not getting TWO receivers better than Lloyd on the outside in this FA class. So let's focus on getting one to upgrade Branch and not worry about Lloyd.

I have seen two schools of though going around regarding this one makes sense the other doesnt.

the Illogicall people think he wasnt the deep threat explosive talent they expected and will ignore the production he actually put up because they want the the explosive player. This to me makes no sense as they are not mutually exclusive and your team is actually better if you got both and if you went with one instead of the other there is no guarentee it will actually produce better results.

The logical people dont neccessarily see a problem with his play but see a bonus option due and see a way to save some cap money. Which could in theory be used in a better way.

At this point in time I do not fall into either category as I think we should keep Lloyd as he gives us a skill set we dont have and threatens an area of the field few on this team do. I would slightly reconsider the cap free up if I knew Wes were going to be back but even still I would like Lloyd back.

Hey, if Edelman could steal some of that shadow action maybe he'd be able to stay on the field more than a minute.

4. People are frustrated and looking for scapegoats

We've got people who want to ship out Welker. We've got people who are bashing Brady. We've had people bringing the "Get rid of the _______ coach" chestnuts out. It's all just noise. Use it to kill time in the offseason, or find something to do until free agency starts, because this place probably isn't going to get much more rational in the near future.

Lloyd IS the upgrade to Branch going forward.....and a damn huge upgrade for that role.

Now, let's leverage Brian Daboll to bring Dwayne Bowe over as the deep threat and that offense is all set for next year (maybe a mid-round OT pick as a Solder/Vollmer backup - - move Canon to solely being a roadgrading guard backup with Thomas for Mankins/Connolly)

Who are "people"? It's one thing for people to say they want an upgrade, another to say to outright cut the guy as if a superior solution was already on the roster.

I would welcome someone similar or better than Lloyd to play on the opposite side.

I'm disappointed by Lloyd -- compared to what I expected of him entering the season.

But his contract is still good relative to his production, so he's not getting cut unless something changes (ie he turns into 2010 moss)

Lloyd is a victim of expectations. Many people expected him to be the 1,400 plus receiver he was in 2010 or something close to it. If Edelman put up the numbers Lloyd did, people would be talking about letting Welker go and replacing him with Edelman.

He is not going anywhere though. His salary is relatively cheap for a starting WR. He is a solid #2 WR (people are judging him as a #1 WR deep threat WR). He picks up a lot of first downs and his average YPC is second highest on the team of players who caught 40 or more balls. He is currently the only outside threat they have.

Lloyd doesn't do anything on Special Teams - - Edelman is a Special Teams ace and a far better Special Teamer than Welker..

Getting rid of Lloyd is just plain silly. One guy I know always comments that Lloyd always seems to be falling over while he catches the ball. Rarely does he catch the ball and stay on his feet. I've noticed that more and more myself, but the fact remains that he is still an effective receiver.

Our offense was the number one offense in the league. The offense is not the problem. Sure, I'm in favor of finding ways to improve it, but by getting rid of your 900 yard receiver who seemed more effective as the season went along IS NOT THE ANSWER.

Great point, which boggles my mind, too. You would actually think he would be the BENFICIARY of expectations. After all, I would think that he would naturally be compared to Ocho from the year before in which it would be rather tough to NOT exceed expectations.

Brandon Lloyd had more receptions, yards, and as many TDs as Larry Fitzgerald this season, and I saw Fitzgerald playing in the Pro Bowl on Sunday. Therefore, Lloyd can't be as bad as people make him out to be.

I think, Rob, that peoples hate for Lloyd stem from his perceived lack of effort.
