Joe Flacco came up big at the best possible time. As he heads into unrestricted Free agency I'll be very interested to see the haul he gets. Apparently he was asking for $17M/Yr last year  and now some think he can fetch $20M/Yr over the life of a new deal   There's no way the Ravens can let him go after this playoff run so they're gonna have to overpay him. The quetion is how much will they have to overpay him???

"He's now made a case for $20 million a year," Clayton said on SportsCenter Monday. "And I think he's gonna try to hold to that. Last season what I was hearing was he was asking for about $17 million. ... (We'll) see if he can get over Drew Brees' contract. I think he can." Mortensen agrees that an annual $20 million is "not unreachable" for the Ravens' quarterback. It would be a ludicrous sum of money for a player with Flacco's solid but unspectacular regular-season résumé, but his dominating postseason and barren state of the QB position around the league have left him with leverage to spare. If Flacco is intent on playing $20 million hardball, the Ravens may opt to slap him with the $14.642 million franchise tag.

I doubt it. Most of the biggest deals have come as a result of the Salary Cap getting bigger. Its been static for a year or two now, and Flacco is nowhere near as good as Brees, so my guess is that his deal is going to be significantly smaller.

Frankly, if he gets anything near Brees' contract, I think most of it'll be funny money on the back end that he'll never see.

I would love it if the Ravens overspend on Flacco , this would mean the would be short of money to strengthen their defense :D .

If he wants 20 million a year, the Ravens can let him go and I bet most fans would understand.

That said, I'm hoping he asks for 20 million and the Ravens give it to him.

I don't understand QB deals. "He's made a case for 20 million a year", he's not a top 10 QB, let alone elite.

Honestly he has a top 5 offensive line, a top 5 running back and his receivers make him. He throws so many jump balls that they go and get. He cannot consistently read defense and prolong drive. That doesn't even go into how good his defense has been during his time there. I would tag him if I was the Ravens not just this coming year but the one after if need be. The danger is of course his leverage in a hold out is more than most players given his position.

Lot of similarities between Eli and Flacco , Their defenses carry the team on their back and all the QB has to do in the Playoffs is throw the ball anywhere he feels like and then see his WR magically appear out of nowhere to catch the ball and then ask for 20 Freakin mill . How embarrassing would it be if he took 20 mill and did not make the playoffs next year?

I'm with Flacco on this. I think he should definitely hold out for Drew Brees type money. Hell, he should demand for a deal like Peyton's.

And I really, really, really, really hope that the Ravens give it to him.

I hope he asks the Ravens for 25 million a season.

0 INT's this postseason while leading the Ravens to a Super Bowl appearance. He has them by the you-know-what now (I'm at work). They probably should have paid him after last season. Oh well. That's too bad for them.

This... The Ravens should contact all the other NFL teams and see if they would like Flacco on their team as a starting QB, i am pretty sure everybody excpet 2-3 teams will say "HECK NO", The Ravens should then forward those answers to Falcco and his agent and then maybe Flacco will reduce the asking amount from 20 to 12-13

If the franchise tag is $14M it makes sense for the Ravens to put the tag on Flacco every year that is possible

It seems the franchise tag for QBs is in the range of 17-18 mill this coming nfl season.

Well, If I were the Ravens G.M. I'd still tag him.

Why give him 20 mil long term? Next season he'd surely drop a few notches.

They should probably trade him and bring in Alex smith. He is a game manager just like Flacco. And i am pretty sure he will be available for around 10 mill.

He's not elite but I'm sure there are five to eight teams that would happily take a qb who has demonstrated the ability to win on the road in the playoffs. The ravens can't screw around. If he holds out who are they going to play at qb? It's not like this team will have ray Lewis and Ed reed in their primes to carry the team.

Show him the money!!

That old and slow defense crapped all over the Pats and held them to 13 pts in the biggest game of the year at home?;)

He won't be the first QB to make a lot of money off of the Patriots defense.

That is my point, why spend 20 mill on a QB who depends on the RB and the defense to bail out the team, when yo can spend the same amount of money to get good D players
