Re: Salary Cap - $18.6Mil for NE

With just $4 Mil of cap space and no first round draft picks until sometime next century, I imagine that Dan Snyder is hoping that RGIII's surgery was successful. ;)

Re: Salary Cap - $18.6Mil for NE

look at all the space cleveland and cincy and indy have. How'd they do that? Must be a lot of good players on their teams becoming UFAs?

Sign Hartline, Jarius Byrd, Edelman, Talib and rookies and let vollmer and welker go. That's about all they can do.

Knew it was a big mistake signing mankins to a huge contract. They didn't miss much when he was out.

Re: Salary Cap - $18.6Mil for NE

anyone have any idea if the Fanene 3.5 Mill is gone? Or is that still a pending decision?

I wonder if Cleveland would make a run at Wes Welker. They have Josh Gordon as a deep threat and Trent Richardson running the ball. They need a TE and a slot guy....and possibly a QB but WW would help Weeden's development. Their defense is pretty solid.

Re: Salary Cap - $18.6Mil for NE

LOL @ The Cardinals. Whoa @ Cincy and Miami.

Re: Salary Cap - $18.6Mil for NE

So how does this all work with the new CBA? Aren't all NFL teams supposed to spend to 98% of the cap?

bahahahahaha.

As for
Baltimore $1.2M $15.7M
Flacco is asking for far more than 15.7M per year.

They're welcome to him, at 9M a year or whatever he wants. Not sure how they got all that room, I thought the rule was you had to spend a minimum % of the cap, like 80% or something.

Jake Long will take a chunk of that Miami money. Hartline will probably stay as they have the dollars.

I have no idea what that $18.6M number means for NE. What is the source, and at what point in time was it published? How many players were signed for 2013 when that number was published?

Jason's latest numbers from NYJetsCap.com for the Pats lists 52 players signed. That doesn't include Jason Vega, nor guys whom the Pats still retain contractural rights to such as Myron Pyror and Tony Fiammetta. I don't know if it factors in the recent bonuses that were reported a few days ago. Jason's number is that those 52 players have a cap hit of $105,402,517. In addition, he lists a dead money hit for 2013 of $4,516,196, which brings the total to just under $110M.

Add in the additional contracts, and I'm guessing we're currently around $10M under the estimated $121M 2013 cap. I'm certainly no capologist, and could be wrong. But roughly $10M doesn't seem like a lot of space given the following unsigned players:

- WR Wes Welker
- OT Sebastian Vollmer
- CB Aqib Talib
- RB Danny Woodhead
- WR/KR Julian Edelman
- CB Kyle Arrington
- CB Marquise Cole
- OL Donald Thomas
- TE Jake Ballard (RFA)
- LB Dane Fletcher (RFA)

Supposedly, the word down in Miami is that they may let Long walk this offseason. Injury history as well as fit within the blocking scheme may make him expendable to the Dolphins.

From that site:

As New England enters the 2013 season I have them estimated around $16.1 million in cap room which ties in with the John Clayton cap report of $18.6 million from a few weeks ago. Clayton’s numbers did not include futures contracts or the salary escalators earned by certain players that are just now being accrued by the league. I like to translate these figures into real numbers so there are some adjustments to take into account. Every team is charged $504,000 at the beginning of free agency for workout payments expected to be earned. Teams also need to set aside money for rookie payments. The Patriots hold the 29th slotted pick in rounds 1-3 as well round 7. They also have the Buccaneers 7th round draft pick. Those 5 selections should cost the team a total of $3,311,620 in cap dollars in 2013 with a high of $1,312,918 for their first round pick all the way down to $416,898 assuming no dramatic changes in the calculations. In terms of net cap space that amounts to about $1.69 million as the draft picks replace the bottom of the current roster. For 2014 the total cost should be $4,065,685, which is also the net figure. So realistically before tenders for RFA’s or franchise players the Patriots as of today are looking at a real cap figure of $14 million with $110.5 million for ¾ of a roster in 2014.

Re: Salary Cap - $18.6Mil for NE

Miami being 35.8 mil under is a mirage. They have Jake Long, Randy Starks, Reggie Bush, Sean Smith, Chris Clemons, Anthony Fasano, and Brian Hartline all as FAs.

The only three teams that can do what they please are the Browns, Colts, and Bengals. The Bengals and Colts are the most interesting. The Bengals get Kirkpatrick back from IR, have one 1st and two 2nds, along with a ton of cap room. If Dalton shows another year of improvement the Bengals have the AFCN. The Colts could really bolster their OL and get a solid defense for Luck.

Re: Salary Cap - $18.6Mil for NE

Give Welker a contract with a couple of years to it, re-structure Mankins, and the team is alright money wise.

Re: Salary Cap - $18.6Mil for NE

If I were Miami, I would think long (ha!) and hard about that decision.
Long and his agent know that Miami is flush with cash.

Speculation is that Miami will let him go.

As well they probably should. Long isn't/won't be worth whatever he gets contract-wise.
