Physical vs Finesse: which players or positions need an upgrade?
By: John Morgan

Fans of the Patriots are constantly told that the team is 'too finesse' and needs to be 'more physical'. Personally I find those terms rather cliché and nebulous, but let's just say that we want the team to upgrade and improve (i.e., become more physical)...

It would make for a more interesting discussion if "finesse" were replaced with "speed." Everyone wants to be more physical, but no one wants slower players. It's kind of like defensive coaches saying they want to be "more aggressive." Unless you're dealing with all-pro caliber players, there are always trade-offs.

The entire secondary... They are p***ies

The whole secondary and the WR position needs a huge upgrade. They're all finesse and short, they need a BEAST, like a Calvin Johnson, if he were affordable or available.

Why not take a shot on T.O. I know he's a cancer, but he may just straighten up for one season. Don't know if he's still fast but he is physical.

He's also geriatric. Take a look at Justin Hunter in the draft. He's what we need at WR.

Nobody thinks that if you want the team to be more physical then it should be in the trenches, on both lines, more than at WR?

The team is already physical in the trenches. In their losses, they were bullied mostly in the secondary and on the perimeter. Of course they could use a RG to shift Connolly back to center and maybe another DT/DE, but that's about it. We need someone at safety who is going to light people up and not be a total liability in coverage (Matt Elam anyone?) and a big bodied, physical receiver on the outside.
