I want to pretend for a minute that the Jets would trade Revis here..

The financial and compensation implications of such a trade would breakdown to these options.

Option A: Trade for Revis and sign him to a contract of likely $15M per. Let Talib and Welker walk because of salary cap restrictions. Also likely lose at least our 1st round draft pick for 2013.

Option B: Retain Welker, Talib and our 1st round draft pick.

It's really comes down to do you want to have a total of 3 players or Revis?

I do believe the Jets are looking at least a 3+ year rebuilding process so they'd trade Revis to us if we had the best package to offer. Which we might if they view Mallett as a franchise QB which some GM's have been rumored too.

Welker and Talib and it shouldn't even be a close decision.

I would never want to benefit the Jets, especially in a trade. Trading for Revis (which will NEVER happen) would eliminate Welker completely and really strap the team cash-wise to go get a replacement.

Revis in NE would equate to an instant Super Bowl Championship.

He would basically shut down one side of the field and make every NE DB better ala the Michael Jordon factor. It would never work financially though. I dont even think it would have worked if NE drafted Revis.

The cost in terms of draft picks for NE would be higher than every other team IMO.

I think if Revis ever played for the Pats they'd all of a sudden start calling all of those holding penalties on him that we're always yelling about.

Independent of anything else, why would you consider paying a CB $15M/season to be an option for this team? It would cripple us.

Revis gets away with more contact than any other DB in the league but I don't see why they'd start calling it if he left.

oh look another revis thread with people thinking we will get him :bricks:

this roster has become quite top heavy if im not incorrect....we should strive to alter that as much as possible

so no to revis, who will require 2x as much as Talib, but if gets hurt, hes not on the field

MC I never said I would, I just laid out the options at hand.

BM I never said I think we're going to get him. I do think if we wanted him its possible.

I was laying out the options at hand because I wanted to see what people thought.

Revis would be a one year rental that's coming off an ACL surgery. I don't see the logic in making that move when the option is keeping Welker, Talib and #1 pick.

Brent Grimes would probably be a cheaper alternative, if you wanted to look at quality CBs with freshly popped joints (ACL v. Achilles), and he's a free agent so the #1 pick issue would be off the table. With a number of good options available, I'd avoid Revis unless there was some significant change in the circumstances.
