Rumor: Ryan Mallet to Browns for 6th overall pick

Reminder: There's about a 95% chance that Cassel is getting cut this offseason.

Well this would certainly cheer me up a bit.

Maybe this trade is a possibility: swap of 1st round picks. Browns get Ryan Mallett, 3rd round pick from NE, Patriots get a late round pick as well.

so wait the 6th overal pick and a late round pick for mallett a first and a 3rd or the 6 a 3rd anda late round pick for mallett and a 1st

What a great and original idea.

Since this is all just a dream anyway, how about this one:

Mallett for a 2014 1st and a player, say Phil Taylor...?

Cleveland: gets a potential quality QB (signed cheap) they desperately need, keep #6 pick this year (they have no second), only give up a player from a position of depth.

Patriots: get a good (potentially great) pick in what projects to be a stronger draft. Lose a prospect who probably would never see the field anyway. Get a solid DT to work into the mix.

Personally, I would prefer this to the #6 since it might not be possible to trade for value this year. Don't see a lot of "gotta have" guys in that range that teams would trade up for. JMO.

the only chance is if lombardi has a h@rd on for mallet, and i mean h@rd. this isnt going to happen

Part of the rumor was that he thought Mallett was the best pocket passer in the 2011 draft. Hated the Weeden pick as a commentator. Now appears that Glennon isn't showing much at the Senior Bowl. Barkley sounds a lot like Colt McCoy. Nice kid. Doesn't have the size or arm to play qb in Cleveland. Or, the athletic ability if you want the mobile qb. So, there might be some fire to go with the smoke.

I'not sure what the roster management allows for but, if Mallet is a good prospect, what is the chance of us being able to keep him for another 2 or so seasons?

i had heard lombardi thought this about mallet, and i did too. he thought he was a first round pick, but cmon, i dont think that means hes hard enough to give up the 6th pick, atleast straight up

Easy, we have him under contract for another 2 seasons but is he worth more to another team than he is to us?

All I know is that by 36 you can see the end and if can't see it, it will see you.

But the big question is whether or not that end comes before Mallett's contract runs out or not. . . .

Whether or not Lombardi likes Mallett has never been in dispute.

The question is how much he's willing to swap for'm.

Mallett is not the answer for this team moving forward.

How in the H would anyone know that?

He was rated a first round talent whose value plummeted due to certain extracurriculars and an apparent attitude. The attitude I've seen is directed toward stupid journos, which I can relate to, and unless you've got a pattern similar to the honey badger, drug involvement is severely overblown.

Mark Sanchez was drafted in the top 10. As unheard of as this trade proposal is, there is no less pressure on you if you draft Mark Sanchez and he busts than if you trade your #6 for a backup and he busts. You don't lose more picks that way, though it would be prudent to trade down to the mid teens, early 20s and trade that pick away to get value elsewhere.

It was a lot better before the new rookie scale was imposed, but they'd only owe Mallett about $1M over the next two seasons, versus $15M(?) or so for the #6 pick.
