Misconception w/Talib

There are many variable to this equation, Triumph.

One is the improved safety play from McCourty, another is getting Chung out of there. There's also the fact that Gregory became more familiar with the system as the year moved on.

Then there is the move of Arrington back to the slot, where he is much better.

Then there's the move where Dennard became a starter, which obviously helped.

So, my question to you is this: was it the scheme, or was it all Talib's amazing talents and stats? (2 passes defended as of last week's game)

Personally, I think that the moves mentioned above made a lot more difference than Aqib Talib, who didn't even play nearly as much as anyone wants to admit.

Will the secondary be as good without Talib in there? Probably not, but we'll still have all of the above mentioned moves to bank on, and they very well may get another viable, physical CB to play in the late season man coverage scheme.

Is he worth what he thinks he is? No way. We're talking about a player who by all accounts was going to be outright cut this season by G.Schiano in Tampa Bay. For all we know, Belichick may have even known that and decided that it was worth it just due to the fact that he'd never make it to our waiver priority.

Either way, Talib's worth was nowhere near what people are claiming, and his injuries and late season absence haven't done much to prove any different to me.

Maybe Belichick feels differently and offers him enough to stay, but I am having my doubts. One thing we can take from this is that the secondary shouldn't be anywhere near as bad as they were with McCourty/Arrington as the outside CB's with Moore in the slot, and Chung/Wilson as the safeties.

My personal opinion is that it is possible that Talib could be a great signing and could bring excellent play to the corner spot, but he hasn't yet.
I'm not blaming him for getting here late, needing time to get in football shape, and barely playing before getting injured, then getting reinjured pretty quickly.
I'm just pointing out that any of the 'Talib makes us better' talk is theoretical, because (perhaps outside of his control) that hasn't happened on the actual football field yet.

I think the impact he had on the defense and the value he has as a free agent are two very different things. You can make the argument that his individual play while good, wasn't worth the big contract he could potentially get. However, I don't think you can make the argument that he didn't have a huge impact. His presence gave BB the confidence to completely shift the defensive philosophy of the secondary. He allowed them to play more aggressive, physical press man coverage, which for the first half of the Baltimore game was doing a great job. Is Talib single-handedly the reason for this? No. But would this shift have happened without him? No. So I think his impact is undeniable, but his value is debatable. I personally would love to see him back, but like everything else in football it is a business and it needs to be at the right price.

Whatever happens, I hope Arrington is the fourth best CB next year on the depth chart.

I cannot believe there is a new NFL where offense rules.

I'm not surprised, because you are wrong about everything else too.
Including yesterday when the losing Patriots had 428 yards of offense, the losing Matt Ryan threw for almost 400, and the Ravens won because they had 3 consecutive drives where they only went to 3rd down once, and the 49ers had a QB go 16-21-233 while they ran for 149 and came back from a 17-0 deficit.
Of course, the fact that scoring and total offense is at an alltime high would be another fact you could find.
But hey keep being wrong, you are good at it.

By the way, quality comeback to why you are crediting a guy who played in 5 games for the stats in 8. Keep up the good work.

New NFL. Offense rules.

Good call.

Again, great comeback to why you were wrong about something else, by showing your ignorance about a different topic. You are on a roll.

The Pats scored 1 TD in the new NFL.

The high scoring offenses are sitting home.

Atlanta and NE LOST and were shut out in the 2nd half. Offense didnt rule.

SF came back from 17-0
Baltimore scored TDs on 3 straight drives only going to 3rd down once.
Offense ruled. The offenses that moved the ball up and down the field and couldn't convert it to points lost, because their offense wasn't good enough.

Both winning teams scored 28 points and allowed over 400 yards.
Both winning teams scored 38 and 45 the week before and allowed 31 and 35.

Both winning teams in the Conference round gave up an average of 18.5 points. The most points given up were 24 (down 7 points in a week) and the lowest points were 13 (down 18 in a week)

Fun with numbers.

Talib had 4 tackles in a game he didnt play in.

Youre a bigger fool than advertised.

What are you talking about? He had 4 tackles in game 14.
Game 14 is part of 'games 10-14'.
Don't you feel like an idiot for calling me a fool for getting something wrong, that I got right and you got wrong.
Apparently you just called yourself a fool. As I said you are on a roll tonight.

Both teams won because of their offenses success and both teams lost because their offense didn't play to their potential.
Do you think 18.5 points average and giving up 24 is showing an historical level of defensive dominance?

Dude, you really have to get over your obsession with me. You go into every thread and post nonsense in response to my posts, and I have to go through all these back and forths correcting you, and it ruins the board.
How about we just say I totally disagree with virtually every football opinion you have, and you disagree with mine, and you just stop responding to my posts so that we don't kill the board for everyone.
I will agree to believe that every time I ,make a post, you would disagree with it, so you can save everyone the trouble.

Triumph, Andy is right... This thread was ruined by fighting.
