Didn't the Patriots have Leavy earlier in the season and got a few PI calls with a deep ball game plan?

"Leavy tends to let the players play. His 13.9 penalties a game is the ninth fewest. His 22 holding penalties tied for the second fewest. But cornerbacks need to watch out. Leavy led the NFL with 20 pass interference penalties. His games tend to be higher scoring at 48.7 points, fifth highest among officials."

High scoring is good.
Lots of PI is bad. Especially since Flacco likes to chuck it deep looking for the laundry.
Not much holding called, so will the Ravens OL hold Chandler Jones all day long? LOL

Report: Leavy to ref on Sunday - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

Leavy, a retired firefighter, has not previously worked a conference championship game, but has 14 games of postseason experience during his career. He was the referee for the Patriots' game against the Bills in Week 10 of this season, during which 21 penalties were called, including seven on the Patriots. He did not work a Ravens game this season.

If we get screwed it probably won't be with an obvious PI call. It will probably be when our defense has them pinned back on 3rd and 10 with 2 minutes to go, up by 1-2 points, we get the stop, and then a yellow flag will fly on the field..."Holding, 5 yard penalty, automatic first down".

if anyone cares at this point, Jerome Boger will be the Super Bowl referee.

I really don't care about the refs with one exception-Ed Hochuli. as long as he isn't involved it's all good, when he is I know the Patriots are going to get screwed. His replay calls are especially convoluted and alwqays end up going against the Patriots. He really thinks he is the star of the game and goes way out of his way to make himself a part of the outcome, which is the worst thing a ref can do imo.

The best news I've heard is that the wind will be a factor, which should hopefully cut down on Flacco's PI-inducing moonballs.

I was thinking this too. However, if he tosses one up there and the DB has good coverage, but the wr has to come back for it, you will see 7 yellow flags on the db for impeding his progress to get back to the ball...watch.

What are we Jets fans? Complaining about the refs especially before the game has even been played is for losers.

if the Pats can't win because the refs, they have no business being in this game.

no, thats a ridiculous statement, we are not a varsity team playing a JV team, this isnt pop warner where levels can be different b/c of ages, this isnt a pro team vs a college team

these two teams are "supposed" to be on the same level, if the officials are obviously going for one team, then the chances of that team winning skyrocket, this is the AFC champ game, both teams must be pretty damn good if they got here, so if the officials favor one, that is enough to tip the scales, where instead the play on the field should tip the scales

Yeah Carey reffed SB 42 and didn't call Eli in the grasp or throw a flag for one of the 97 holds on that play.

If we execute and get up on them early...... the refs wont be able to influence the game.

Not really, see week 3. Like I said earlier, we're up 13-0 and would have gotten the ball back but for a terrible non existent penalty on Mayo. Instead its 13-7, whole game swings and we still should have win but for the awful call on McCourty late in the game.

The Ravens were the most penalized team in the NFL this year, with 1,127 yards in penalties. To put that in perspective think back over the past few years of Ravens teams, ones that had a reputation for being a bit undisciplined and piling up lots of penalties; that 1,127 yards is the most in their franchise history.

If Leavy does indeed 'let the players play' - which tends to happen more in the playoffs anyways - then that would in theory favor Baltimore, as that would mean that they would get away with more that they normally would be called on.

No kidding this is sad. The refs will most likely call some bad ones on the Pats along with some bad ones on the Ravens. Time to man up and watch Ridley run it down their throats.
