Lots of hype around Mr. Flacco recently based on his playoff performances of late. He seems to have done awfully well against us in the last few matchups as well, but I have a feeling it's going to turn around tomorrow, here's why:

1.) No secret that the Ravens make a lot of scratch on the deep ball. We're expecting 20+ mph winds tomorrow. It's hard to imagine the Ravens attempting many deep throws if the wind is consistently blowing that hard. The balloon he threw to Smith last week would have been in the stands.

Also, he completed 3 balls over 30 in our first game. We've only allowed 2 over 30 in our last 8 games. We're playing the deep ball far better than in the first matchup.

2.) Our secondary is world's better than any time we've played them in the last few years.

3.) Felger, of all people, has been harping on how Flacco can't throw left, and it's pretty spot on. His right to left ratio is >3:1 (It was 23:8 in our first matchup). With our new found success in the secondary, I hope to hell that we load up coverage on the right side and blitz the ever living piss out of him.

4.) Coincidentally, as another poster pointed out, Flacco doesn't handle the blitz well. I don't know how often we blitzed in the first matchup, but we were rarely blitzing early in the season, so it was likely limited. This time around I doubt he's so lucky.

A few people have said he's due for a bad game. That's BS. He's going to play well if we give him the opportunity to play well. Unfortunately for Joe, I don't think he's going to have the opportunity.

Well, all this is hypothetical. Could be a bad day for our defense/secondary as well just like denver had last week. You never know.

Man thank god we have Brady who is Immune to wind!!!

;)

He doesn't really make his living on deep bombs though, so he is actually more immune to wind than Flacco. He throws a harder, more accurate short ball, too, which helps in windy conditions.

Sure, that goes without saying. Any given Sunday...

Their OL is much improved the past few games. Against Denver in 5 quarters+ of play, I think they only hit him 3 times. Pats need to apply more pressure than Denver did.

Is Birk still their center?

I hear that Wilcott guy is pretty damn good.

Which is why a more realistic title to you thread might have been-
"Could be a bad day for Flacco, but then again, could be a good day for Flacco. Who knows? Any given Sunday and all that jazz."

I was hopeful coming over this thread looking to possibly find some as-of-now undisclosed information you exclusively had as to why Joe Flacco is going to be experiencing unfavorable conditions and/or situations that'd cause him to perform poorly on Sunday.

Nope. Just found another thread stating the obvious. I wish the game would get here already.

It could be a bad day for Brady as well,The Ravens are the only team in the NFL who Brady has more INTs than TDs

The QBs will be as good as their OLs are and how much time they allow the QB to throw......this game, like most will be won in the trenches.

What? I'm pretty sure he made two very clear points ( 1 and 2) that are based on facts we can agree with.

A couple of stats to chew on, via Gary Marbry:
It Is What It Is » Nuggetpalooza: My stats nuggets on the Patriots vs. Ravens AFC Title Game

Baltimore attempted 85 passes thrown more than 20 yards downfield, the third most in the league. Only the Colts (88) and the Lions (87) tried more. The Ravens were the only NFL team that never threw an interception on a long pass (21+ yards downfield). However, their 9.8 average yards per attempt on those passes ranked just 20th in the league.

While Joe Flacco and the Ravens never threw a pick on a long ball during the season, the Patriots’ pass defense picked off a league high eight such passes out of 78 opponent attempts (also a league high). They had just eight such picks over the previous two seasons combined.

Baltimore had THREE touchdowns of 20 or more yards in last Saturday’s win at Denver. Since 2000, the Ravens have scored three such touchdowns in a game (regular season or playoffs) only one other time (2009 against the Vikings).

I'll be really pissed if he actually lives up to all the hype and praise he's received this week. It seems like he is over due to come back to earth on a big stage.

I think he made an excellent case that, just like the wind tomorrow, Joe Flacco blows pretty hard.

OK, the OL besides center is much improved. I hope wilfork will open it up for the other guys as he will get double teamed

The one thing that's different this year from last tear's AFCCG, is that the Ravens played last week (last year they had a bye).

This year, we have a week-old tape on them from the divisional round. We have a head-start on them in the sense that we saw what they did in Denver and will have examined all expects of what they are likely to do. Having played them back in week 3 is nice but a lot has changed since.

On top of that, the extra game they had to play on the road at high altitude and in sub-freezing temps, surely can't do any good for their overall physical shape.

Last year the Ravens beat the Texans with TJ Yates at QB in the divisional round, but did have a bye. This year the wear and tear is much worse.

Yes, I'm sorry. I meant to say they played in the wild-card round this year, as opposed to skipping it last year. Thanks for the correction.

You are dead on here.....this game will be won or lost in the trenches. CAN our OL protect Brady and give him time to throw, and open holes for the RB's....and CAN our DL get ALOT of pressure on Flunko......that will determine the outcome overall.....GO PATS!!!!

flacco 2 ints...you heard it here first

My theory (and I admit I haven't heard anyone else say this so I'm probably wrong) is that wind favors Flacco more than Brady.

My reasoning is that Brady runs a precision passing game, and wind has been known to cause problems with that. On the other hand, Flacco is known for his arm (so he could possibly power the ball through the wind better), but more importantly Flacco's long game consists mainly of flinging the ball up there and letting his receivers go for it. I think his receivers may well be able to adjust to the windblown balls better than we think.
