Dennard Not at Start of Practice Wednesday; Fells Earns Practice Award

Mallet is probably the one throwing deep balls for our DB's to practice covering.

Ravens throw more than any other team in the NFL.

Which is a real benefit, because not many people have strong arms like Mallet and Flacco. Not too many backup QB's can give their CB corps a real Flacco flyball simulation.

If we didn't have The Hammer I could see Bledsoe getting a call for some red jersey 1099 work this week :)

Re: Dennard not at practice today/possible illness

As per mike reiss, Dennard was not present for today's practice. Hopefully it's not anything big because we need him. we all know that. Reiss went on to say that he thinks it could be an illness. God i hope its not the flu, especially with the country wide epidemic thats going on. Hey who knows, maybe he'll have a michael jordan type of game for the patrios like MJ had for the bulls. lol. Just hope he's ready to go.

As a Patriots fan I hope you're right about Dennard having an awesome game on Sunday.... But as a Jazz fan I really dislike you right now for bringing up the MJ performance. :D

I'm not worried about Dennard for I think BB is just giving him a little rest to try to get as healthy as possible. IIRC he missed some practice time last week as well but he was ready to go against the Texans.

What stood out more for me about that report is that Fells won the practice award. Pats are gonna need a good game out of him with Gronk on IR and I think that is a good sign that he's ready to come in and contribute.

Which reminds me... What's the word on Hawanoo... Hawoonui... Ummm... the other TE? I remember seeing reports that he got a little hurt during the Texans game. Is he ready to go?

There was one report about him icing his knee after the game - if there was no problem today than it probably looks good

This is probably where Kamar Aiken comes in useful. Mallet to Aiken over and over and over and over.

Defend it boys!

It's probably your fault for being a Jazz fan ;)

Dennard's absence not injury related - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

According to Reiss Dennard absense not injury related. And here is the full practice report:

Player Pos. Injury Wednesday
Alfonzo Dennard CB Not Injury Related DNP
Rob Gronkowski TE Forearm DNP
Marquice Cole CB Finger Limited
Chandler Jones DE Ankle Limited
Nick McDonald OL Shoulder Limited
Trevor Scott DE Knee Limited
Danny Woodhead RB Thumb Limited

One of his issues is a hamstring and you don't want to put too much unnecessary wear-and-tear on a sensitive hamstring in practice. Game play is different. It's not like they're installing a whole new defensive scheme. The meetings are probably even more important at this point. They're just resting him, I believe.

re: Dennard, hamstring issues are typically nagging, and take a long time to heal fully. Given that he sustained the injury in the 49ers game, I doubt he's 100%, so it's not surprising that Belichick is giving him as much rest as possible to help with healing and prevent reaggravating the injury. As such, it doesn't really worry me, since I didn't have any real expectation that he'd be 100% recovered by this point anyway.

To whatever extent the Dennard news is a negative, Chandler Jones being back out there is a much bigger positive. Not sure what to make of Woodhead practicing with a thumb brace. Seems like that could cause issues with ball security, blocking, and catching, so I have a hard time believing that Vereen isn't a better option based on that. Maybe Belichick just wants Woodhead to be available in case Vereen gets hurt?

Hope its not the flu....

Honestly, given how nasty and widespread the flu is here right now, I'd be tempted to quarantine the whole team until Sunday. My daughter's school is struggling to stay open this week because so many teachers are out sick.

Yeah, really. Brings up bad AFCCG memories :(.

If Gronk is done for the year(the last report I remember seeing about the injury) after he broke his forearm again, is there a reason why he hasn't been put on IR?.. Are they hoping he might be Ok to play in the SB should we win this Sunday?

PS. Since you're a fellow Patriots fan I'm gonna forgive the low blow about me being a Jazz fan... But just this once. :D

They already have a half dozen guys already on the roster who are inactive every game. Presumably one of these guys will now be active to fill Gronk's spot (Fells). There is little to gain by putting him on IR: the chance to be the last of 6 guys in line to be active.

But if there is No chance of him playing this season then there is Nothing to gain from keeping him on the roster. Why not try to bring someone in who can fill his roster spot and contribute? Maybe not another TE but what about someone who can take over kick return duty or punt returns since that seems to be the team's weakest point. Replace Welker so he doesn't take more hits than he has to or McCourty since he never makes it past the 20.

By no means am I claiming to be an expert here and maybe BB thinks there is no one out there worth bringing in. Just me being curious about why he isn't on IR yet and hoping its because BB thinks he might be able to play in the SB if we win this weekend.

Tough break for you. How come the Utah Jazz didn't change the name to something that made sense? Like the Utah Mitts?

As had been speculated, Dennard's DNP had to do with his pre-draft legal incident.

Alfonzo Dennard missed practice for court appearance - Extra Points - Boston.com

Patriots' rookie cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was absent from practice on Wednesday, and the reason given by the team on the day's injury report was "not injury related."

Dennard was in Lancaster County, Nebraska for a court appearance because of his April 21 arrest outside of a Lincoln, Neb. bar, just days before the NFL Draft was set to begin.

On Wednesday, Dennard's trial date was set for Feb. 11, according to Lancaster County District Court records. Attorneys believe it will take up to four days.

Yes and Dennard is back at practice today. Everyone there but Gronk
