Dan Fouts: Tom Brady gets special treatment from refs

Brady has received two roughing the passer calls this season. In comparison Schaub received 4.

He's tied for 14th with 11 other teams/QB's as beneficiary's of Roughing the passer.

Its one thing when moronic fans spew this stuff. But a guy who has ready access to any stat he wants should take the minute to look it up.

Tannenhill received 7, Newton 6, Oak/Philly as a team both received 6, Fitzpatrick/Luck and Rodgers all received 5.

"Tom Brady has to be protected to be effective."

:bricks:

I'm not sure what TB he saw this season, but our TB has taken a lot of hits this season, and he is as effective as he has always been.

Drafted in the third round out of the University of Oregon in 1973, Fouts helped lead the Chargers to the playoffs from 1979 to 1982 and twice to the AFC title game (1980 and 1981).

OK, everyone...I, the Joker ,have found him....I found Mark Sanchez's FATHER!

He must be proud of Mark's chip off the ol' blockhead "2 consecutive AFCCG" losses...just like daddy used to do it.

What Dan Fouts describes is an NFL-wide dilemma at present. With the change in rules, refs are calling RTP for any hit on the QB that is a split-second late.

Dan Fouts is jealous because he is irrelevant. He thinks if he can knock Brady down a peg it will elevate his own career. Why single out Brady? Can't the same be said for every other QB? Nothing but petty jealousy. Maybe too many shots to the head. Take your 3 career playoffs wins and shove 'em up your ass.

One could try to tell Dan Fouts about the lack of TFB roughing the passer calls, however, after reading what he said I seriously doubt anything has ever been explained to him successfully.

So what? Eli Manning gets a lot more preferential treatment than Brady ever did. Just watch the last 2 super bowls. Also, look at his brother.

he refused to use the shotgun formation for the most part, even though he had the most prolific group of skill receivers in the league for a short three/four year period...he paid by being repeatedly smoked in the pocket. He uses this as an attack on Brady's courage....well...it's pretty dyam STUPID to refuse to use a formation that allows you more time in the pocket to look downfield and pass the ball to receivers essentially running double moves all day long.

I saw all his big games over his career...in fact , back then the West Coast game was always the second game of the Sunday afternoon NFL and Air Coryell was on almost every week.

What is it about the playoffs that causes people to say incredibly stupid things?

If Fouts is going to make such a comment, I'd like him to reference the specific plays/moments where Brady was protected by the stripes and the outcome of said protection.

Listening to him reeks of jealousy.

Except, they aren't. As pointed out, there were only TWO called on players who hit Brady and I can guarantee you there were plenty that came more than a "split-second" late.

Fouts is a moron who is talking out his arse to make himself sound important. The reality is that Brady gets the fewest calls given to him and he probably knows the penalties better than the officials do.

I think all quarterbacks are over protected. Attaching Brady's name to it is stupid but, if a call is close you better believe the official is going to err on the side of the QB. That's just the NFL these days.

fouts sounds jealous

I agree. I also said on Weei, how the hell do you play for 15 seasons in the NFL and not make it to the Super Bowl Once. Sounds to me someone is hating. Dont Hate Appreciate. Brady 3 Fouts 0. I never even knew who this dude was until he said what he said about Brady.

Good point. Put aside that Fouts is an @$$ bag for pointing the criticism at TFB versus taking the well thought out road (as you did), the uncertainty around the RTP rule sucks. It is too arbitrary and unfair to defenders, plain and simple. When a rule is arbitrary, outcomes of the game can be decided not by the competition but increasingly by the whim of a guy in a black and white striped shirt with a whistle strapped to his hand. As foolish as this is, it would be fairer to say just put two hands on the QB and he is now sacked/down (can this be far off already?).

The ultimate problem is these decisions are made by an NFL brain trust that is less and less considering the game and more considering the $$$......

And since Brady got all of 2 RTP penalties called for him this season, it's clearly an epidemic. Sounds like Fouts should be saying this about a whole lot of other QBs rather than Brady.

Fouts gets special treatment from his employers by being able to say something so incredulously stupid without being publicly *****slapped and fired.
