Anyone have any idea how we approach running the ball against the Ravens?

Last time our backs combined for 75 yards on 30 attempts an abysmal 2.5 yards per carry. I think this is the key to the game as when we run the ball the offense is nearly unstoppable due to play action and slowing down the pass rush.

IMO part of the problem was Woodhead was the primary back he got 15 carries and did squat with them, this was during the phase when Woodhead was overused earlier this year.

On defense we were handling them fine until the replacement refs screwed us and now we have McCourty at safety(>Chung), Talib at corner (>McCourty) and Dennard at the other spot (> Arrington).

I think Brady has figured out this older Ravens defense he had his first good game against them back in September and now it'll be in our house.

As always GO PATS :rocker:

Just run it right at lewis. Their Run D isn't what it was a year ago

The stats I posted were from September of this year, has their Run D got significantly worse since week 3? I haven't paid much attention to their Run D specifically. Ngata and Lewis were healthy week 3 so maybe that had something to do with our lack of success.

They ended the season at the #20 spot against the run. They are weak in that area and the few times I saw the Ravens play - they got gashed on the ground.

The Ravens conceded 152 @ 4.8YPC against the Colts and 125 @ 4.6YPC against the Broncos. If the Patriots enjoy similar success against the Ravens, Manning and Luck demonstrated that you can pass on them.

It's an intriguing match up because the Ravens D isn't the Ravens D we've become accustomed to seeing over the years. Let's hope that form holds.

Great info thanks, Broncos did most of their damage with their 3rd string back since Moreno got hurt so that bodes well for us. My biggest fear in this game is Bradys history against this defense it just seems like in the past he gets uncharacteristically jumpy and inaccurate against them and throws multiple picks. Septembers game was a total reverse of this where he threw for 300 yards and no picks and racked up numerous first downs so maybe the age has gotten to them.

I think the best bet is to go super hurry up like we did against Denver, blast the old coots off the field

ravens got a gift win in week 3, its pay back time!

In the 3 and 4 holes to start. Ngata is not the same and Cody was unimpressive against Denver. Start inside attacking Ngata and Ray, get Ray concerned about the inside run and work yourself outside. And use it to your favor in the play action game. Odds are they will play zone over the middle and Ray has been a step behind in the passing game, but still in position to make a fairly quick tackle after the catch, freeze him with the play action and attack the Ravens over the intermediate middle, hopefully drawing the safeties up a bit to help make up for Ray. Then take a few chances over the top.

The Ravens in their two playoff games since getting "healthy" have allowed 277 yards on 71 carries or 3.9 yards a carry.

The Ravens run defense is not that good. Get them out in space, and they look lost.

The Patriots won't have a problem scoring the football. But will they be able to stop the Ravens skill players on defense? Last time it was a disaster.

Patriots just don't match up well defensively against the very big, and fast Raven receivers.

Where did you get those numbers? I see 41 carries in the Broncos game and 30 in the Colts game.

The Ravens stopped Hillman in the last game. Congrats.

Running it at Lewis is what they want. We want plenty of OZ runs or end arounds; make Baltimore run sideline to sideline, which is something they and the 37 year old Lewis do not want to do.

I hope for a lot more screens to Vereen. He will give them fits and force them to spread out.

Apologies, I pulled the wrong net gain per play for both. It was actually 5.1YPC for the Colts and 3.0 for the Broncos.

Just looked at the weather and right now not looking great for deep balls. 22MPH winds on Sunday.

Also just looked at the Colts carries and charted Ballards carries, I didn't include Lucks scrambles. Criteria off tackle = left / right in between tackles middle:

Left: 10 Carries 31 yards Long 8 Yards
Right: 4 carries 13 yards Long 7 Yards
Middle: 9 Carries 48 yards long 24 yards

Will update in a minute for the Denver game.

Denver only ran up the middle:

Left: 6 Carries 23 yards Long 9 yards
Right: 2 Carries 4 yards Long 5 yards
Middle: 34 Carries 110 yards Long 11 yards

In two games (not including QB scrambles):
Left: 16 Carries 54 yards 3.4 a clip
Right: 6 Carries 17 yards 2.8 a clip
middle 43 carries for 158 yards 3.7 a clip.

Can we do to Ray Lewis what we did to Porter? 0 tackles?
