Rodney Harrison tells new story about Pats-Giants Super Bowl Final TD

For people that want to know, it's Rodney yelling at the defense/Seau to override the defensive call of an all out blitz, yet it was too late.

Good stuff. Hurts to hear but Rodney seems fine to talk about it joyfully. And noticed he picked the Pats to win SB XLVII?

Rodney new it was coming and Seau refused to check out of the all out blitz, because he wanted a sack. Pretty heavy stuff there! I always loved Rodney.

I don't know what to think of Rodney Harrison.
He's my favorite Patriots player on defense probably of all time.

I remember saying at one time on this very forum "Rodney Harrison is a beast. He can say whatever he wants."

But lately I don't know...
He's said a lot of things that have made me want to recall his Patriot-4-life card. He's basically saying Junior botched the final play and Junior's not here to defend himself.

Not sure why we wouldn't have heard this before.

Or have we?

Only thing I've heard before is him putting the final Eli drive on Asante.

Why does Rodney Harrison love bringing up this drive and ruining my day?

Totally agree, don't see a positive point to this.
It doesn't matter anyways, the Giants were scoring regardless after the Tyree catch. That defense wasn't stopping them over the course of 4 downs.

Maybe he's trying to find ways to absolve himself of any blame he's placed upon himself for not being in position to swat/intercept the ball and then not being able to pull the ball away from Tyree?

A sack looks so much sexier don't it?

The guy catches the ball with his helmet...

And didn't Rodney recently say he thought about retiring and had a hard time because of it?

Ultimately he wasn't strong or resourceful enough to rip that ball out. Not a major knock against him: most of us couldn't, and he frankly probably thought it would pop out easily and didn't put enough oomph on it. Give him that play over, and he rips it like it is a honey badger grabbing his first born.

If he's accurate, and Junior's not here to dispute, (which I have a problem with) then the "me first, I want a sack" flies in the face of The Patriot Way and team first.

Does anyone remember if they had any time outs? Why wouldn't you call a time out, Rodney, if you really disagreed? (not that I really want to dredge this up again.) Dan shoulda followed up instead of yucking it up with one of his bro's. This is what happens with the media guys become celebrities in their own right. Zero objectiveness.

I think this is Rodney just flapping his gums. Full on mediot mode.

Rodney idolized Junior so I doubt he would make up a story that reflected badly on him. And there are too many guys still standing who could contradict it if he did. That said the call came in from Pees and BB and I'd guess it would be pretty hard to check out of a call made at that level at that juncture. Even though they had failed to get to Eli all day.

Of course, I still want to know why the hell BB called a jailbreak blitz that would leave a smurf on a 6-footer, from inside the 5?!?!?

There's no way any blitz could have gotten there. It's not like Burress had to run 40 yards and Eli would have to hold the ball waiting for him to get downfield and thus be time for the blitz to arrive.

All he had to do was take the snap, take a step back, and launch a timing-pattern fade. No blitz could ever get there in time, so why was it called, especially when the DB had no chance against a much taller receiver?

Rodney didn't bring it up. Patrick did. He even held it over through commercials.

Rodney's on the list of my Five Favorite Pats of "All Time," but he's in the "Headline" business now, so, I guess that's a polite way of saying that I'd like to hear one other guy who was on the field for that play confirm that that was how it actually went down. Unfortunately, Junior can no longer speak for himself.

I didn't get the impression that Rodney was blaming Junior for the botched call at all. To my mind it was just a war story from the trenches on a critical drive in the SB. The two must have been close with the SD ties, and Rodney is just sharing their chatter, which to me brings it more to life. If anyone wouldn't it be the DC, LBC, Secondary Coach and the Mike responsible for the call and any change?

I am over the loss of the SB 42, but would love to have another Rodney and Junior on our team. I have a feeling that 32 is heading in that direction as our safety, be nice if 55 could replicate Seau.

Great story and good that Dan Patrick let it run.

He doesn't, Patrick does. He along with Rich Eisen bring it up literally every chance they get.
