Remember how BB was crucified for a week or so when he went for it on 4th and 1. What about Fox's decision today to take a kneel down with 30 seconds left in the game and 2 timeouts left, with arguably one of the best "regular season" QBs on his team? This was hardly mentioned on SC and NFLN. And to top it all here is what Trent Dilfer had to say about Peyton

"He was getting to know this team, the offesne, I would give him one season to recover from injury and another year to gel with the offense"

Really? what is Trent Dilfer smoking? Peyton is 36 years old, and Dilfer says that Peyton will be ready to win a SB 3 years from today.....:bricks::bricks::bricks:

The soccer mom's will agree with that decision, no doubt

local denverpost is all over fox as are most broncos fans

Where does this fit into the "Peyton Manning calls all his own plays" storyline?

The Broncos drive before Baltimore tied it was all runs. Then, after the tying score, they just take a knee.

So was Manning being too conservative? Or was he just following instructions at that point?

Accounts from Carolina fans report that this is typical John Fox conservatism.

Foxy is just not a good coach. Beli said it best this week...

"You don't win a war by digging a fox hole and sitting in it... you have to attack" - Bill Belichick.

Fox is like that awful College coach who gets a lead over the favourite team, then goes conservative and loses. Except the Broncos where the favourite. SMFH.

I would not be surprised if Lane F'n Kiffin was not questioning Foxy's coaching tonight.

OT/ Speaking of Lane Kiffin. I will never forgive that guy for his coaching againts ND. It should have been Bama Oregon in the NCG...

It was mentioned on NFL Gameday Final. Deion agreed with Fox's call where as Heath Evans strongly disagreed and explained the patriot way of thinking on offense.

BB is disliked by a wide cross section of the mediot collective. So is this a case of BB the pariah not being given the benefit of the doubt where other more liked personalities would? Not sure about that as I personally agree with Fox's decision (or is that PM's decision?). Even if I didn't agree with it, it would still be an arguably reasonable decision.

The decision needs to be based on what can be gained by what can be lost -- not on impulsive fan "come on just go for it!". First, the Denver offense at that point in the game looked to be moving the ball with better efficiency than the Ravens. You have to believe your chances in OT are better than 50/50. So then what are the odds of a PM interception, PM fumbling due to the pass rush, a receiver fumbling that would give the Ravens an immediate or almost immediate chance at a game winning FG? Put that up against the odds of getting to the Baltimore 40 yard line in less then 30 seconds to try a the lowest % FG try there is?
When you stack up the odds/circumstances against each other, IMHO the juice just wasn't worth the squeeze.....

Was BB criticized by national media, or the local mediots???... The radio idiots had a field day with it, but their motivation is ratings not good information.

Do not think that you will hear much of an outcry from national press as it is a local issue...

If you went to Denver this week and tuned in, there will be plenty of noise.. other than that, do not see this going national all that much.

agree with the OP. since i was rooting for the Ravens and a NEP home AFCCG, i breather a sigh of relief when manning took the knee at the end of regulation. unbelievable. i guess its defensible...but really a big relief for ravens rooters, so you figure it out.

the BIGGER gaffe was not trying to ice the game with 2 minutes left! one play, one pass completion and GAME OVER. WTF Jphn Fox?? we've seen BB go for it on 4th!

That was bad, it probably wasn't as bad as not trying to get the first down with 2 minutes left though. I wonder how long it'll be until Manning ballwashers accept that these playoff failures/mismanagements remain with him regardless of his supporting cast and coaches. Somehow when it comes to playoff football his team and coaches always managed to 'let him down' no matter who they are and who they're playing.

If Iam thepats and manning has the ball at the 20 yard line with 30 secs and 2 TO I would be thrilled if he takes a knee. gutless coaching.

.....now know as the "John Fox Hole"

The mistake by Fox was going so conservative on the previous drive. PM can dink and dunk with the best of them and he could have run out the clock with one short strike. Kubs gets no love in our town because he's conservative, but he strongly believes in running out the clock with the ball in his hands. It's why we are undefeated on one score games. And if you go back over his entire record at Houston, he has an outstanding record in one score games when the O has the ball at the end. (lame stat I know, but what happened to Fox doesn't happen to Kubs) he would have attempted a throw for first down just as he did last week vs the Bengals to close out the game. if you are going to trust the D, then you should trust them whether you give them 1 minute to defend or 1:30. Running the ball when its 3rd and 5 and the whole world knows your running doesn't work very often, but passing does.

Lastly, I respect BB, but this war talk is BS. he's never won a war much less been to war, he doesn't know crap about war. I've got family in Afghanistan and they don't dig foxholes. The media eats it up but comparing a game to war is lame.

Fox is probably thinking, if they get the ball our defense can hold them (tho, that in itself is not very logical since they just blew the game on the previous play). If Denver gets the ball they still might be on their 20 and lose with a pick-six? Thus, why not try and throw a quick out, or a 10-20 yard gainer with a time-out. Then, you might have one chance for a long throw, a time-out, and a game winning kick.

Fox is conservative. That was mentioned last year (?) or a few years ago in a Pats game when Denver had the ball 4th and short and Denver punted.

Of course it's not really like a war...it's just an expression.

Manning runs the offense, we're told, so in every single negative comment about Fox in this thread, replace "Fox" with "Manning"

I knew Fox would do that. It's how he operates. He's always coached to not lose instead of coaching to win. It's a subtle, yet significant difference.

One could even argue that the better team should be conservative, as talent should eventually favour the better team. But he's always done this, even in his worst seasons at Carolina.

It's also different if you have a HOF QB you've built your entire offense around. Part of me wonders if Fox didn't trust Manning yet, or didn't have faith in Manning in the cold. But really, it's just John Fox being a ***** as usual.

He is not talking about a 'war' . Its a metaphor. Just like the nave seal metaphor he gave this week. I respect that you have family in Afghanistan but maybe you also should know BB has a huge respect for the Armed forces because his dad coached the navy. He knows a game is not a war. Relax.
