Have you ever played any sport when it's colder? Your muscles tense up and it's harder to generate as much power as you would on warm weather. That's why pitchers generally throw with less velocity when the weather is cold. Even if there's no wind, it sure as hell would affect Peyton.

won't the thin air neutralize that a bit?

This game is very simple of what it comes down to...

When Ray Rice rushes for over 100 Yards, the Ravens rarely lose, when Rice is contained they usually lose.

It will be the Ray Rice show on Saturday.

LOL....No I doubt it,They don't exactly have Montana at QB to be able to do that,Rice is their biggest weapon and has been for quite some time now.

I also see the Ravens trying to slow down that solid Broncos pass rush by bringing Rice out on the screen pass a few times during the game, those plays when they are productive, totally ruins defensive schemes and game plans like the Pats did more often during the glory years when Faulk was the main guy in those plays.

But this switch is a matter of necessity. The most-lasting residual effect from Manning’s neck surgeries has been the nerve regeneration in the grip of his right (throwing) hand. He simply does not grip the football as well as he once did.

“I certainly don’t think I would have had to wear the glove had I not been injured last year,” Manning said. “It’s part of my injury, some things that I’ve had to adjust. I’m in a different body. Some things are different for me.”

NFL: Broncos' Manning has help on hand | The Columbus Dispatch

As many of us have said, Manning is not the same. I wonder what the media will say to deny this now that Manning's admitting to it.

I think Manning will have gotten used to playing outdoors, so I don't think the cold will get to him. We'll see!

Not good karma to hope for injuries, but I guess you could hope for double quadruple overtime so they're so emotionally and physically drained they can't play the pats next week...

OMG It's already in his head, he is fudged!

Some background on the glove.

Broncos' Peyton Manning warms to glove

Manning dealt with nerve damage and weakness in his right arm after the surgery, and the glove helps improve his grip on the ball, something that becomes more challenging in frigid temperatures.

"I certainly don't think I would have had to wear the glove if I hadn't been injured last year. It is part of my injury, and one of the things I've had to adjust," Manning said Tuesday. "

SO not really in his head, but apparently a genuine factor.

I've actually played quite a few football games in below freezing temps and you definitely can't throw a deep ball as effectively but I never found throws under 30 yards to be as effected. My point is twofold: the cold affects both QB's but wind will impact a QB more that doesn't drive or power the ball.

I know it wasn't a playoff game, but didn't Manning lead a 4th quarter comeback in a Denver snowstorm in 2002? Weather looked pretty bad as I remember it. I'd feel better about a wind game rather than just cold.

I believe you're correct....but THAT was 2002......The "Elder" Peyton is going to have trouble in that kind of cold I would imagine

Favre has 11 playoff losses and Peyton would tie him,

with Peyton being 9-11 and Favre being 13-11, thus Pay-me-a-ton "wins" the biggest playoff loser award on the % tiebreaker :rocker:

Wait, wait, you can not speak of such things.
You can only focus on how Brady is only 6-6 in his last 12 playoff matches.

More concerned about the pats game . Sometimes we get what we want but our own game could be a trouble.

SVN, dude, love the links you're always sending, among your other posts. But I worry you don't enjoy the games enough!

You got it. Iam a nervous wreck in pats games and always worried about the team :(

Halftime score:

Denver 24
Balt. 3

The title of this thread literally made me feel a little nauseous ... but I like seeing that weather detail. Amazing how many media types are saying Peyton's already proven he can handle the cold because he played in a 35-degree game. Big difference here. And it's been mild all week in Denver, so the shock will be even more evident.

And that was against KC....

First 'cold' playoff game he's played since maybe 2004 AFC divisonal round at NE? Maybe the one at Baltimore in 2006 but even in that game it was his defense that carried them to victory.

Denver 24
Balt. 3

How do you suppose they score them 24 points?

19 degrees at kick off real feel 15 degrees / 16 degrees and flurries at halftime real feel 8 degrees at halftime.

In three previous games played under 40 degrees in the playoffs, Peyton led teams have scored a combined total of 17 points....

I think we all are more hoping the cold beats him than we know it will. Right now I'm expecting that we'll have to go to Denver. If so we just have to rise to the occasion and win. A 3 game winning streak against whomever we draw. That is all. I have a spot on the shelf for the Three games to Glory IV DVD. I'm filling that spot this year.

can't wait to see what flacco can do in the weather....int...int..int
