Playoff football!
This is what we wait all year for!

And what has been on the front page for days on end?

Anybody Else have a Bad feeling?
We're going to lose and it's all my fault.
Anybody have any new superstitions?

Seattle to the SB.

And threads about RG3, Ray Lewis, Rob Ryan, that idiot from ESPN and somebody's girlfriend.

Sounds like a bunch of Red Sox fans.

It's not playoff time that's bringing out this malaise, it's the Texans. I think the board will have a different flavor for Brady-Manning XIII

I suppose that's what happens during bye weeks....we all go a little crazy.

I must say, I do enjoy the 'memory lane' threads.

Nope. It will probably be even worse than it is now (should the game actually happen).

Yes I know and noticed it last year too and just finished posting about this but it's worth repeating.

The problem is in our heads and for two reasons.

We as a fan base and team have the most pressure on us. Believe it or not, it's a lot easier to win when you are the underdog and all the pressure is off your shoulders. We have higher expectations.

And not to toot our own horn but we are reasonable, logical and think things through. As a fan base I think this is one of the most intelligent group of posters on the internet.

But when you combine those two things together, it can easily instill fear and negativity and a loss of faith or belief in your team.

The truth is though if you try to reason your way into believing wholeheartedly into a team, it's nearly impossible. It's nearly impossible to use reason to believe into anything because there are too many 'reasonable' obstacles to overcome.

The answer is to simply overlook those obstacles, put your heart on the line again, and just believe anyway. Not necessarily because it makes sense, but just because.

I always see it as the 'I'll improve our chances if I am not complacent' philosophy

there are people here who actually believe their mindset will affect the outcome......there are also people here who believe that they need to think like BB in order for the pats to be successful.

the same people who are on a first-name-basis with the players like they're their drinking buddies or something

I think it has something to do with us blowing the texans out in week 14 and choking in 2010.

But the facts are that we're rested, healthy and have a more complete team than last year.

And what have the texans done do inspire any confidence at all? Lost to the sissy colts when all was on the line and beat the mighty bengals.

Underutilization of the PS.

Bah, some of the threads and some of the posts are a little silly, but it's all part of the football scene. You read what interests you, and maybe even join in the conversations that fit your standards. Heck, you could even start a thread for that purpose if you wanted.

The current thread with the most posts from where I sit is a very good 'Idle Thoughts" one started by Ken, a nice discussion of the game involving some Houston fans too. Here's the link, maybe it'll suit your needs?

The excellent "Ignore Thread" feature makes the board more enjoyable at times like this where the insecure cannot restrain themselves from sobbing all over the internet. Who doesn't have a fleeting thought or 2 on occasion that our team may not prevail but that momentary all too human concern does not mean that starting a weeping thread is necessary. What happened to the excellent pro & con analysis threads that discussed matchup weaknesses and strengths vs an opponent? Instead we get ball less wonders spewing stream of consciousness insecurities and proud of it.

Pairs need to be grown.

Probably best to avoid the game threads this week lol. "....And Rackers kick is good! Texans lead 3-0" "Well guys it was a good season...think we should trade our first back for a 2nd and a 5th?"

I'm waiting for the " WE'RE DOOMED !! " thread.

That'll end up with a gazillion comments.

Interestingly the Broncos board is highly optimistic. Perhaps its our negative Northeast attitude?

This just in.

When dealing with human beings and 100's upon 100's upon 1000's of conversations, there will be some that you personally find inane or irrelevant.

*cough*

Personally, I'm guessing that losing two Super Bowls in a row has something to do with people's nerves.

I am optimistic for our playoff run, but it also doesn't bug me that people are being nervous about it either.

This is a trap thread.

I suppose that's what happens during bye weeks....we all go a little crazy.

Very true...there's just too much time to think and worry about stuff.

What's worse is that every part of the outcome is beyond our control. So you have something that we, as fans, are completely emotionally invested in and yet that "something" is also completely out of our control. Therein lies the psychosis, malaise, what have you.

We all love the ride, the wins, the rush, and we don't want to see it end until the team is kissing the Lombardi Trophy on February 3rd. Plus it's been a while, no?

I shudder just a little bit when I wonder what mischief I could have gotten into had Twitter existed 20 years ago, when I was younger and dumber :p - I was utterly convicted that if I could somehow get a pipeline going through a Pats player, any player, I could somehow "beam" my passion and team affection to them, find the right things to say to pull those guys over the finish line. I actually did manage to make a couple calls to WBZ's post game show back in the nineties, and convinced at least one player (I've mercifully forgotten who) that I was a blithering idiot :D Ah, memories...

There's a lot of folks that have that Red Sox blood in their veins still. They've forgotten that this franchise owes us zip. 3 rings...the rest is gravy. Doesn't mean we can't be passionate about the team, but IMO, the losses hurt a whole lot less after drinking thrice from the cup of champions.

Pairs need to be grown.

Done and done! :D
