Blast from the past: LA Times on Brady in 2002

I have a different view on this hyperbole.

1. I found much of it to be exaggeration. Downplaying the BB defense. Ignoring the Greatest Show on Turgf. Ignoring the improvement of TFB over the course of the year.

2. He wrote an extreme article to sell newspapers. (sound familiar?) He just happened to be right on the long term trajectory of TFB. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

the guy got lucky.
i didnt like the article much.

FWIW

Broken clock right twice a day?!?!

What a thing to be right about! -Hes only been right every day-all day long for the past twelve years and will continue to be right for the remainder of all football.

Lucky or not, this guy was the very first to laud Brady as the next great quarterback of this generation. He deserves kudos for that alone. Nobody was saying anything remotely similiar even after 01's Superbowl win.

And hyperbole or not ;) -Id trade Shaughnessy for this guy in a Boston minute. Oates has put out more interesting, relevant articles since 09 than Shaughnessy has ever shown himself capable of.

The first person who saw the light was the quarterbacks coach,
**** Rehbein. He kept bugging Belichick and Pioli to draft Brady.
Finally the management gave in and invested a 6th round compensatory
pick.

During training camp, Bob Kraft recognized Brady and said something like "You're Tom Brady our 6th round draft pick". Brady replied "Yes
and I'm the best investment you've ever make".

He was right about Brady but dead wrong about why the Patriots beat the Rams.

Agree with most of this post, but the actual quote from Brady to Kraft is this: "I’m the best decision this organization has ever made"

A bit off-topic but I miss how things were back then. Teams were actually allowed to play defense...
