Is very very annoying... I think everytime he speaks I get hives...

Not only does he sound like Donald Duck on helium, but he is an obnoxious homer. When Brady was intercepted in the AFCC he yelled "WE ARE going to the Super Bowl!" Of course, Gil Santos would say, "The Patriots are going to the Super Bowl." Just another example of the Colts' bush league way of going about things.

Listen to Ken "The Hawk" Harrelson doing a White Sox broadcast, and Fixit guaran-damn-tees that no other announcer will ever bother you.

He actually made me appreciate Michael Kay.

I know home team play by play announcers are homers, but you have to really be a Colts fan to say he is a good play by play caller..

My favorite Bob Lamey moment: In the 2004 AFC Divisional Game, right before the end of the first half, Manning goes under center, and pulls out while another Colt is in motion. Then, he walks away, doing a fake version of his chicken dance, while Saturday snaps the ball to Dominic Rhodes, for a first down...except that Manning shifted at the same time as another player and didn't reset: i.e. an Illegal Shift When the flag is thrown, Lamey screams: "That is NOT an illegal play!!! The Colts have worked ALL WEEK on this, and the refs have BLOWN IT AGAIN!!" Of course, they got the illegal shift call right... Lamey is behind only the Cincinatti and Tampa Bay guys as worst play-by-play radio announcers in the league

That guy is such a joke. Just watch all the NFL films during our super bowl runs because they use the radio announcer quotes, and you will know how annoying he is. I'm pretty sure he said that the better team didn't win after one of the playoff games.

I agree, Bob Lamey is incredibly abrasive and annoying to listen to. Pat Ryan (Titans) sounds just like him.

In listening to Gil Santos' call of AV's winning FG in SB XXXVI, someone who does not root for the Patriots might think that Santos is a big homer. For this SB one might have to cut Lamey some slack if they think he is a homer. Santos almost went out of his mind in calling the SB XXXVI win, and showed a great deal of exuberance in SB XXXVIII.

That said, I am so glad Lamey is where he is and doesn't call the Patriots all the time.

Best, and my favorite, announcer of all time.....Curt Gowdy.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Gowdy was the absolute pits when it came to football; he didn't know any of the terminology and was booooooring as hell. I always wondered if he had a drinking problem, and sometimes even wondered if he was actually at the games he called.

The two best play-by-play guys ever for football: Ray Scott and Lindsay Nelson.

Best Football announcers and teams

Pat Summeral/ Tom Brookshier/ John Madden

**** Enberg and Merlin Olson

Don Criqui and John Brodie

Charlie Jones and Len Dawson...

And last but not least

Gil Santos and Gino C

Here's my top list:

Ray Scott and Pat Summerall

Curt Gowdy and Al DeRogatis

Pat Summerall and John Madden

Frank Gifford, Howard Cosell and Don Meredith (because they made me laugh, not because of football smarts)

**** Enberg and Merlin Olsen

Al Michaels and Frank Gifford

Gil and Gino

Now, I have a challenge for you all...name the best NON-PATRIOT local broadcaster! Toughie, but it's possible.

Some good ones: recently retired Van Miller (Buffalo), the late Bill King (Oakland), retired Jim Gordon (Giants), recently fired Bill Rozinski (Carolina), recently fired Howard David (Miami), Frank Beckmann (Detroit), Joe Starkey (San Francisco), Wayne Larrivee (Green Bay), Merrill Reese (Philadelphia). I say it's between Reese and Starkey.

Some adverse ones: Bob Lamey (Indianapolis), Pat Ryan (Tennessee), Greg Papa (Oakland), any Tampa Bay announcer, Bill Hillgrove (Pittsburgh), Steve Savard (St. Louis). Lamey gets my vote here.

One more postscript to my previous post:

When I list Joe Starkey as one of the best non-Pats announcers, a little background is needed. He has done the 49ers for some time now, but he is perhaps better known as having called the 1982 Cal-Stanford game. His call of the crazy end of that game is a must-listen. He literally goes berserk, as any announcer would have done with that kind of ending. He does have a tendency to scream at big plays, but I do like him a lot. That is why I have him up there with Reese, the only other radio man with as much time in as Santos.

Marty Glickman - Jets

And I dont know the Giants one off the top of my head, I want to say Jim Davis..he also did NY Rangers games..

I distinctly remember the Vikings announcer last year always got on the Mike and Mike Show the following week for "homer call of the week". Listening to those recordings was like listening to what NEM must sound like during a game.

The Vikings call of the Cardinals TD that knocked them out of the playoffs on the last day of the season a few years back is pure comedy. You can probably dig it up somewhere.

Almost as funny was Lamey's call when the Titans won on the 60-yard field goal this year. He was so sure he missed it, he called it as such the moment it left his leg. Silence for about 5 seconds, then..."OH NO! He made it!!!" From what I've heard on Colts boards, even many Colts fans can't stand him.

I'd put the San Diego announcers up there in the homer category too. The color guy is insane. Just like the typical Charger fan.

Bill Hillgrove in Pitt is a great PxP guy, but like San Diego, the color guys he's had to work with (first Myron Cope, now Tunch Ilkin) are loopy. I like the St. Louis guys for some reason...maybe because Savard doesn't blow his mike out with every touchdown. The Denver announcers are the same way.

BTW...about the "we" thing...our very own announcers have done that too. Gil's call at the end of the SB vs Carolina was "WE'RE THE CHAMPIONS AGAIN!"
