Oh boy...this is going to cause some drama.

Dr. James Andrews told USA Today Sports that he didn't clear Robert Griffin III to return for four plays against the Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 9 when he sprained his knee as Mike Shanahan had told reporters after that game and that he's still worried about the Washington Redskins quarterback's knee, even though he has been cleared to play.

When asked why he risked Griffin's long-term health by letting the quarterback return to the game, Shanahan had said he only let Griffin return after he got the OK from Andrews, who was on the team's sideline.

"He's the one that gives me that information," Shanahan said on Dec. 10. "It's way over my head."

Griffin left after the four plays and Kirk Cousins finished the game, helping the Redskins win in overtime.

"(Shanahan) didn't even let us look at him," Andrews told USA Today Sports. "He came off the field, walked through the sidelines, circled back through the players, and took off back to the field. It wasn't our opinion. We didn't even get to touch him or talk to him. Scared the hell out of me."

Andrews told USA Today Sports that he made the call to shut Griffin down on Dec. 9.

"I'm the one that shut him down that day, finally," Andrews told USA Today. "I've been a nervous wreck letting him come back as quick as he has. He's doing a lot better this week, but he's still recovering and I'm holding my breath because of it.

"He passed all the tests and all the functional things we do, but it's been a trying moment for me, to be honest with you."

I assume this is the renowned James Andrews. I mean like who else wd sense the power to speak up. This could look bad for Shanihan and bad for the NFL.

With Arians out today and Griffin vulnerable, I think I want to change my picks to Baltimore and Seattle.

Meh. BAL and SEA are winning anyway because they are better teams. I actually liked MN in the upset before news that Ponder was ruled inactive.

This news will get squashed. Miscommunication, follow procedures, etc. They'll think of something.

I don't know if it will. Doc was pretty clear they didn't let them look at Griffin, and then Shanahan said they did, but that's not all that caught my eye. "Scared the hell out of me"....that phrase isn't something doc would say unless he's out to throw Shanahan under the bus. He made it dramatic and he's likely looking for blood. Interesting timing too.

They might be able to muddy the waters, but if Griffin gets hurt... I don't know, esp given it's Andrews speaking out. But I cd be naive.

Meh... maybe but now esp I don't see a destabilized offense able to win vs Baltimore. and I don't see a hampered Griffin winning against that potent Seattle defense.

So Shanahan throws up the white flag after eight games and then throws up the red flag after his guys get him back in the hunt. Beautiful. Shouldn't it have been reversed?

Shanahan is going to get a call. It should be instructive to see how he avoids reprimand or a fine or whatever Goodwrench will have up his sleeve.

Shanahan will be fine. This is only about player health and medical procedures. It's not like he did something really harmful to the game like having a camera out of position.

why would Goondell fine the Redskins for ignoring a league wide mandate?...after all, Goody has only been taking credit and boasting about how he's the one making the game safer for the players with the concussion protocols...no...I think he'll fine BB and the Pats for KEEPING One of their players out because of a suspected concussion without medical proof...I think 2 million and 5 first round picks should do it...cheatin' Pats

What I take from this is that Dr. Andrews turned out to be yet another expensive bust for Dan Snyder

Painful to watch him playing with this injury. Have to question Shanahan's priorities here.

Did Shanahan do anything wrong here (rule wise)? There are specific procedures in place for head injuries, but is there anything wrong with not having a player looked at for a knee injury?

Also, are there things players have to do to be medically cleared? Andrews even said that RGIII passed the medical tests, but it was still his medical opinion he probably shouldn't play.

I mean, what Shanahan did was questionable. But did he actually do anything wrong here, or just ignore the team doctors advice and lie to the media?

Whoa, Sherman really is a Richard isn't he?

I disagree completely. Why don't you take this crap it to the political forum.

Brother I'm just prepping you for what the media is going to say. It's already all over twitter

Shanahan is a POS. This is a WILD CARD GAME and he's taking that kind of risk with the future of the franchise. That was sickening

...and you advanced the notion over here, not as a warning of the media but as a racist based reality. I think that irresponsible by everyone that's pushing it.

Wow, Atlanta is only -2.
