The upcoming draft isn't a good one for rookie qb's. This might spike the demand for Mallett. I see BB signed Kafka to a futures contract. Cassel could be a bridge gap back up for vet min.

Do you think that BB will trade Mallett to some desperate team to better the rest of the roster? He may be able to get multiple picks.

For me it'd depend on how many years Brady has left. If his career outlives Mallett's rookie contract then how will we be able to resign Mallet to good money without a chance to know how he can run the team (barring Brady injury)? I'd say in that case, someone like Cassel or Hoyer is hopefully brought in for backup $$ as long as they're not looking for a starting gig and if Brady's still going strong when Mallett's contract is bout to be up we can get something for him. Then draft Brady's future replacement.

I heard on the radio just a little while ago that Chip Kelly will be taking the Browns HC job. Not only would that eliminate the Browns as a potential destination for Mallett, it could mean that the Browns try to trade Weeden before he retires.

So who would bring more in trade? I've gotta think that Mallett would be more valuable.

Who do you think would fit Chip Kelly's system best?

Matt Moore would be an interesting choice, he can run a bit and is a pretty good passer.

No. It makes no sense to trade Mallett until they can get more than they paid for him, so a 2nd at least, and right now there is simply no reason for anyone to give that. Players like Alex Smith, Matt Flynn, and Matt Moore will be available, as well as Vick, Palmer and other vets who get the ax. I just don't see the interest or demand to get an offer that Belichick would be interested in.

I guess free agency/draft will dictate that. I never said to unload him for nothing. It would only make sense if the compensation is worth it.

Ugh. Chip is alot like Beli. It is not about brining Oregon's O to the NFL. It is about putting the players he has in the best position to succeed. And building a O to fit the personal.

Tho, I think if Lombardi goes to the Browns with Chip, a Mallet trade is not out the realm.

The Mike Kafka trade might be a potential preamble to trading Mallett. It certainly gives the Pats an extra option during training camp next year, if they like Kafka and Mallett shows well and has some value. As you say, it only makes sense if the compensation is worth it.

I dont see Palmer getting the boot, they invested way too much into him to just cut him loose. They sent multiple 1st round picks to Cinci for him 1-2 years ago, so they'll stick it out with him until the end I think, or unless they happen to draft the next Russel Wilson

The Weeden pick is proving to be such a bad decision by the Browns. I almost feel a sense of sorrow for their long suffering fans. Nobody should be subjected to that sort of long term mediocrity outside of the Jets.

If the Browns do sign Kelly, it will be interesting to see how he begins to rebuild that roster.

Maybe the Browns shouldn't be focusing on who to hire.. but who not to fire. ;)

Actually the Raiders traded their 2012 #1 and their 2013 #2 pick. It also wasn't the same front office that is in charge now.

They will probably be inclined to give Terrell Pryor a shot next year.

Still, a horrible trade by Oakland.

Palmer is going to cost the raiders 13 million next year, he's gone.

It should be obvious to all that Mallett is not the answer as Brady's replacement. Terrible footwork, looks wobbly out there, throws 1 gem in every 7 balls, seems to go through his reads very slowly.

I don't care about getting more than we got for him, I'm concerned that we get a real viable choice to take over for Brady before he retires in '14 or '15).

Trade Mallett, resign Hoyer as the back-up, and find the next real thing.

Not to BB, apparently. . . .
