On COMCAST Sportsnet,Bedard was talking about this and sees Bill as not only staying longer than 2013,but he sees Bill as wanting to stay on after Brady retires to try and win another SB without Brady at QB.

If Belichick can pull that off and win another after Brady retires, then Move aside Vince Lombardi because that trophy should change names to the Belichick Trophy even if he doesn't win another with Brady.

That would be sweet!

“We don’t talk about Bill’s contract. That’s the way we like it, and it’s the way Bill likes it,” Kraft said.

Does anyone know anything about BB's mysterious contract?

I figured that we'd be hearing something leak pretty soon, not just b/c it's the time of year when many speculate about him winning another SB and retiring, but also b/c he was extended in the 2007 season and it is getting to be time again.

The only thing we really know about it is that he was extended during the second week of the 2007 FTW Spygate season.

I am unsure about the specific terms as to how long it was, but I think it was a 5-6 yr extension. Of course it may have been a 5 yr extension that also included a final year and did not take place until 2008. That would make this 2012 season the final year of his deal.

I am sure that some of the other posters have more specific info about the details of his 2007 extension, but by all accts and purposes, his deal was/is set to run out soon.

That is probably one of the reasons why it is coming up now too.

We also know that he was the highest paid coach in the NFL at 7.5 million per season, until Sean Payton reupped with the Saints last week. I believe Payton is making slightly more, approx. 8 million per.

Mr. Kraft knows what he has in BB, and being a shrewd businessman he will take very good care of Bill.. as he has brought this team to prominence, which translates into more equity for the Kraft Family..

I suspect that the Krafts will reup BB, and he will be the highest paid coach in the NFL...

As a not-so-minor point, that's when they announced his extension. To give you an idea how secretive they've been about Belichick's contracts: when they announced that extension back in 2007, people weren't sure when his current contract actually expired!

I hope he coaches for atleast another decade. I can live with Bradys retirement, but BBs will feel like the end of the world.

That frustrates the hell out of the mediots, they demand and they have right to know just like a tantruming child:mad::mad::mad:... heard it gives Borges and Felger a woody just thinking about it.

I dont think it is a MINOR point to the discussion.

If I recall correctly; at the time they ANNOUNCED the extension; the extension had been signed for almost a year.

AND they only announced it to stop the media speculation about 'he might get fired.'

I would espect something similar right now. IMO he has already signed a new contract and is run through at least 2015 and the NEP and BB don't feel the need to tell us. (fine by me BTW).

The NEPs have no motivation like CAMERA-gate (correct attribution on this board please) right now to come clean. Until someone at the NFL offices gets bribed or squeezed by the media (assuming NEP are required to let nfl know - which I am not 100% sure about); we can plan on this thread or a similar one being in existence for the next 2 years. LOL.

Glenn Ordway said yesterday that he's heard Belichick signed an extension a year or so ago and he'll be around here past Tom Brady's retirement because he loves to coach. Ordway also said he's heard Belichick has wording in his contract that guarantees he's always the highest paid coach in the NFL. Sean Payton signs for 8 mill a year and if that's higher than Bill makes right now then BB gets a raise.

Seems odd because if Belichick can keep his contract secret then so can Payton so who knows who is the highest paid? Also if they both had the clause things could get messy.

/agree, however, imo BB is worth the money whereas Sean Payton is not ...

There are procedures for that type of thing. Usually quarterly reviews that examine the other contracts and make adjustments. It would just mean that once a quarter, each guy is getting a $1 raise to put him in front of the other guy, at least until the next quarterly review. It would be silly and labor intensive, but not necessarily messy.

I also heard that BB signed an extension a year or so ago but having an provision which calls for him to always be the highest paid coach seems like something BB and Kraft would never agree to. Kraft likes to manage costs and asking to always be the highest paid coach seems out of charater.

Good news that Belichick will be around for a while. I think he'll keep going as long as his energy matches his desire to do the job, i.e., until the day when a life of 16 hour days seven days a week doesn't seem quite as attractive as a golf course.

The idea that any other HC in the NFL would be more highly compensated than Belichick is absurd. So, if the Saints have indeed taken Sean "I knew nothing" Payton's contract above BB's, I hope the Pats have either rectified that or will soon do so.

Thank goodness there's no cap on what you can pay your coaching staff.

Let me be the first to welcome Steve Belichick to the board! :rocker:
