2014 Lottery Ticket (Clowney)

If the Pats restart the stockpiling of future 1st round picks, which team gives them the best chance to have a shot at Jadeveon Clowney in 2014? My thoughts:

- Throw out division and AFC rivals, as well as teams that obviously suck and won't trade a #1

- Bears look to have a tough schedule, questionable depth, a volatile QB and a new coaching situation. The trade down (32 to 51) would be enough to warrant a 2014 #1.

- Vikings also have the same schedule, an overachieving team not wanting to slide backward and a boatload of holes that should be on fully display this weekend. Similar trade down situation as well.

- Colts don't have a 2nd round pick so they could be active traders. They are winning with smoke and mirrors and have to be fearful of taking a giant step back next year. They look to have a workable schedule though.

- Saints need to bounce back in a big way and may not have a 2nd round pick (pending if they have been naughty or nice). Their defense sucks soooooooo bad but their offense is good enough to keep them from a top 5 pick.

- Redskins are another team winning sooner than expected. I suspect the league will catch up with them after an off-season of film study. DC fans really don't like their team not meeting expectations. They don't have a 1st rounder so they will be antsy sitting on their hands for all of day 1.

My thinking is that the Vikings are the best targets to get a potential Clowney ticket for 2014. They are one Peterson injury from being absolutely terrible. Any other teams look like good trade partners for pick #32 this year?

I want Teddy Bridgewater as Brady's replacement. Been watching him since last year. This year he had wrist and ankle problems, came off the been in the second half to save a game despite having been held out for the first half because of his injuries. Last night's Sugar Bowl showed a composed confident QB that has good accuracy and a good arm/

There is another potential category -- teams that performed poorly this year and believe it's an aberration, but whose management needs to perform well or they're out the door. Thus, my candidate -- Detroit.

Jim Schwartz and Martin Mayhew survived the axe this year but are on the hot seat. Teams in this situation have been known to trade the future for today -- on the theory that if it doesn't work out, it's not their problem since they'll be canned. On top of that, Schwartz and Belichick have a history which may make it easier to be potential trading partners.

The ultimate question is whether their 2012 drop-off really was an aberration, and if an extra 1st rounder in 2013 will put them in playoff contention again? Agree that the Lions would be a fine choice (though they have the top WR in the league and the makings of an elite DL), but they already pick twice in the top 36. I'm thinking they will be inclined to sit tight and reset at the beginning of day 2 rather then force their way into the late 1st round. This draft class doesn't seem strong enough to justify the cost but they may just be stupid or desperate enough to try.

For me if you want the top 5 i think it's going to be Jax, KC (especially if they lose Bowe and Cassel they just have no offense), The cardinals would be a good target pending any QB signings or coach signings.

Good teams that could see a fall for me would be, Detroit, Indy, Washington (if something happens to RG3), Vikings and i would actually throw the Rams in there they had some close wins but do have a history of losing and that ios hard to turn around.

They would be my targets.

Jacksonville would probably be the most likely but the Lions would be nice to. Both teams probably wont do to good this season with no franchise QB for JAX

ESPN is wearing out the clip of Clowney decapitating that poor little Michigan RB.

If KC takes Texas A&M OT Jokeil #1 this year, then you can almost guarantee KC will be awful again next year.

So does KC take Clowney or Johny Football at #1, if Johny declares?

#1 and #2 could be in huge demand next season.

BB needs to call his friends in Oakland or Cleveland.
